  1. yes it was in the bleachers. last year i was there also, but because of the crowds around the teebox i went high and filmed the players and the teebox only. this year i wanted to incorporate some of the hole as well. you can at least see the ball come off the club, though you really can't see where it is going. 15 is the only hole where there is a grandstand at the tee. jack nicklaus has said that is the best place to watch the action if you are high enough, you can see the approach shot on 14, and the tee shots on both 15 and 18.
  2. was at muirfield village today for the memorial tournament practice round, and shot these videos...enjoy. i will also be at the pro-am tomorrow, will be shooting more videos and will post them as well.
  3. that makes sense, given my shoulder issues, and the fact i'm not getting a whole lot of distance. don't know how pronounced it is though. i was googling and found a video of someone's swing on this site of all places, it was flat and pronounced to the point that aesthetically, it looked not so good, but he said it was effective. next time at the range i will be conscious of the back swing, try to bring it more on plane and see if the shoulder can withstand it. maybe its just a matter of getting the shoulder stronger as well.
  4. well, went out yesterday, and was hitting the driver the best i hit it so far this year. straight with some loft, not terribly long, but pretty satisfied. i find if i reach for the ball a little bit, i can hit it better. i know that goes against conventional wisdom, but it doesn't work for me. i end up pulling everything left. maybe an issue with club fitting? i've always bought off the rack, being of average height. but wondering if i would do better with a little longer shafts?
  5. i've been trying to get out of the habit of setting up left, with an open stance. its been about 2-3 years maybe since I've hit a consistent fade. but I've also got a couple of new drivers in that time. but as convinced as I am that I no longer hit a consistent fade, my mind wants me to set up the same way I had for years. maybe it became so habitual, like any habit, it has become difficult to break. i was out today, and was conscious about the setup and ball position with my driver. i squared up more, kept the shut face, and am using 4" tees, putting the tee just slightly in the ground each time. a friend of mine told me i needed to move closer to the ball, but i actually hit the driver better when i am reaching for the ball just a bit. i am still lacking distance, but loft is improving a bit, and I seem to have more control with the shot. as far as routine goes, i don't take a practice swing. i pretty much in my mind, by looking out into the fairway, determine where I want the ball to end up, and set up accordingly. i always used to set up toward the far right side of the tee to account for the fade, but now I find myself setting up more left, trusting that my drives will go straighter. i've been setting up in the middle of my stance, but I'm strongly considering going back to setting up near the front like I used to. I will probably hit the range to experiment.
  6. personally, i wear ray-bans that have a retro look, and seem to work great.
  7. i've been playing golf for close to 30 years, most of which with a chronic shoulder, which has undergone 10 shoulder disclocations, but none for about the last 8-10 years, when i decided to give up any sport that may involve falling. i notice it has affected my follow-through. it is less than full. as a result, i am not getting much loft. i used to depend on a fade which was very consistent and something i could live with. i compensated by keeping an open stance. within the last 2-3 years, the fade completely disappeared, and now i am either hitting it dead straight, or pulling it left. i am having trouble convincing myself to alter my stance to avoid the lefts, it is still open and i am facing slightly left. my mind is convinced if i adopt a closed stance, then i will start hitting it right. another issue that has me thinking about the rights is keeping the driver face open at address. to me, it looks like because the angle of the face, the ball will go right. so i keep the driver face shut, but in doing so, i lose loft. i don't know if i am asking for advice, or just putting into writing the state of my game from the tee, but if anyone can relate and would like to share, it is much appreciated.
  8. just yesterday i played an executive course in the area that is part of the metroparks system. they keep the course in great shape, and the staff there is very friendly and knowledgable. i generally go there when i'm playing bad, or if i want to sneak in a fast nine before work. there are several holes where i can use driver, and several par-threes are long enough where i can use mid-irons or even a hybrid.
