  1. Ebay also has some good user submitted tutorials and such about helping to spot fakes. There is one great one with pics of the Camerons.
  2. So if a club has say 2+ upright bend/lie, does this mean the face is sitting straighter towards the ball or laying more back than standard? Hope this makes sense. I got the 2* upright and they seem to be less lofted looking. Likley a mental thing.
  3. I wish I could hit a 3i, but can't. When I do it goes about the same distance as my 5i. Just got a few hybrids I hope I can hit. I am awaiting a good enough swing to put a 3i in the bag though!
  4. I'm 6'1". MY fitter told me +1" and 2* upright. I actually found the set of clubs I wanted used basically...2*, 1/2" over (not the 1") and grip 1/32 over. Just got them, but they feel great. The gripsize alone feels better.
  5. I have an older Ping anser nickel I always loved. Lately I haven't been hitting it so I am gonna snag a Bettindari and a Cameron and see which one wins out.
  6. I love the Sumo sound~! I bought a used R7 460 (moveable weights) and love it. FOund a used Sumo sq. and bought it for the sound alone, the day after I got the 460. Anyways, as much as I tried to play the Sumo, I just couldn't. Ended up taking back the Sumo for some hybrids. I kept the r7 460 and love it. I have a small slice and with the weights it really helps keeping it in the fairway. I'm not along hitter, but I hit that sucker pretty far. I think someone had one for sale on here actually.
  7. It does help explain things. Plus now I won't have to ask the whole approach/gap wedge ? either :>) !!!
  8. Good thoughts. I have been playing balls that sell for around $20 a dozen, and yes, I lose many. MY "thinking" is the reload ProV's, even with minor blems, water, etc, are still going to be a better feeling ball and cheaper at the same time. Just not as pretty as new. I am roughly saving $.60 a ball. So, would you guys think the reload Prov's are a better ball than say Titelist models that sell new for $25 a doz?
  9. Thanks, excellent reply! I found a great deal on two used Burners, a 4 and 5, so I am hoping they do the trick. If not, I got them cheap enough I can recoup my $ easily. SO far they feel great,b ut we'll see on the course.
  10. This is so interesting. As I just got back into the sport, I am amazed at all that has changed. We used to have a pw and a sw or lw, now everyone carries more. I have a used set of Pings comign that has the pw, gap, sw, and lw. I am excited to see how they are and what I can do. I am really interested in the gap/approach wedge the most. My? is, I see some of you use various brands, even for your pw. Does that sorta throw you off using a different pw than what your other longer irons might be, or do you approach all wedges as we used to with sw and lw? I guess I sorta looked at sw/lw as whole other breeds back then. Even though I have those coming, I looked at the Vokeys today and thought that spin milled looked and felt great...If I cannot draw/backspin (at all), would one of those designs at least help the ball check more often for me? I can check it maybe 30% of the time, so anything would help that aspect.
  11. I just always heard that water balls can be way different than just used balls. I assume there are many water balls in this pack. Either way, it will give me a chance to try them out at least! Appreciate the feedback.
  12. Couldn't pass up the bag of 36 Pro V1's at $35. So, are these even worth playing with or just for practice?
  13. I just hit a few models. A store had some use dones, a Studio NP 1.5 for $150 in great shape, woulda snagged it but it was short. Also the 62 really impressed me. Luckily they had the '07 and the new one. I liked them both, but in agreement with Scotty above, the new model's hit just seemed to feel better. Is the last year's model with the insert supposed to be a softer feel, cause the 08 felt softer to me.
