Teeing up outside the tee off zone followed by OB shot
Akhil Puri replied to Akhil Puri's topic in Rules of Golf
So going OB and teeing off from in front of the marker is more or less the same thing ? -
Teeing up outside the tee off zone followed by OB shot
Akhil Puri replied to Akhil Puri's topic in Rules of Golf
If he hadnt gone OB he would be playing his 4th ? Now because he went OB and was also ahead of the marker he plays his third from the tee because the 2nd penalty only counts if he was in play ? is this correct ? -
Let me hit back with this piece . http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/04/tiger-woods-jordan-spieth-record-roger-federer-criticize-golf-course-easy-masters-soft-quote I have a lot of respect for Speith and his temperament . But there is no one like tiger and there never will be purely because of the passion with which he plays the sport . He has inspired a generation to take to this otherwise "slow and mundane game meant for old foggies or for chidren who start playing before they hit their teens " by the way he has carried himself over the last decade and a half .. if it wasn't for him golf wouldn't have caught up the way it has with the 20 somethings

I was reading the golf digest and it says : Q You teed your ball in front of the markers ( a two shot penalty ) and it goes out of bounds ( a penalty of stroke and distance ) . Your opponent says you are hitting your fourth shot when you re-tee. OK ? Ans: Not OK. You're penalized two strokes for playing outside the teeing ground . That ball wasn't in play so the ensuing shot didn't count. decision 11-4b/6 What does this mean ? Where do you play your next shot from and which shot will you be hitting? Fifth off the tee?

Im glad something positive came out of that post ! the thing is i have a problem hitting controlled shots . I usually hit my lob 70 yards and my sand 100 . its the yardage in between that in find hard to home in on. It was probably stupid to have teed' up , its anyway a difficult club to hit . I believe in asking stupid questions so please enlighten this poor soul on when you should tee up and when you shouldnt.. like my friend hit his gap 50 degrees from the turf and he was on the dancefloor.. didnt make me feel any better .. lol

Hi guys, I played a round today and my self worth has it its lowest point ever. One of the worst rounds ever and im making a habit of it. So ive decided to contact a coach and he is going to walk the course with me tomorrow . Before my lesson tomorrow i thought id get a couple of tips from you guys on what i need to do to address the topic of this post. Any kind of suggestions would be welcome so please feel free to drop a line or two. Just to give you guys some more information about what happened today . The par 3s. 3 of them - 85 , 115 and 175 yards. For the 85 yards i decided to hit a full lob wedge . I tee'd up a little more than i normally do and topped it . For the 100 yards one i decided to go with my sand and pulled to the left . And for the last one i went right . Needless to say it was a confidence killer and result of which i started hooking my long irons . I have a feeling i was not square at impact, slightly closed , for the longer irons What kind of drills would you recommend for bottoming out correctly? I think if im able to figure that , that should sort out 70% of my problem. Or should i start with my grip ? I'm a righty and my right thumb is in line with the shaft . I choke down hell of a lot so much so that my right thumb is almost at the edge of the grip ... it gives me a sense of control . Is that a bad thing ? Should i be gripping more towards the center ? Lots of mental pain after a bad round . i have a tournament coming up on Sunday and course correction is needed. Any kind of suggestions are welcome guys . Im all ears . I love this game and hate to see myself performing badly. Cheers. Ax

