  1. I received this tip a long time ago from a teaching pro .... helped me so that putting is the best part of my game. ...... As you know, golf is a mental game, so it's OK to play mental games. There's something about rolling a little ball, not only on the right line, but the right speed where it'll get there just in time to drop into a hole. - That's a lot to think about. What he told me is that it's easier to "Hit" something.. He suggested that instead of a hole you have to mentally come up with an equation that will drop the ball into the hole, you pretend that instead of a hole, it's a "Pole". It's so much easier to roll the ball and hit a pole sticking out of the green. He demonstrated this to me by putting 3 balls in a row, 7 feet from the hole. .... I sunk one and missed 2 (both short)... Then he put his Coke Cup into the hole where the majority of the cup was sticking up and out of the hole.... He said I should forget the hole, and try and "hit the cup"..... 3 more balls, same distance - I hit the coke cup 3 times. Not one ball was short, and had I missed the coke cup, they would have been about 2 feet past. So everytime I stand up to a putt, instead of thinking how fast do I need to hit it to have it just roll into the hole, I think about hitting that pole that's sticking out of the green.. It does me well, and it's the way I've taught my 2 hdcp son... Just a thought... Rick
  2. Wondering if a custom shaft for my TM R1 driver would help improve my drives.. I'm 67 yrs, 245lb, 6', and have an 9 hcp. My average drive is about 265 - 270. I currently have an Aldila RIP Phenom 55g R flex shaft. I have the head set on Neutral with a 9.5 loft. I've never thought of changing shafts until recently, when 2 diff pro's (lessons) mentioned in passing that I have a pretty good swing, and perhaps a custom shaft could provide some improvement. - I dont' know what part of the ball flight they were talking about that would improve, and what I should look at to be making improvements.. I dont' know anything about "Kick points" or other aspects of shafts to know what I'd need. What I "DO" know is that they run from $30 to a couple of hundred dollars... I just don't know why. How do I know if I need another shaft - If so, what would I look at that would make the biggest improvement .... etc. Any help ? Rick
  3. Trying to find a good, lightweight, rain suit that's truly WATERPROOF, not water resistant, and - here's the biggie - it has to really be breathable. Had an old suit that was wonderful, but ripped and I got rid of it without seeing what brand it was (bought it many years ago and just took it for granted) ... Went and bought a jacket/pants - lightweight "Red Ledge" ..... fine for walking around but the minute I sat in the cart, my butt was soaked. Knew I was going to play Sun Valley in Idaho so went out and got another suit - "Frog Togs" ......... Out of 18 holes, I wore them for about 3 holes. Had to take them off as my shirt was more wet than the outside of my suit. Well, the label DID say breathable ..... Hardly ... it was like wearing a Trash Bag. Now, I'm looking at a new line - Zero Restriction. A bit more than what I've paid before, but I'm tired of brands that state they're "Breathable", and the inside ends up with more moisture than the outside ... We'll see how this works out. I can get them on EBay for about 1/2 of what they're going retail. BTW, if you're in the area, you HAVE to play Sun Valley - what a beautiful, long, classy course !!! I'll let you know about the rain suit when I get it ..... Rick
  4. Never happened to me yet, but if it did, I'd pull out my wallet and suggest a couple of bucks on the game !!
  5. Recently I normally shoot 39 - 41 for 9 holes on my home course.. Wanted to take a St. George, UT vacation for a week and play on various courses, so I played every day at home for 4-5 days to practice... (Didn't want to pay big prices and shoot crap). Took off and played 5 days out of a 7 day trip. Sand Hollow = 81, Coral Canyon = 75, Sky Mountain 77, and another I can't remember = 75.... Came home Sunday, and Monday evening I played in our normal League night ........ Shot a 53. Couldn't swing a club to save my life. Topping it, Chunking it, Slicing off the tee (and I 'don't slice).. Absolutely everything I tried felt totally foreign. Was NEVER comfortable over a shot. It's taken a couple of weeks to get that crap out of my system, and am just now playing my normal game. Did I just play too much ???? I can't help think about the Pro's that play every day or hit 100's of balls daily ... THEY benefit from more play ... All I did was ruin my normal game for a while .... But I had a blast in St. George .. played my ass off !!! Thoughts?
  6. Used to play the ProV's and changed out mid year .... went to the Bridgestone E6 yellow and noticed no difference in my scores... 3 weeks ago we had our League playoffs, and I purchased and used 6 for $7.00 "SpongeBob" balls ... Team mates were a little dismayed and gave me a bunch of sh*t, but .... we won and placed first. My score was, again, an average score (39). Yes, balls are different, but I don't think they really end up making very much difference in the end score. (they actually putt very well !!) Not something I'll use again, but was fun to play with my team mates, as well as a stupid yellow ball with a sponge face on it! Was a fun night....
