  2. Trying to settle an argument with golf buddy. In sunny and humid Florida, I wear shorts more often than not. Other guy says we should always wear slacks, I say dress comfortable and nice. Do most prefer shorts or slacks when playing a casual round?
  3. PapaBear

    I did it!

    Congrats!

    Backspin?

I definitely think you are correct here because tempo is the No. 1 issue I have with swing. I have to remind myself to slow down. Unfortunately its been raining here but I can't wait to get out and try your suggestions. Thanks!

    Backspin?

Thanks for the info Ginger. I've only been producing enough spin the get the ball to back up for abt 2 weeks. I'll take a look at dvot depth next time out. Thanks again.

    Backspin?

I think my divots are smaller than average overall.

    Backspin?

Usually my balls hits and only moves a few inches or stops. I've started contacting the ball better and last couple of times out had 6-7 aprroach shots actually back up 4-5 feet including and 8i from 157. Didn't knw I cld do that with an 8i? Most balls today backed up same distance? How do you control har far the ball backs up?
  8. Orange is my favorite flavor and black one of favorite colors! Orange Whip for Xmas, Awesome Baby!
  9. Thanks for the replies. I tght maybe it was the ball or my swing and too much spin on the ball.
  10. Looking for advice on rollout with driver. Hit my driver 250 - 285 depending ipon consistency for the day. I rarely get any roll when hitting driver. Drive the ball fairly straight, and usually end up with a plug or deep ball mark in the fairway. I play either Titleist Pro V1x or Bridgestone 330 RXS. Thoughts and advice welcome.
  11. Oh yeah, needed them and will def post a review. Thanks Lamkin and TST!
  12. Whatever the material beneath the grip is called, that's what's left. I often take my 15 yr old stepson golfing and often play a "bunny hop" or captains choice format. With grips like these and his close proximity, his life is in danger. Send me new grips, please! For his sake, and in the interest of never having to explain to his mother why her son was impaled with a golf club! Happy T-giving!
  13. To clarify...I don't want mine out there every time either. But we've tried so many other sports and nothing has caught on, so I'm glad we finally found something we can do. It's odd that it's golf since that was previously a point of contention. I play 3-4x per week, and she joins in usually once a week or once every other week. Couldn't take more than that myself! Thanks for all the comments.
  14. I usually play 3-4x per week, and want to start walking. My issue is this, I don't belong to a club, and usually book my tee times using the GolfNow hot deals which include cart fees. In my area, the "hot deals" are typically anywhere from $10-25 to play decent courses in the area if you are somewhat flexible with tee time. Was thinking of getting a push cart and walking some rounds for 2013, but hard to justify $200 for a push cart (as opposed to other golf equipment I want) when I'm averaging about $15-20 to ride. Any thoughts around walking versus riding? (I realize there are several threads around walking / push carts but see many responses from recent months). Thanks!
  15. You are lucky SloverUT. I've wanted to start walking but GolfNow is big in my area. There are "hot deals" daily which make it too easy to ride for the same price or less than walking if you are flexible with playing times which i am. i play about 3x per week and with the hot deals usually pay no more than $20 a round.
  16. Thanks for all the feedback. Decided not to join in favor of the GolfNow deals.
  17. Yes, 12 yr old stepdaughter, 15 stepson. Dont get me wrong, this is a new development but has def bn a great change. We have taken kids on slow days but getting her excited abt it has bn the key. Ive seen a few couples who.played together (rather well) and it is something to see. The cple I saw last Sat really looked like they were having fun. At least right now mine is excited, hope it lasts.
  18. Thank you so much for the reply! You are so dead on! Ball striking / swing path are my biggest hang-ups right now. Thanks for the list on launch monitor. Definitely gives me some direction.
  19. I've played in a non serious fashion all my life, but in Aug of this year decided to take the game more seriously and attempt to improve all areas. Since starting this project in Aug, I've changed my grip (10 finger to interlocking), posture, grip pressure, swing, no divot to now taking a divot, you name it - i've changed it with the help of a pro. I've lowered my scores from high 90s - 100 to low 80s (81 lowest) - mid 80s average. About 3-4 weeks ago I went for a club fitting and had abt 1.75 inches added to all of my clubs. My smash factor using an 8 iron was 1.47 - 1.49 on almost every shot. My question is this.....when I play from the white tees (just over 6000 yds) I easily score low 80s - mid 80s, but rarely come close to using all of the clubs in my bag. When playing from blues (6400-6600) I use more of my clubs and have to focus much more on course management and avoiding the dreaded 2-3 blowup holes. I generally take a 3/4 swing with every club, mainly due to my lack of flexibility, but currently hit my 8 iron about 150-155. I have another session scheduled on a launch monitor at the end of the week, any specific areas or club distances I should pay attention to since this time I understand a lot more about what the numbers represent? Also, what tees should I be playing? My club does a Sat game in which everyone who isn't single digit hcp, plays from the whites, but as stated above, playing from the whites is typically not as challenging since primarily when playing whites my issues revolve around hitting more GIR and being more consistent rather than course management. White tees = only hitting driver 2-3 times per 18. Is this fairly normal and should I stick with whites until more consistent and shooting in the 70s or move back to blues? My goal is to break 80, which i haven't done yet. Thanks TST readers!
  20. Mine didnt either. One thing that helped is I have included her in my quest to break 80. Abt once every other week she goes with me. Althgh she dsnt play she will keep track of my shots using a golfapp. She also will keep my score and she knows what I need to tey to break 80, so she will say I really need u to one putt this one so make sure u dont leave it short, and I dont ask what my score is except at the turn and after 18. Believe me weve had our share of golf related arguments but for whatever reason things seem to be clicking now so I wont complain. Good luck.
  21. Been together for 7 yrs married for 5. Ive always bn involved in sports, her never. Bought her a set of clubs and coue of lessons in Aug. Just played 9 holes with her and had a blast. Shes now played 3-4 times. I let her tee it up in the fairway as well as use a tee to make sure the clubface is square. She is hitting her 6 iron abt 80 yds (carry), and if she is having a really bad hole she just picks up instead of getting frustrated and I finish hole. Believe me, im as surprised as anyone that of all the things weve tried to do together, who knew golf would be the one we arent ripping each others heads off! P.S. She just had her first legit par on a par 3 from the red tees and we had to quit due to darkness. She is also easy on the eyes in the Natalie Gulbis outfits. Created a monster.....anyone else have similar experience....?
  22. Same thing happened to me. Was a 12 with rounds in the mid 80s. Now a 14, with 5 straight in the 90s. Very frustrating.
  23. Thanks for all the quick replies! Any recommendations for clubs in the Jax area. We live near the intercoastal but willing to consider any clubs in the area. Thanks!
  24. What club do you play at? Looks like you would recommend?
  25. This is my first post on TST, so I'll try to be brief. I've golf all my life but only become an avid golf since Aug '12. I've been considering joining a club but would appreciate some feedback. First I use GolfNow and typically play their "hot deals" 2-4 times per week. In my area this often means paying $10-20 w/ cart to play. I'm currently a 12.4 hcp, but looking to improve which means time on the range. I've been doing research about joining clubs for the benefits of using the range versus paying $10-15 for a large bucket of balls. My 15 yr old stepson and wife have recently got into golf as well. Since a lot of country clubs offer swimming and fitness as amenities, I"m wondering if it's worth the cost. I've done the math for what I'm spending playing a variety of courses and all in all it seems to be a wash. We are a middle income family, so cost is a factor. What are your thoughts around becoming a member of a club and what is a reasonable monthly due? Thanks.