This game is such a mind****. Sorry for the unpro language but i cant help it . I was playing the monsoon cup today , on the 11th hole i hit my best drive ever. I use a RBZ rocket balls driver and i banged this srixon ball 325 yards bang in the middle of the fairway . Believe me when i say that i couldnt have placed it better with my own hands . My four ball was super impressed. I too was feeling really happy with myself since i had a triple on the last hole. so im left with 90 yards . The ball is sitting perfectly and there is a strong tail wind. I cant decide between a 3/4 th sand and a full lob . My caddy after seeing my distances suggests a full lob. Now after a super drive like that im obviously feeling super confident that im going to be on the green with a confirmed bird in hand. I take 3 to 4 dry swings to check if im bottoming out correctly and getting that cutting edge divot . Having done my pre shot routine i swing and its a horrible duff .I get some 30 yards . Im extremely agitated with myself and try to calm myself down that i can still do an up and down and get out of here with a par. I decide to stick with the lob . With 60 odd yards left and the tail still up i need to hit a 3/4 th 60 deg now . I take two dry swings focusing on bottoming out and making that controlled 3/4th of a swing . I hit my 3rd and its a goddamn duff again!!!! My caddy is in disbelief and the other 4 ball caddy is looking the other way and is in splits . My four ball looks at me with 1/3rd sympathy , 1/3 rd joy and 1/3rd " WTF happened there there is no way you could have done that !!! " Now i mean this is literally the fricking heights . It has never happened that i have hit a really stellar drive and im feeling super pumped up about my self and the game but i end up ruining two consecutive shots . Its one thing to screw up your tee shot which is a confidence killer and then to take that low feeling to the next shot but here i have hit the best drive ever , feeling like adam scott , and then to duff like i had hit the tee further than the ball the previous shot. The tournament got washed out but thats not making me feel any better either . How do you deal with such incidents when they happen ? Looking forward to hearing from you guys.. i need to hear some really horrible stories so i can start feeling better again . Lol

Hey Everyone, Im a fitness freak and love to work out so much so that i feel it might begin to change the big muscles in such a way that could affect my range of motion. Now is that a myth because when i look at Dustin Johnson i can tell that guy hits the gym like a bull !!! Also i play a lot of squash .. not sure how it would affect my golf game positively but i do feel it might add value in some way even though im not aware how exactly !! Now is there such a thing as golf oriented work out if you want to turn pro eventually or just play really good golf ? I suppose not when you look at John Daly and Aphibarnat (Thai john daly) It would be really cool to hear what you guys who work out / do not work out alike feel on this subject ? PS : I have a tournament tomorrow and im wondering whether working the big muscles will affect my game and how.. Sorry if there is a thread already on the subject just needed some fresh perspective going forward . Cheers. Akhil

I've been Playing Golf for: 3 years My current handicap index or average score is: 20 My typical ball flight is: High The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Snap hook with the driver, hitting it fat with the wedges and too thin with the pitching wedge off the tee Videos: I thought i didn't feel the need for a lesson since my grandpa was a good golfer and i thought i had the genes , which is quite arrogant really , something that i now realize. So i decided about a year back to iron out some issues with my swing and short game when i couldn't break 90 and took 2/3 lessons . The coach said i was too handsy, but i did compensate for it with a decent enough swing. Since then i am trying to incorporate more of my shoulders in my takeaway but to be very honest im still struggling to achieve any sort of consistency with the driver , My swing speed is close to 120 when i last used the trackman which was a year ago. Im ok with my 5i - 8i , the moment im less the 150 yards is the time i start stugggling with distance control. I hit my wedges too fat and while teeing off with my pitching too thin. I feel i can break 85 easily but im in my way at the moment and its very hard for my to really put together what exactly is it that im not being able to over come . Its a bit a recklessness mixed with fear . Anyway hoping for some honest feedback from you folks! Cheers, Akhil

Anyone who cant hit a driver - driver - putter and make eagle on the 18th (which tournament was this ?) to win has my vote. Id love to drive it like bubba . I like his chirpiness too.

In general out on the course and if it is a up hill or down hill lie im in big trouble. Im a tall guy and tend to choke down and bend as well . During my preshot routine i try and skim the surface of the turf (if i hit 1 or 2 airy shots i will try and hit the ground so as not to take out a divot) but when it comes to actual execution i fail . Mostly i hit fat shots with my wedges and thin with my Pitching wedge off the tee. Its extremely frustrating and humiliating to say the least when youre playing a ball with people whom just been introduced to Any drills? Tips and tricks ? what about uphill and downhill lies ? Thanks Guys.

snap hooking the ball off the tee
Akhil Puri replied to duffedit's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
i like whats going on here !! i too am snap hooking the driver like n0bodys business a low lying hooker if you must :P my irons and 4 rescue is ok, and i agree with everyone who feels that the face is closed at impact or way closed wrt to swing path. would really appreciate it someone could tell me what else is off other than the fact that im closed at impact ... whats a good drill to prevent the driver from turning in my hands during transition ? sorry for the poor quality.
