  1. Had my wife fill out the survey... she received hers today. A sweet white one. Two free Senseo coffee makers! Thanks Mav... By the way, these bad boys are going for over sixty bucks on amazon.
  2. I like "Playing Partners." I figure, that's what we call 'em anyway. And I'm very much in favor of this idea. I could see it being very useful. People could post golf trip plans, hook up with other members, maybe form informal "Sand Trap" leagues. I think it'd go a long way towards making this site an even bigger deal than it already is...
  3. I was kinda hoping ol' Keg Legs would make a splash.
  4. Speaking of par 3's, the "wave the group up" rule is probably the least-followed rule on the golf course. Example: Your group tees off on a par 3. When you get up to the green, you mark your balls and let the group behind you at the tee box tee off. Then while they're coming up, you finish out the hole. I don't think I've ever done this, or even seen it in practice.
  5. I am 100% for choosing the right shaft that fits your swing, and the benefits of launch monitor fittings have done nothing but help golfers everywhere. I also understand that you have to pay for technology as well. But the new Grafalloy Axis shaft is going for $275. That's one shaft, for $275. Is anyone here a big (or rich) enough gearhead to actually spring for a $275 shaft that you'll use 6-12 times per round? Just wondering...
  6. Yeah, I'll get right on that.
  7. When I become rich enough to own a corporation and sponsor a tournament, I promise not to invite her. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure none of us have any say in the matter. I suppose we can just choose to boycott tournaments that invite her to play. Wouldn't that be a course of action we could all take? If she plays, we don't watch. Because really, that's all we can do about it. Outside of that, we're just a bunch of screaming men typing furiously in ALL CAPS yelling on internet message boards. Just thinking about her makes you livid, doesn't it... Considering that she finished in the Top 5 in six out of seven ladies' tournaments this year, you would be wrong.
  8. Hey Mav, Just got mine today! I got a blue one. I've already got one on my desk at work, so I suppose Senseo just took care of somebody's Christmas present this year. By the way... Senseo on the desktop at work... it's a lifesaver. I don't really use it at home much (I'm a grind and brew person), but it's definitely better than joining the coffee club in our nasty office kitchen.
  9. My personal preference is for the "hybrid" style bags. They're essentially golf bags with reinforced sides and a hard-shell top that latches on to protect your heads.
  10. Sorry for the delayed response, I'm sure you've already played it. Interested in what you thought. I live five minutes from Cannon Ridge, and I personally love the course, save for one par five that gets on my nerves. Number 12's fairway slopes severely right to left if you hit it over the flat landing area off the tee. But landing it in that area leaves you too far back, in my opinion. Conversely, I think that number 3 is my favorite par 5 in the area... a huge landing area that doglegs right... it's a slicer's paradise. I've birdied it two of the last three times I've played it. Since this is off-topic, send me a PM and let me know what you thought.
  11. I'm a mixed bag guy as well. The only constants are Titleist irons and Callaway fairway woods. Driver, wedges, and putter have been in flux for years.
  12. Cody, I pretty much agree with all of your points. The young guns on the PGA tour are sadly underexposed, and I believe that the PGA is doing a piss-poor job of marketing these guys. I'd like to see more of them as well. But, to use the most overused cliche of the past couple of years, it is what it is . Michelle Wie is in the tournament, and the casual sports fan wants to see how she is doing. Just take solace in knowing that although it seems like she's there every week, she's really only playing in a handful of tournaments. Also, as she continues to miss cut after cut, the invitations will come in less and less frequently. This is short-attention-span America, after all... when the general public grows tired of the chase, interest will wane, and this'll be a non-issue.
  13. The LPGA tournaments she's played this year were all on exemptions, I believe. The tournaments you see her playing in, she's been invited attend. As a non-LPGA member, that's the only way she'd be allowed to enter. Pretty much all of the tournaments invite her -- she can only accept six on the LPGA tour. The British and US Opens don't count toward that total. Unfortunately, the first two days, the pairings stay the same. It's not until Saturday (after the cut) that they reorganize the groups.
  14. I hadn't thought of it that way. You know something? Your original ideas and comments have cast the whole Michelle Wie thing in a whole new light for me. It's cool because this topic hasn't been covered ad naseum yet in dozens of other threads, and it's refreshing to hear new arguments. It's really too bad that Michelle Wie insisted on forcing her way into this tournament, uninvited by Joe Hardy, the owner of 84 Lumber. Because it's really ruining the grand tradition of the 84 Lumber Classic, with its long, storied history and huge televsion ratings and attendance every year. It's very similar to the Omega Masters on the European Tour. Watching that is an annual tradition for me. All she did was distract me from watching great European household names like... the guy who won. The legendary Bradley Dredge. From Wales. Good thing I didn't have to google that, because I paid such close attention to that tournament after Ms. Party Crasher missed the cut. I hope others continue to post revalations like this. I never tire of reading them.
  15. He's gonna have to "golf his ball" to have a chance at six straight... UPDATE: Tiger got it down to one-down, but now it's back to three down with eleven to play. Not looking good...
  16. Got anything in Stafford?
  17. I just realized that I never posted to this thread. I'm a Configuration Manager for a defense company in the DC Metro Area. There are processes and procedures that need to be followed, people. (No one ever likes the CM guy.) And I work in Falls Church, but live in Fredericksburg. Anyone who lives in this area will know how miserable I am every morning and afternoon.
  18. I barely wanted to post a reply to this thread, but did, and was hoping that would put an end to it. Apparently, it didn't work.
  19. When it all comes down to it, I don't know if I could own a club called the "Rapture." Sounds like a romance novel. I'd have to go find a Fabio headcover.
  20. Then unfortunately, it definitely looks like you made the right move by bailing out of that mess. It sucks because it's your alma mater, but maybe after a regime change you can give it another go...
  21. Is your ball flight usually pretty high, with a little fade? In all actuality, your swing looks a lot like mine, but I stop a little short of parallel. My elbow would break down at the top like yours if I took it that far back. I keep it (my left elbow) a little straighter -- it helps me control the club a little better, plus I feel like I generate more clubhead speed because I'm able to maintain some tension before I release down the line. In fact, looking at that video a little closer, that little shimmy at the top looks like it's caused (at least in part) by the elbow breaking down at the top of your backswing. Maybe work on shortening it a little, see what kind of results that yields you...
  22. Yep, it's the "Edit Signature" in the User CP...
  23. It's possible to spend money on the resources available to help develop a good swing. But the swing itself can only come from dedication and proper practice. Of all the items you listed, only lessons can help your swing. Everything else is superfluous. Just because you can buy tap shoes doesn't make you Fred Astaire.
  24. Welcome to the forum, fellow DC Metro Area-ite.
  25. That sucks, dude. Punks. Any consolation, half those kids will probably regret not learning the game the right way when they grow up. I look back to when I was a teenager and gave up the game because I was a snotty-nosed punk. Later on, I wished I'd had the foresight to know that there were life lessons to be learned in golf. Plus, I wouldn't have had to relearn the game from scratch when I was 26...
