Are Tour Pros Driver Heads the Same as Ours?
twisted5ltr replied to GaryH's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Lol, just to be clear I wasn't thinking about getting one. I was just wondering if there was a difference, since he clearly only sells what the site calls the only all tour issue site or some such claim. I was wondering how a guy so over-priced stays in business unless there is really that big of a market for big time suckers or there is a real product difference. -
Are Tour Pros Driver Heads the Same as Ours?
twisted5ltr replied to GaryH's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Interesting topic just 2days ago I saw a site on eBay--actually I can't remember the name of their eBay store--but do a search under 'tour issue'-- maybe even ' tour issue club heads' On their store they list taylormade rocketballz driver head for $750 head only. Shafts for $350+. Tour issue irons sets for $1400. Tour issue putters for $2000, one for $2800 and one for $3000 I would live your input on these guys. -
Coincidentally I too have been way hung this series on this thread, and I have adjusted my swing based on these videos--even though they are clips--I have been able to glean from them a ton of info. Last Sunday I shot a dismal 102 if memory serves--which I want to forget--anyway yesterday I also shot a 44 on 9 (didn't have time for 18). And reading your response @iacas--I had been considering the evolvr thing--I'm new but I gather its video based training (swing analysis) but after watching and breaking old habits and still not 100% on the new ones I'm trying to implement I have to admit I'm scarred to cram too much in at once and totally screw myself up. Though my fear may be unwarranted maybe I just need to understand a little better what evolvr really is and what I can accomplish with it. I thought about just ponying up for the DVDs-which is a small price for the knowledge to gain. Maybe I just answered my own ?

Got a question . . . a strategy I've been pondering . . .
twisted5ltr replied to twisted5ltr's topic in Golf Talk
@Jason--I completely get what your saying. This is only a temporary plan. Not something I want to implement long term. I should add that I have been changing my swing according to the videos posted here on the 5SK and so far w/o watching the complete series, I have managed to get this swing and method and I only really got in one round of 9 holes yesterday and I went from high 90's--and even a 102 last Sunday to a 44 yesterday on 9. And I could tell it was no accident. It was very well thought out and I took my time with my shots--still managed to play 9 in about 50 minutes. Anyway. I hit my 3W a bunch and it is improving. I know situations in the course are different than the range. But when I feel comfortable enough that I can keep the ball in play I will resume and adjust club selections according. But I am loving all this advice. It has been so helpful it's like having my own personal golf instructor. And I will love to share the info with others and direct them here. I can't get enough. Thanks -
Got a question . . . a strategy I've been pondering . . .
twisted5ltr replied to twisted5ltr's topic in Golf Talk
After consideration I do see the danger in your last sentence . . . Since the long irons are some of the clubs I am having issues with getting myself into a 165-180+ yardage situation would probably get me in trouble. I do have a weird 7W I picked up last year for like $10 that has a really high loft and a short shaft that for some reason I hit real straight for about 175-180+ yards. So in making a plan for the course, I am planning on using this club off the tee on those pesky 4's which should get me a little closer while not getting me into trouble (too much anyway). Thanks regarding your last paragraph, the 100 yd 1/2 swing shot, does get a little loft or pitch up in the air to it--though not alot, about half as high as my normal shots--that being said I know it will have more roll out than say my PW, but I have been having issues at just about that range with my wedges, (I tend to launch it over the green with my PW by about 10-20 yds. So Im a little shy with that now. and this may not be the right answer to my problem exactly, but at this point I feel safer rolling it up or leaving myself a long putt vs yet another 20-30 yd chip, especially at my local course there are about five or six holes that the side of the green drops off about 15 feet into a creek . . . . Stick a fork in me I'm done . . . with that crap . . . lol I gotta lot of work ahead I know but damn if it isnt fun . . . -
First a little background before the question . . . . I am fortune enough to have 5 acres of land. . . . 3 of which is exposed, that being said I have an strip on one side of the house thats about 100 yards. The reason I bring that up is because while working on my swing a while back I was using my 7 iron taking half swings and found I was able to pitch it about the full hundred yrds (before I hit my shed . . . which happens about 10 times per 100 balls) . . . anyway I found this a very comfortable swing. I have been working on trying to eliminate my slice (really bad slice). Through this site and a bunch of reading wacthing videos for the most part I have say 75% kept in under control I have begun using my driver again. But now I notice I sometimes go the other way now. I know (or my gut tells me that) this may go away with time and more practice using my new swing. I still am having issues off the tee box and my second shot seems to get me in trouble. Ok so now to the grit of my question or strategy thoughts . . . . It seems like my round is just one big math problem. Maybe I can use my backyard technique in that I could (say playing on the local 6300 tees--par 5 / 450 yds) use my 5 iron with a comfortable 1/2 swing and knock it 140-155 yds. lets just say 150 for simple math. so on my (ex.) 450 I can do this (3x's) to get on the GIR par 5 (hopefully) or I should be close at this point and a simple chip and maybe save par or bogey . . . . and get myself into the 80's (currently in the mid to high 90's) . . . . that is until and (while) I'm still working on my driver/ FW/ long irons/ full swing on the range? Does any of that make sense, or was it a hodge podge of thoughts? I apolgize in advance if it was confusing . . or am I nuts or over-thinking myself into another bad habit or avoiding the issue . . . . This may have been addressed elsewhere if so I am not against being redirected to that posting . . . thanks guys . . .

