Ive been taking in so much material that ive hit a mental lock. i played 9 yesterday and lost my shot, i literally forgot how i swung. i never recovered it yesterday. I kept thinking about the tons of advice ive been given and was getting from my playing partner, all the swings and videos ive studied kept flashing in my head and to top it all off, all of the left/right opinions of the swing ive been reading were scrolling in my mind like a teleprompter - i was completely confused. anyone else ever have these hiccups? im going to the range sunday to reconstruct - fun fun. perhaps reinvent.

i went to middle school with Matt in fl and knew him somewhat. we had a couple of classes together. i remember even in the 7th grade he talked about becoming a famous golfer and i a baseball player - kudos to him. i moved away (nc) and when i came back in the 9th grade he went to a different high school so i never kept up with the kid. funny looking back now, wish i would of asked for golfing tips when we were12

no i didnt have one... fair enough i suppose
-
also, when i i said to stop, i meant to say hold it there in position too. you could then release it and let gravity drop the club through the swing after a slight hip slide forward as you were nudging a door close with your hip and then repeat

i saw your swing and i personally dont have a problem with the speed coming down, but maybe you can try to slow down on your back swing. its going so fast its bringing your head back with it, which may be a problem in why you are missing it all together sometimes. this may be leading to an inconsistent plane and uncontrolled attack angle but that's just my humble and unprofessional observation and opinion. maybe you could practice doing backswings while stopping at the top of the swing. this may cause you to slow down if you cant stop under control or if your losing your angle. dont mind the avatar, i didnt add it

someone added my avatar for me. it's kind of funny. yet, i feel my accounts been improperly fondled - i feel so dirty and ashamed. did admin do this

and to be fair about the program im in, we do work - i just dont retain any of it. we dont have exams, so i dont study what ive learned. their vocational programs here are set up differently. you just have to be proficient on the current topic and pass your assessments. there is a lot of papers on theory you have to write too. so before installing the ubuntu server we had to write theory papers. anyway

I go to an immigration college in sydney, australia studying IT. I call it an immigration college because that's where all us immigrants from other countries go to buy time with student visas. It's a two year course and i have roughly a semester and a half left of year one and i will earn a certification VI in IT - I can honestly say I havent learned a thing. My teacher is from Napal and I cant understand him, he rarely lectures about anything and all we do is check our moodle profiles for assignments. The plus is this, its two days a week in class and 5 hours online. The online portion is just an assignment and if it takes you 5 minutes - youre done. Um, all i did this week was install ubuntu, a gui and add a web app to it. I doubt I go back and earn my diploma of IT next year. the plan is to get a permanent visa through a partner visa. My partner and the mother of my child is Australian, my son is a dual citizen - an aussie since he was born here and his mother is aussie and american, since im american. I would say to you that all jobs require work.

Im going to start exercising again and wonder what kind of exercises i can do that are more golf specific/related? ive never exercised specifically just for golf. However, since im getting more into during this chapter of my life, i taught id look for golf related exercises/lifts. Right now im completely out of shape, my only exercise is golf. Im 5'11 260, most people dont believe im 260 because of my wide shoulders and chest, they think maybe 210-220. I just gained 25 of those during my partners pregnancy. Im not sure what a good golf weight would be for me to play at. A little physical history: i grew up playing football, basketball, baseball, boxing, weightlifting, biking. Out of those my main sport was 15 years of baseball. I played baseball at 195-200, i boxed at 169-185, football at 210-215. I havent been on a bike or lifted , hell i havent done any cardio/lifting in 3 1/2 years. When i was i was riding i'd do 10-20 miles a day 7 days a week and circuit training with weights 3x a week - 195 - 200 pounds was a good weight for this. i was focused on everyday strength in lifting, not being ripped or bulking - id generally do 8 reps and 3 sets on all lifts except for the bench; which was heavier weight/lower reps (except for the 8 rep warm up). Now im planning on doing light cardio (walking/power walking) for awhile, at least the next 4-5 months until i drop some weight. I feel i need to be back at or around 220 before i start pounding my knees and ankles with heavier cardio such as jogging/running. My target weight loss goal is 2-3 pounds a week. I no longer have a bike and i wont be getting one due to a new child and financial obligations. Nor do i have a gym membership., any lifting will have to be with house hold items, such as water buckets and weighted grocery bags. What kind of lifts/exercises can i do to help my golf game? Ill also be doing push ups/sit ups/ standing squats/lunges and a lot of stretching. thanks for your help in advance