  14. I am gonna get one, but am looking at the '07 models. Those in the know, is the '08 model simply better?
  15. Are rescue and hyrbids the same concept, just named differently? As I am back into this game after many years away (poor player to boot), so many things have changed. As I am building my new bag of clubs, here's what I need... I have never and doubt I will ever be able to hit long irons. I am actually really good with my fairway woods from most lies. I have a 3 and 5. The 5 I am hitting 160-1170 and the 3 170-190. The problem is I only feel confident with up to my 6 iron, so looking for a club or two to hit that 150-180 range. I am thinking a 22* and 26* (or somewhere in there) for a few more options, basically to replace 3-5 irons. Or go with possibly a 7 wood that feels good? Bascially when I am sitting 160-180 out I am at the will of hitting my 5 wood just right, so if I had a club that when hit "right/proper" it would fill that 160-170 void. So, sorry for the rant...rescue/hybrid, same basic thing? Burner, Nike, or Ping is what I've looked at that feels good just gripping and setting up.
  16. Ended up going with a killer deal on G5's, used. SHould be here middle of the week!
  17. I just tried both...I think the 10's went a little straighter for me. Could easily be a mental thing as well. So any thoughts on the Nike 4D's compared to the G10's per forgiveness? I'll likely order up early next week.
  18. I used to dress the traditional way when I was dead serious about the game. All of you are going to hate me from my reading of this thread...I am the guy who wears cut-off shirts and baggy shorts. Even with my profession (special ed. teacher), I still prefer to dress comfortable to me. After all, I am also a biker and musician. I do call ahead and check for dress codes, but when they say "no code", I always wear the tanks. Tradition is a wonderful thing, but I personally think there are more important aspects of tradition such as courtesy and mannerisms on the course. Then again, you are nto going to see me playing at a nice club or private course, so I'm one up on the guys who wear cut-off jean shorts :>)
  19. Thanks guys. I am pretty much set on the Pings at this point I believe. Just curious as to to the 5's vs. 10
  20. Ok, Tried numerous sets today. My biggest thing is I want a set of irons that are really forgiving and help me get the ball up and straighter more consistently. I tried the Sumos, nope. I did however really like the Nike 4D, but they just felt sorta hard. I was about to go home and and hit ebay for some used ones and then I tried the Ping G10's. Back when I played more and was better (my best round was maybe 90) I had some Eye 2's copper and never really liked them for some reason. So after getting a little used to the G10 today, I think I like it, though I was hitting the Nike 4D straighter, the Ping's hit felt soooo much better. The guys at the mass-chain golf store told me both sets would likely be about the same in forgiveness. One guy told me the Ping's would be more forgiving. Now I think the Nike;s actually would be. Who knows? Do any of you? Now, I could go spend $700 smackers on a set of G10's, but the G5's can be had under $500 new now. I have not hit them. G10's easier, much better, etc? For those of you who have hit any or all of these (5, 10, Nike 4d), which set is most forgiving. I could care less about working the ball, etc. I do like a nice feel, but care more about getting a half-way decent game going for once in my life. Again, I'm playing the cheap Maxfli Fire irons now and they play great for me, but feel like poo and seem to fall short in flight. Thanks man, I really appreciate all of your help!
  21. I hit some today not the OSS though. I liked the 4D better than the sumo. But, I also liked the Ping G10, so gonna start another thread.
  22. I recently got back into golfing. I saw those, but didn't care for them. I di however buy the Maxfli Fire set. Doesn't have the bag or putter, but $300. A great set of clubs for the $ IMO. I am however looking for the next set of better clubs. But, all my pals who hit my Fires say they are pretty darn for the $. Good luck.
  23. I'm gonna go try and hit some. Thing is, I truly need to hit them at an actual range, but only indoor places around here for trying gear, even within an hour or so driving distance so that makes it harder for me personally to distinguish if I truly am hitting something decent for my game. For the record, back when I was into golf I went through tons of irons, Cleveland VAS and Titelist DCI (oversize) were the ones I did best with back then.
  24. Thanks guys, truly appreciate ll the comments. I am looking at the OSS because the remind me of the Fires and am hoping the will just feel better upon contact basically. Cleveland Hibore maybe better then?
  25. VR, shoot me your auction link. I don't know. I am hitting these Maxfli Fire irons really well, just no distance. I love the forgiveness, cept they have no real feel. So...Suggest some for maximum forgiveness please. NO brand loyalty with me. It's what works and catches my eye.