Do golf shoes really need spikes?
twisted5ltr replied to goodputt's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I don't knock guys who don't wear them, my father in law had to stop cause of physical issues and he got he nubbies, he likes them. But for me and my game. There is no way I'm taking a chance on an easy screw up like that. I used to drag race back in the day. And when I first started I would do my burnout and then I saw other guys who would like stomp the throttle right before they pulled up to the line to see if their burnout was gonna hold. I thought this was a good idea. So I started doing it. My dad says to me first once your out of the burnout box it doesn't matter you can't go back in. But also if you break a part your done, and you didn't even start the race yet. Why risk it. If your gonna break do it on the starting line. I think of this the same way. I need to take care to make sure the easy stuff is nailed down so i can focus on the stuff i havent nsiled down yet. it would be stupid of me to put one out of bounds cause my foot slipped. And it would be pure stupidity to put myself into a situation that it could happen not once but more than once in the same round. I'm trying to lower my handicap not raise it. But that's for me and MY game . . . .another thing I learned drag racing, focus on myself. The guy in the lane next to me could catch on fire but I won't know it cause I'm worried about me. -
As I mentioned in another thread, I am a drummer since I'm 8 yrs old--now 38--and everytime I played in front of more than about 10 people I was nervous more specifically like 200+. One thing I remembered that really helped me was that as what I would consider a (low handicap drummer say close to scratch) there were still some things taht I knew I needed work on. but other things I knew I could do blindfolded, one hand tied behind my back, I thought just do those things and nail it. If you dont venture out and try something your not ready to do with confidence don't and you (most likely) wont screw it up. Many shows came and went after that and went off without a hitch, i realize golf tournaments are physically a different animal, but my focus here was just on the ecxitement aspect or anxiety of performing into front of people you feel like are staring at you thinking that they know you are about to screw up--even tho theyre not--Hopefully when I am ready to play tournaments I will be able to use this advice on myself once again . . . I hope it helps someone else . ..

Hitting 200 balls a day a bad thing?
twisted5ltr replied to Travis Robinson's topic in Fitness and Exercise
As a sort of update from my last post . . . . and as a follow up to 'wadesworld' . . . . I set up the Optishot in the garage, with a 7 x 9 (indoor/outdoor) net. right off the bat I noticed the ball is above my feet, so I built a 3 x 7 (rectangle w/ notch cutout for optushot to fit in nicely) platform to stand on while practicing. A couple 1/2" sheets of OSB plywood, and a old piece of masonite laying around and green indoor/outdoor carpet to match the Optishot thing . . . and I was off and running. I used the thing for a couple hours, playing a driving range session and 2 rounds of golf. I'm 38, as mentioned last time, but I am about as physical as a 20-25 yr old so I don't usually have health problems as far as struggles with physical type labor. But for the first time in 38 yrs I had very slight knee soarness I'll call it . . . as well as while reaching for a glass in our sink my left elbow had a slight twinge of pain to it in flexing . . . neither was enough to alarm me, or to take anything for it, as in pain pills. But the very fact that it happened, my mind immediately returned to this forum conversation. So right away I quit using the Optishot, and took my net outside, and set it up in the yard. the next two days I practiced at least as long as the days prior (w/ optishot in garage) and I felt no such pains or beginnings of any aches. I'm not a doctor so I am not gonna say with any degree of certainty that that harder floor for standing on and also hitting, (because any missed shot hit the plywood flooring) is in fact the culprit but as a guy who has never felt those pains in those parts I am taking no chances in developing those problems any sooner than I my get them if I do in the future. the benefits of this move have been nothing short of awesome for my game. For one my net stays put much better outside anchored to the ground--I couldnt use real balls indoors cause the net would collapse or bend. 2. by just hitting into the net and hitting and then not hitting the target I began to understand that hitting the target meant I was doing something right. Over the course of this last week, with some reading online (here) and practiceing into the net--I dont want to say eliminated but--I have solved my horrible slice problem. I havent used my driver in over 3 mos because I might as well get on the tee box make a 90* right turn and throw my ball into the woods thats how bad my slice was. Now I have sliced about 3 balls last round yesterday, but I quickly and instantly knew what my mistake was and from that point forward i hit every fairway the rest of the round. How freaking gratifying that is!!!!!!!! As for the optishot--I gotta call BS on that. im not too sure about the technical accuracy of the laser and all that, but lets just say after two days of optishotting and I thought i was doing better, it wasnt until hitting REAL balls into a net did i actually eliminate my slice. Someone said it awhile back on this thread, but there is something about hitting into a net that is seriously underestimated. I am a beleiver . . . and to those guys on this thread alone--about the net, and the advice about hitting health, thank you. I seriously beleive I just saved a ton of money I was about to spend on a pro for lesson to rid my slice . . . thanks again money saved, slice gone baby. Now its just a matter of getting consistent!!! God I love this game! -
Hitting 200 balls a day a bad thing?
