  1. I think tonight is the last night of my league. First week I shot a 64, low round of the year was a 50 (missed that 49 on the edge of the cup on the last hole) I struggle around the greens, and it seems if my irons are on point, my driving sucks, and when I'm driving good I can't put together my irons. I have a good feeling about tonight though, time to shoot under 50.
  2. I was taught to play probably too young, back when I didn't take the game seriously. After taking last year off and STRUGGLING this year, someone from my league mentioned this book, and I picked it up. Instantly I remember being 8 and these same lessons being taught to me by my grandfather (all the ones I never cared to learn). A few tweaks to my grip and swing plane and I am hitting the ball way better overnight.
  3. The rebel flag means different things to different people. I'm from Michigan and have no attachment to the flag, for the Dukes of Hazard for that matter. I, like many other people, see it as a symbol of oppression, as it was heavily used in the Jim Crow south as a symbol of white supremacy. Others see it as a symbol of pro slavery, some as a symbol of their southern heritage, where their family fought and died in what they viewed as northern aggression by a tyrannical centralized federal government. To some, it stands for sovereign states rights (I would disagree as you couldn't belong to the Confederacy unless slavery was legal in your state). tens of thousands of soldiers that never owned slaves gave their life under that flag standing up for their state. I understand how the flag by itself can be offensive, especially if it were flown on a capitol building or other government or municipal buildings. however I am long past the point where we should deface a piece of history because someone is offended. The flag was JUST removed at Fort Sumter, where the first shots of the Civil War began. I don't like the move to erase history because history happens to be offensive. Bubba owns the car, he can do with it what he wishes. But if he is afraid of offending someone, perhaps the better move would be to sell it to an enthusiast or a collector or something.
  4. Ball striking Bunker play Chipping and pitching
  5. I'm sure this has been brought up before, but a friend and coworker that I play golf with almost on a weekly basis is a cheater. Yesterday I counted three strokes on the first two holes that he didn't record. Drive not where he wanted it on the fairway, tees up another ball. Lost ball or in the water, drops without penalty. Hits a chip fat or thin, drops another ball and picks up his first without penalty. Ball under a tree, shoe wedge , with no penalties. Conveniently forgets to count strokes. On and on. My grandfather taught me the game of golf with a pretty strict adherence to the rules. I was also a member of a country club, which for my time there further set in stone that you don't cheat at the game of golf. I believe that golf mirrors life, and if you are willing to lie and cheat at golf, they you are willing to lie and cheat in other areas. I want to talk with him about it, but don't want to come across as uptight as he may not see the game as seriously as I do. Oh, btw he "beat" me by two strokes yesterday....
  6. Eagle Eye is a great course. Played an outing there a few years ago and it was one of the best courses I have ever played. I am I. The genesee county area, Flint. My fav local course is the Preserve south of Fenton. Was a member at Davison for a few years, and I believe it is now open to the public on the weekdays. I can't really suggest any course near Detroit as I never travel south to play. Michigan is great, only downside is the winters.
  7. When you talk about path, is this achieved by body alignment and not a change in swing plane?
  8. thanks. I'm going to test that out
  9. Hello all, name is Matt. I am getting back into the game after a few years off and it feels like I have never played before. Seems like a lot of good information here, hope you don't mind if I stay a bit.
