  1. Why do gas prices always drop just before an election?
  2. Did I ever say the democratic party was without flaws? Did I ever say there was nothing positive about the Republican party? Making up other peoples arguments won't get you very far in life.
  3. So is your view of reality. What in the world are you talking about?
  4. Who the heck is Terry Tate? EDIT: hahahahha I just watched the video. Where have I seen that shtick before? Was it an SNL thing?
  5. I said I agreed with FOX & MSNBC, but I certainly don't agree with the ABC, NBC, CBS additions. If you are going to throw newspapers in, which are increasingly irrelevant, there is plenty of right-wing counterpoint including the Wall Street Journal, Washington Times and the New York Post.
  6. I'll agree somewhat with this. Not entirely though. Although I've never watched MSNBC, I know who Keith Olberman is and have seen enough youtube clips to know their offerings. My comcast basic cable doesn't carry it At least MSNBC tries to offer a little balance with Joe Scarborough and Chris Matthews. And don't tell me Alan Colmes is the FOX counterpoint. That guy is just there for Sean Hannity to beat up on. I'd love to see a "Maddow & Hannity" show, I don't think he'd get so many punches in with her
  7. I don't think Obama's Association with Ayer's amounts to anything more than what we have seen, they live in the same neighborhood, their social circles may have some points of intersection and they served on a educational board together. Big deal. I don't care. The Reverend Wright thing? Also a huge non-issue, I've listened to his sermons, including the ones in question and they are NOT racist. They may be fiery and political but no more so than than the fundie mega-pastors that do things like proclaim natural disasters are God's punishment on America's sins. As for Tony Rezko... can any explain the deal here? He helped Obama get a good deal on a house? So what? Counterpoint: Charles Keating. What should we make of the fact that McCain has a long and close relationship with a man who is a convicted felon and plotted assasinations of American citizens on American soil? Me, I don't make much of it at all. While we are posting interesting articles, here is an excellent recent one from the Wall Street Journal on what has been the GOP strategy for the past few decades. I also think that some of what it discusses applys to the rhetoric employed by Neil Boortz in the article Erik linked to. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122463199532056477.html
  8. http://www.heraldleaderphoto.com/200...th-of-sharpie/ Awesome.
  9. I actually agree with you, if what we are talking about is actual "news casts" I put sheppard smith on par with the rest in terms of actually trying to "do his job". Unfortunately what most people think of when they think "fox news" is O'Reilley, Hannity, Coulter, Von Sustren, etc... and that's not news, it's commentary and it has a DECIDED bias and its not to the left.
  10. I'm done with this thread. It's far off-topic and the best we can do seems to be petty insults, bad jokes, and general incivility. A simple-minded cartoon and dumb jokes do not pass for political discourse, nor do one-line zingers in retort. And another thing, FWIW, that UCLA study of the media was authored by two very conservative former members of conservative think tanks who recieved substantial funding from the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI), The Heritage Foundation, and the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace. But there are well thought out critiques of their findings that go beyond pointing out their own possible 'bias' http://www.brendan-nyhan.com/blog/20...oblems_wi.html And no Michelle Obama's statement "For the first time in my adult life I feel proud of my country" isn't a disqualification for being a first lady. And it's not quite the same as saying "I've been embarassed". The active emotion of pride isn't one most of us feel for anything other than our children, or local communities very often. And she was making a rhetorical point and I understood exactly what she meant. And back on topic and for my last thoughts on this, the only conservative I've ever been PROUD of decided to endorse Barack Obama yesterday when he filled out his California absentee ballot. My 78 year old dad, who served his country during Korea and has never voted for anything but a Republican in his life, voted for a Democrat this time around.
  11. That looks like a really nice little unit Erik, it's making me regret the Aiptek A-HD I bought this summer Although the Aiptek was about $40 less and has pretty decent quality.
  12. Dude, then what exactly is the point you are trying to make? Because its getting very difficult to follow you. Pretty funny paraphrase of the star wars quote though!
  13. Actually a cooperative effort or agreement of any kind among a group of individuals aimed at improving the quality of life in a 'society' is 'socialist' including the protecting of private property and national defense and also building transportation infrastructure, school systems, energy infrastructures, etc... You are just drawing the lines where you would like them to be.
  14. That video was of actual people in attendance at a Palin rally saying those actual things and clearly they were presented in context. It's not like it was special effects and cgi, or actors pretending be rally attenders spouting lines from a script. The news outlet that recorded it has no bearing on what the people themselves said or do you think they used evil arabian mind control tricks? Which is all off-topic as to whether FOX is biased or not. Which is also off-topic to Conservatives Endorsing Obama.
  15. What do you think they should say, jmoc? And how is it relevant to whether or not FOX News is biased?
  16. I vote we quit the animosity and ride this thing out. What seems to be happening more and more here is simple antagonism rather than debate, 'drive by' or otherwise. If the poster is a high schooler, what's the point in tearing him down based on that? You aren't going to convince him to present his ideas more clearly, or support his arguments by tearing him down.
  17. And remember that GanjaGolfer is almost never to be taken too seriously I thought his last post about Dances With Wolves made it abundantly clear that he was being satirical.
  18. And another! Ken Aldeman. This guys hardcore, his hard right conservative bona fides go waaaaay back. http://www.newyorker.com/online/blog...ite-colin.html Now I'm getting suspicious... what's going on here?
  19. Warren Buffet will certainly have a roll in an Obama administration... I believe Paul Volcker is also an advisor to the campaign
  20. Not me. There's enough ugliness and inhumanity in the world with out paying good $ to sit in a theatre and be an accomplice to the decline of western civilization.
  21. Obama's tax plans as far as I can tell, don't address business directly. They address personal income, or net profits - which doesn't include salaries and other expenses. He says that no one will pay more tax than they did in the 90's The $250,000 mark is for personal income or net profit. At the $250k mark you might see a whopping $1k increase, certainly not something that is going to keep you from paying a salary - and besides paying a salary would be deductible and change the formula. Here, why don't you read his plans yourself... and if you are going to deny the legitimacy of these documents please provide your sources that show otherwise. Thanks. 22. To show you I'm not a complete partisan, I give McCain a clear win on this one. He had better material and better delivery. He was actually funny. I've never seen John McCain be funny before. Obama wasn't horrible, but he doesn't seem to have a gift for comic timing.
  23. I'm not sure I can do much better than this: That's around about my 10th attempt. It would be interesting if the creator made a version that was timed. For instance, say you only have 10 seconds per challenge screen or something like that. And then it shows your (in)accuracy and your time.
  24. Erik, fyi and fwiw:
  25. Erik, your response, while forceful and authoritative (it's just your style I think, and goes with your role here) isn't really any higher level than the rest of the posts here. You make some factual sounding assertions about what works and doesn't with nothing to back it up. You make some black and white statements about the economy, but then say you aren't interested in talking about the economy. So disregarding your disinterest, let's posit that the general guiding force behind most Democratic administrations is similar of economic view and is a little more focused on trickle up than trickle down. If this doesn't work, why is it that the economic health of the nation has been better on average during democratic administrations over the past 60 years? The absolute best economic performance was during the JFK/LBJ admins. What to make of that?