twisted5ltr replied to Travis Robinson's topic in Fitness and Exercise
Hey Guys, I'm gonna resurect this issue again for a moment if you dont mind .. . .I just picked up the sport last fall (2011)--and I pull experience from my time drumming. Its really weird but similarities in the discipline I've been finding are very much the same. One of the biggest things as a young drummer ( I began at 8yrs old still play on occasion--Im 38 so 30 yrs) or even as a very seasoned drummer, we have to learn to do one thing at a time. For example, I may need to play a beat 1,2,3,4 and keep repeating with my right hand, and then on 2 & 4 with my left hand, and then add my right foot on 1 & 3. That may sound hard to a beginner--and it really is--but i had to learn to do the first part so much and so consistent that I could lock it away in my mind and just set it on auto-pilot so to speak. Keep it at a certain tempo then I could just begin to add the new element to the mix. Pretty soon I can do them with my eyes closed and carrying on a conversation, and I like to joke while eating a tuna fish sandwich. . . lol. But I find myself doing this very thing with my swing. I learn or read or see a new element to improve my swing. and the swing as a whole may be inacurate, but the new element has imporved that section of my swing that much more. and then I lock it in. I repeat this one tiny step hundreds-(or more if necessary)--of times until I can feel comfortable to imporve a new element. Pretty soon I find my swing improving as a whole. I havent updated my index on my profile but I am solidly in the 90-92 range now vs. 100-107 range. Perfect practice is important, sometimes it takes doing it wrong to find out how to do it correctly. Then it is a matter of practicing that specific element to nail it down. As someone who currently has easily over 18 handicap, though I would say if drumming had a handicap I would easily be a scratch drummer, so i think the method may have features that can lead to success, but it takes serious discipline to your craft to become great at it--scratch level whatever your craft--and not quick to give up. Though married and with kids and a job I am making it a goal of mine to practice everyday whether on the course or at home. I will exercise that same routine in golf and become good if I have to get up at 4:30 to get the dogs out earlier and get in the garage and hit the net for an hour or two before heading to work or the course . . . . . make a plan, and some short term goals to acheive and shut up and do it . . .(that last bit was more for me than anyone here) thanks for a great site guys, and good practicing to everyones game. I love these sites to share info and where we can all grow and learn together truly an amazing thing. Thanks again. Geoff -
So my goal is to: --first practice (not play) everyday, get up everyday at 5am go to the garage and hit balls into the optishot or the net until 7--8 oclock, got to the course or work depending on day. --drop 25 lbs (body wieght obvioulsy), using treadmill and hour or more a day --maybe a couple lessons with a pro to straighten out my driver--horrible slice. --drop score to mid to low 70's by December 2013 --Tournament play after January 2014?? hopefully thats it, sounds easy, or easy to say but itll be a ton of work, but fun as hell and truly rewarding

Hey Guys, just wanted to pop in and introduce myself, new to the threads. anyway this is an interesting subject to me because I have been debating this very issue in my mind recently. I am reletively new to golf, (year or so) but i am able to play about 3-5 times a wk, and I am dedicated to lowering my score. That being said. I was considering playing a new course because it is longer, and my thinking was if i am ever going to be able to compete on any level I gotta be able to play long. Then i think well i really do get to use all the clubs in my bag would it really matter while im still hacking--no pun intended--my score down. I am now leaning towards if and when i get down to like the high 70's low 80's (consistently that is), i'll move it back and work on my long game to be more complete. . . . . any thoughts? am i on the right track? thanks in advance for any advice--considering im not a threat to anyone at this point except mayeb myself . . .lol
