    U.S. Open Quiz

Nice work Three Putt. I'd say anything above 10 out of 20 is good.

    U.S. Open Quiz

Hey Thrash13, 17 out of 20 is excellent. I know for sure I wouldn't have got that close. There are quite a few blind, uphill, dog-legs, over water, type questions. And MunkeyGolfer, as I mentioned above, I'm pretty sure I'd have been around whatever you scored. I'm glad you found it to be fun. I did try to make it more that just pure questions.

    U.S. Open Quiz

I've just finished putting together a 20 question quiz on the U.S. Open. I tried to make it challenging but not impossible. I'd be really pleased if whoever wants would give it a try and let me know what they think. It can be found here: http://www.opsgolf.com/GolfBlog/category/quizzes/ PS - Formatting is still a little garish but I'll work on that.
  4. That sounds a lot like the "Square Driver" rule that I use: I get to kick the ball out the rough about 20 yards further down the fairway based on the assumption that, had I used one of these new drivers, I would never have veered from the straight and narrow.
  5. I was looking for something like that myself a few months ago. Didn't have much success but the closest I got to the pin was with add-on modules for the Joomla CMS. Here's one here: http://www.joomla.org/content/view/2921/37/ I know there is at least one other for Joomla (maybe a derivative of the the one above). They claim to be flexible enough for multiple sports. Maybe golf would be too much of a stretch. Good luck and please let me know how the search goes. Cheers David
  6. I just posted in the "do you miss metal spikes" thread and got to thinking about how much I liked walking from the clubhouse to the first tee with the sound on metal spikes ringing off the tarmac/ concrete pathway. Then, since I'm working and my mind has already wandered to the golf course, I was pondering my favo[u]rite walks in golf. Here's a list of some of mine - not in any particular order: Best 1. Above mentioned walk to the first tee. 2. Walking onto the green without putter in hand to retrieve ball having holed out from off the green. 3. From buddies ball onward to your own having finally out driven him after years of trying. 4. Up the 18th fairway on the Old Course at St. Andrews - if you're lucky enough to get the chance. 5. To lunch when midway through a 36 hole day - if your fit enough for 36 and haven't reeked the place out on your first 18. 6. To a blind green to view your ball in close proximity to flag - especially when buddy told you he thought it was "a nice shot but a bit long." Worst: 1. Across adjoining fairway to locate hideously sh@^ked shot. 2. Back to tee (alone) to play "three off the tee" 3. To next tee with 3+ groups already waiting to play. Anyone else?
  7. I miss the sound of metal on concrete or tarmac. It's the sound of the walk from the clubhouse to the 1st tee - one of the finest walks you can take!
  8. I'd distinguish between "clone" and "knock-off" clubs. I know the terms are sometimes used interchangeably but to me "knock-off" is counterfeit, attempting to deceive and illegal while "clone" is a copy. I think I see the original poster's point about there being something sad about seeing a person trying to impress without having the real goods. I have painful adolescent memories of my mother forcing me to wear supermarket brand blue jeans when all the cool kids had Levi 501s ... but I digress. Cloning happens in most industries - look at the PC market - everyone cloned IBM and the SUV market; it's hard to tell your BMW from your Mazda and so on. I believe there are some really high quality clone clubs that allow out there as well loads of really poor ones. And when it comes to embarrassment on the golf course, I'd say there's not much that beats the hyper-equiped golfer that moves the turf further than the ball.
  9. I'll sidestep that slightly by saying Jack is the greatest but Tiger is very much on course to surpass him. Tiger holding four majors (arguably (very) the grand slam) is, to me, the most impressive accomplishment. All the grand slam/ not grand slam debate was interesting because no one had bothered to think through what the modern grand slam was because no one thought anyone would ever get even the slightest sniff at it.
  10. A bit of this and a bit of that ... I mainly do online training - create web sites that help people learn. My main effort is a Math site that helps parents help their children (K-8).
