  1. I would have to go: 1: US Open 2: PGA Championship 3: British 4: Masters (mainly because I didn't watch much of it)
  2. I've touched on this in another thread and I'm sure others have had to deal with this too. Swans. Big. Angry. Swans. Most courses usually have their share of ducks, geese, swans and other bird life. Now the difference is ducks and most geese will get out of the way when you approach. Swans, however, do not. Swans will stand their ground. Swans WILL fight you. Especially when you almost hit them with an approach shot and your ball is chilling 3 feet away from one. Your ball is in their territory now. I know this from experience.
  3. It's all personal preference really. If you don't think you are really missing any distance than there's no reason why it would be necessary. Like you said long par 5's and control off the tee are the advantages. Also if you play unfamiliar courses a lot it could be good to have more options in the bag.
  4. Now you just get to watch more nationally televised Jets games!....ugh
  5. oobgolf.com is mobile friendly and you can do live scoring. Go to mobile.oobgolf.com on you Treo.
  6. I wouldn't try tinkering with your swing either. It seems like you play a lot, maybe you just need a little break from golf altogether. This has worked for me with golf and other sports. Just take a week and don't play or even go to the range. You might be slumping because it is feeling like the same ole same ole, so taking a week or two off will allow to to come back with a fresh feel and more enthusiasm.
  7. Yup, this is definitely the place to go, watching on my laptop right now!
  8. After this series of shots: 1. HUGE slice off the tee on a dogleg left, ends up in the rough and far away about 220 to the green 2. 3W shank rolls 20 feet, still in rough and a huge tree around 75 yards now between me and the green 3. 5W to try a fade around the tree to no avail, tree eats the ball, but ends up in front of the tree to with clear line to the green I hit this: 7i out of the rough from around 150, sticks it on the green 15 feet from the pin. I ended up with a 2 putt double bogey, but this one shot really gave me a lot of confidence for the rest of the round, pretty much because it just looked really cool.
  9. Generally speaking, a shaft that is too stiff is going to result in fades and slices and a shaft that is too flexible is going to result in hooks. More detail here
  10. Coming ever so close to breaking 100 with a 103 today. Hit 7 of 14 fairways, which I have never even come close to doing before. One blow up hole and really bad 40-60 yard shots cost me the sub 100 today. My 15 year-old TaylorMade 3W treated me very well today.
  11. Most you've ever paid for a round: Approx. $120 at a course just outside of Dublin, IRE. Can't remember the name, but there is an old 16th century castle in the middle of course. If anyone knows this one please pm me the name. Least you've ever paid for a round (other than "free"): $8 (9 holes), Mountain View Golf Course (RIP), Greenwood Village, CO Best course you've ever played: Lone Tree GC, Lone Tree, CO Worst course you've ever played: Mountain View again, last 2-3 months before it closed they basically stopped up keep of the course. Most underrated course: South Suburban GC, Littleton, CO Most overrated course: ? Lowest round: 105, Lone Tree GC Highest round: Repressed memory Career holes-in-one: 0 Easiest golf course you've ever played: Family Sports Center Course, Englewood, CO Hardest golf course you've ever played: Probably the course in Dublin Most exciting moment on a golf course: Scramble tournament, holed a approx. 25 yard chip on 18 for a team birdie Most heartbreaking moment on a golf course: Nothing too terrible, a few weeks ago it took 3 strokes to get out of a bunker Most harrowing moment on a golf course: Playing my ball a couple of feet away from a very large and angry swan. It was a very delicate situation given the swan did not like me in his "territory" Most balls lost during a round: Probably 8-10 Most holes played in one day: 18 Fewest number of putts in an 18-hole round: 41 since I started counting Most number of putts in an 18-hole round: I don't even want to know Longest putt ever made: Approx 40 feet Most putts ever on a single hole: In recent memory 3 Weirdest thing ever seen on a golf course: Nothing out of the ordinary
  12. 1. I hit my best when I stay away from the driving range for a few days 2. Keeping accurate scores (i.e. no mulligans, taking all my penalty strokes) is actually beneficial to my improvement 3. I need to be WAY more aggressive in my short game 4. Getting up early and walking 9 holes on a weekday morning when the course is empty is very refreshing
  13. GIR always allows for 2 putts for par, so basically subtract 2 from par and that is the GIR of the hole. GIR is also recorded if you reach the green in under the GIR, so if you do reach a par 5 in 2, that is a GIR. Sorry can't answer the other question on fairway hits, but I have always assumed that you only get credit for a fairway hit on your first attempt off the tee. Could be wrong though.
  14. 48 on 9 holes this morning. Ball striking was not very good but I putted better today. I left myself a lot of easy 2nd putts, which I had not done last week at the same course. For the first time ever (9 or 18 holes) I finished the day with the same ball I started with, so I got that going for me.
  15. This morning played my first 9 holes since last summer. Scored a 51. Two horrendous holes on 7 & 8 cost me 3-4 strokes. Finished nicely though with a par on 9 and my best iron shot of the day. Mid and long irons played really well for my first outing in a while. Driver and 3-wood were awful and short game showed lack of practice.
