  1. I see lots of folks drop in, see that not many people are there, and leave. You've got to stay for anyone to be there! Shoot me a PM if you have any questions about IRC.
  2. Awesome achievement, congrats!
  3. Just wanted to bump this up.... If we could get this going it would be a great supplement to the forums. :2
  4. For those of you using the Callaway Warbird Hot bag, what in the world is a magnetic ball pocket?
  5. I'm new to the game, but I've been told that as a beginner, I should buy a driver with a higher degree of loft. 13º maybe. Just an idea
  6. I'm somewhat of a cigar nut, and I usually take an assortment. I have a 500ct humidor and a 28 bottle vinotemp wine fridge converted into a humidor. Favorites lately: Anything by Don Pepin Garcia, especially the Black Label and the Cigars International Legends Series Yellow Label A good yet cheap cigar for the golf course or yard is the Famous Smoke Nicaraguan 3000. If you are interested in cigars, check out Club Stogie , a great resource!
  7. I was wondering the same thing...
  8. One thing I'd like to point out - Please use the same nickname in IRC as you do here at The Sand Trap. Makes it easier to keep up with things.
  9. Thanks a bunch. I'll read up on golf etiquette :) Thanks for the warm welcome - I hope to be able to help people some day just like I'm getting help here now. Great place.
  10. Awesome replies, thanks so much!
  11. I've really got that need to golf itch, but being so new to the game I want to learn how to play properly. Having only played 7 rounds in my life, I'm hoping that I can develop good habits from the get-go. I haven't been able to afford my local country club in the past, but I think they have recently lowered the membership costs. I live in a small rural community and highly doubt there are any golf instructors around but I'll have to check. Can anyone suggest a good book or dvd that might help get me started? I have a million questions and have been reading a lot but most information I find tends to lean towards more experienced golfers.
  12. I attended UofA from 96-01. After 5 years I ended up with a Bachelors in computer science and a music minor. :)
  13. That "cheap" model looks good to me. I like the stand feature. The "cadillac" model is just too much...a built in cooler lol
  14. An Arkansas Razorback bag? Nice, I'll have to check into that
  15. An Arkansas Razorbacks golf bag...nice I'll have to look into that :tu
  16. Like I said, I'm new to golf but I can already tell that hitting a 4 iron is hard. I can understand getting satisfaction from hitting a good shot with an iron as opposed to a hybrid; however, at this point in my game I'd just be happy with a good shot.
  17. I was reading some tips on golfdigest.com and saw this: HANK SAYS "Unless you drive the ball at least 275 yards, your long irons should be hybrids. They're much easier to get in the air for almost all golfers." I certainly don't drive 275...I'm completely new to golf. What does he mean by hybrids replacing long irons? Do you agree?
  18. The clubs are "Dynamic" by Wilson. They have been regripped with black and green grips that say "Griprite Swingrite".
  19. Thanks! I live on Crowley's ridge, which indeed is beautiful.
  20. No. She would still be my cousin though
  21. My buddy that has been playing for 2 years invited me to a 2 man scramble last weekend. On one shot he used a PW and over shot the green. I used a 9 iron and put it 6 feet from the pin. It was a nice and lucky shot :) I also had some amazing putts. That 9 iron shot and the few awesome putts were enough to make me want more. I like hitting a PW in my back yard and am getting better at it, but I just don't want to develop bad habits. I stand on one side of the yard and try to land it in a flower bed on the other side that is circular and about 5 feet across. The distance is very short - 15 yards or so I'd guess. The beauty of it is I have my 4-year old retrieve the balls. He gets every one of them but sometimes has to stop to rest and won't bring me the ball. I accidentally hit him right in the face today, but it didn't break a tooth. Glad I didn't have to take him to the doctor...from now on I tell him to take off before I swing. By the way, he is a Miniature Schnauzer
  22. The Wilsons are in terrible shape - scratches and gouges and just generally look bad. No Wilson woods but there are a couple in there. I'll have to look at them closer to get a brand. My wife has a set her dad gave her and the woods are literally made of wood :)
  23. I'm 45 Minutes west of Memphis. Thanks for the welcome :)
  24. Hello - new to the forum and golf :) I have a set of 15+ year old Wilson clubs and a bag that is horrendously ugly. My first question is: should I buy a beginner set or buy a used decent set? I was looking at Callaway X-14 or X16 or Nike Slingshot OSS. If I decide to give up golf or get better clubs in the future, the used decent set will have more resale value. I've played with my buddy's X-14's and like them, but I don't have much to compare them to... I'd say my swing speed is a little slow. I'm 5'7" and don't have a lot of upper body strength. Looking to spend whatever the wife will let me, but I imagine it will be $300 or so for irons. She wants me to play with the old clubs for a while to see if I'm even going to keep playing, and if I like it and stick with it we can look into some nicer clubs. She is a wise woman, but I don't know how long I can put up with these things Any advice or suggestions are welcome and highly appreciated!