One of my problems when it comes to consistency among other things is my stance width. I have wide broad shoulders and tend to stand wider than most my size. i played baseball for 15 years and i feel more stable with a wider stance. my golf stance isnt as wide as a baseball stance for sure. However, im aware how wide i get and try to change up my stance width a lot. i cant get too narrow with my woods or i dont feel stable at all. Im not sure if i should worry more on the so called stance width ppl say to use or if i should just go with a stable stance? my 6-9 irons, and wedge stances are fairly close but not as close as others. say from your sw, pw, 9, 8, etc how far in inches do you move? i tend to stand the same with for all my woods, even my rescue club, should i shorten these stances? i wonder if width plays in missing left and right of target? not hooks and slices just missing left and right.

this is basically what ive read too. like a minimal bend of a 3-5 degree bend is acceptable - maybe it was 1-3 i forget however, i keep hearing over and over from ppl to keep it completely straight; theyve read it or some instructor taught them this. perhaps its a translation error in what most ppl think as straight. i mean its confusing when you look at ernie els robot shaft for a left arm - talk about straight. watching hogan though his bend is apparent when he starts his downswing, at least in my eyes it is.
-
I was about to comment on some site link dropping poster's post about improving your swing, but it was deleted. Anyway, he was stating and stressing a "perfectly straight" left arm on the back swing, like most ppl do. I've seen many videos of top players with what seems like a locked arm and others with bends. I'm starting to wonder if it matters not either way. I have a slight bend in my left arm. my right arm is squared off, elbow is down and arm basically in.. Im beginning to wonder about that too but let's talk about the left arm for those of you with an opinion on it. what is the theory/function/ur thoughts behind it and ur experience with hitting locked as opposed to not?

New Beginner "complete" set
APrince replied to InTheSand247's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
why not buy seperate sets (woods/irons) or different pieces all together. idk what i'd do if i could spend 450. i may buy a nice new driver - you never know what is on sale. plus a standard set might not have a length/shaft you'd prefer. then id probably look for used irons and frequent goodwill and second hand shops looking for used bags. plus the proshop usually has cheap new off brand lob wedges and the such. i guess it would depend on your preference though, because i would love a nice new driver. i just bought a cheap used set (driver,3,5) of some unknown brand for 50 bucks thatll be here this week. but hey im desperate, im tired of hitting an offset driver. if youre in the states i'd check out craigslist too. there isnt craigslist in oz. :(, they have gumtree but ehhhhh. -
Most payers have the right elbow down and tucked in. Plus, i keep hearing thats how it needs to be, but how did/does daily get away with it - elbow near 45 degrees and his arm out like a chicken? heck his left arm is bent like crazy too - while he's coiling like a snake? can anybody here analize his swing and how he gets away with it?

How do you go from starting to playing on a course?
APrince replied to golfingnooob's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
if you are feeling intimidated, just stay on the range, but at some point you just have to go play on the course. You could always play the range as if youre playing par 4's and long par 5's in a sense; calculating the distances of what the hole would be, what your next shot would be and which club to follow with. start with a driver, then go to a fairway wood (hopefully youre hitting off the grass and not carpet) then irons, wedges etc. I know its not the same and you'll always have a decent lie, but it would help you get use to transitioning from one club to another working on different setups. i use to pretend there was over hangs and dog legs etc back in the day. -
hey thanks for the videos. I did catch the first one before they removed it. yeah im looking for a short soft vertical shot, so i may have to try the front leg pivit next sunday youre speaking of if i go to the range, idk i may play a round instead. im still wondering what kind of shot i was hitting then - i was almost setting up like a pitch but came down with an accelerated direct attack swing and a high follow through
-
what shot was I hitting then? a modified pitch, a lob? I had the face compelety open and flat from a chipping stance. the first few were from five feet and I'd pop it maybe 6 foot high and it would pop drop and stop at five feet or be short of the green after only going three feet. the longer shots were going 8-12 high and dropping. I had issues with power though. to my amazement, I only launched a couple towards the club house on tight grass I figured out having your weight forward drastically helped and on the fluffy grass middle to back for me worked

i tried to add a flop shot around the greens as someone here suggested today and i have a couple of questions for those of you who are proficient at it. ive seen videos with open stances and normal ones? which is better served? does it depend on the distance you are hitting or is it just different for a flop lob? also, i was only taking 1/2 back swings to control my power. i was hitting 12-20 foot flops for about an hour up a 4 foot incline and a full swing was taking them too far and yet the half swing would take the ball within inches of the hole sometimes and 1-2 foot short of the green on others. the pin placement was only two foot from the fringe . i see others take full back swings like mickleson for example and it goes 5 foot or so. i was using a sw and not a 60 though any tips on flops around the green?

What do you know about these clubs?
APrince replied to APrince's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