  9. well, i played my first round yesterday, sunny skies, temps in the high 60s, ground still wet from snow a couple of days before, and to say i was rusty was an understatement. i had one par on a par three, about 120 yards over water which i hit a little knuckler 8-iron to about 12 feet, and missed the putt. i actually whiffed the ball about a half a dozen times, hit the ball into, yes, into the ground on another occasion, and basically got my club stuck in the mud on any ball that got airborne. my score was high, that's all ill say, but in the words of tiger, i'm close. i feel like on a drier course i would've done better. i don't have much experience when it is wet.
  10. Being in a place where there are winters, and this year, then some, I finally got out to the driving range for the first time this year, anticipating playing nine holes later in the week. To say I was rusty was an understatement. Having to hit off a mat because the grass tees were closed, I couldn't get the ball airborne. I finally gave up and decided to hit off the rubber white tee. Luckily I had an epiphany when the thought entered my head, 'go down after the ball'. I decided to hit off the mat again, consciously attempting to hit the mat with the ball, and had good results. The ball went airborne, it went straight, I was able to hit the sweet spot on the face. Then I ran out of balls. I considered it a good session, hitting the ball better at the end than at the beginning. It doesn't always go that way. The true test will be when I hit the course. We'll see how it goes.
  11. a typical day in the life of a yahoo fantasy golf player... so i set my lineup a day early, for fear that i may wait too late and not set a lineup at all. the dilemma: do i tweak, or don't i tweak. last week, i tweaked up until the final second, in fact, i was one tweak too late as i missed out on putting luke donald in my lineup, who ended up with a high finish. this week, i said, lets just leave the lineup alone. this is gonna be rickie fowler's week. a high finish in last year's api coupled with his work with butch harmon, he's going to break out. forget about this adam scott and patrick reed combination dancing through my head. i've been burned before by these 'hunches'. scott beats fowler by 11 strokes and shoots the course record...i end up with a grand total of 4 points for the day. way to stick to your guns, yahoo fantasy golf player .
  12. i'd have to say lee westwood, for an incident in the 2008 pga championship that i witnessed live. on the #11 hole, he hit his drive into the left rough, which was high to say the least, and he couldn't get it out. instead of taking his lumps, he blamed a fan which was part of the throng following phil down the adjacent fairway. he later complained in the press that the course setup was unfair, which led to his bad round and missing the cut. ironically, we tend to look at westwood as one of the nice/good guys on tour. he may still be, but my impression of him is definitely left of that.
  13. i think you did ok .
  14. hard to say, if reed doesn't finish in the top three and scott has a better round, then no. one time it was either last year or the year before, i kept sergio on the bench because i felt he was out of contention, he ended shooting a low 60 number and finished in the top three.
  15. a cigar in one hand, a ferrari in another.
  16. i historically do well in the winter, and not-so-well in the spring and summer. the elite players tie my picks up in knots, frankly.
  17. well, i had reed. and that was it. to me, fowler was the biggest surprise. i guess working with butch, and getting a butch, has worked wonders so far.
  18. sorry i'm late to the party. also filled out a bracket, my winner is out (poulter). i went 18-14 the first round. the most matches i can win the second round is 10.
  19. i noticed that also. seems its good to go to set picks when i see 'ne' next to players names used from the prior week not playing in the current week's tournament.
  20. I joined the group for this year. New to the board as well. This is my third year playing Yahoo Fantasy Golf. I didn't finish the first year because it got to be too frustrating, but I managed to finish last year. I ended up in the 80th percentile, which to me, is pretty good, but I would like to get better. I felt I did well this week, had Zach Johnson and Webb Simpson for the bonus pts. but missed out on Jordan Speith. I would've been closer to first had I not switched to DJ for the final round, thinking he would finish in the top three. If anything, my weakness is that I tend to make too many moves, instead of picking the best players and riding them out for the whole tournament. My goal is to score better in the major tournaments. I was simply awful last year.
  21. New to the board here, came in through the back by finding a posting for the Sand Trap Yahoo Fantasy Golf group, which i also joined. Played high school golf, lettered, then suffered a series of shoulder dislocations which reeked havoc with my game. Can still swing the club, thankfully, but every shot is a knockdown shot because I don't get a full follow-through. I get in maybe 15-20 rounds a year, but I always say I will play more next year. Maybe this is the year (lol)! Thanks for having me!!
