  1. Play it in the middle of your stance and take a more abrupt stroke, just like a buried lie in a bunker; that will both trap and compress the ball.
  2. You need to go to a facility with a launch monitor. I played golf for years with the both the wrong flex driver shaft and one with an inappropriate flex point for my swing type. I was shocked at what my real swing speed was as opposed to what I thought it was. However, fair warning, this is just part of the equation. The next thing I did was take a series of 3 lessons; that combination is not the only way but one of the best ways to improve. Hope that helps.
  3. What is the best Mizuno iron for an improving mid-handicapper; hit some good shots, but not yet very consistent; handicap is a 14 and dropping slowly. Still want forgiveness, but want a set to grow into. Any suggestions and thanks.
  4. I would not replace the 48, I would add the 52. In general, there should be a 4 degree gap between your wedges. That has been my experience.
  5. That's exactlly what I hate, the self-indulgent Jim stealing precious time when most viewers can easily repeat the history of the tournament. Really, it's not about the golf, it's about Jim trying to be a part of the history of the tournament. You nailed it. Thanks.
  6. Fair warning to others who try to draw parallels in this thread that does not match the groupthink that is pervasive. This is way too much verbal abuse to take for having a different opinion. But I notice that in all your threads; so I am just considering the source.
  7. Yes, let's keep Augusta National happy; in the end, that's what it is all about as lots of folks who have replied to my inputs have so eloquently stated.
  8. Each year I wait with great anticipation for the Masters. I even take time off from work to watch all four rounds. While I applaud CBS and the sponsors for hours of nearly uninterruped coverage, I have two nits that maybe you agree with or maybe you don't, or maybe you have more: First, Jim Nance is nasueating as an announcer. His desire to say the magical phrase that will be repeated for years to come results in him making many of these phrases throughout the telecast; and they are just overdone rhetoric. That coupled with his overbaked lead in pieces, when we only really want to see golf is also irritating. Second, while I enjoy knowing what the leaders are doing, there certainly has to be other great golf being played around the course. Many years there have been references to someone shooting up the leader board, but you don't see any of that action. What do you think.
  9. It is clear that unless you agree with the majority you will be judged as irrational in this post. Someone once called it groupthink, but I am betting you will find that irrational also.
  10. I have paid as much as $120 for a putter; a Scotty of course. At one time I owned over 40 putters. I paid $23 for my current putter. It took me 2 years to find this one. As a few others have said, it is not about the price, but the feel, the level of comfort. I still like shopping for putters, but have not bought one in 8 months.
  11. By hosting a tournament, and getting paid by CBS and the handful of sponsors, they have transcended the "Private Club" realm. Let them host a tournament that is not televised; they can have their own private party; who cares. They promote themselves as one of the institutions of golf soaking up all the historical metaphors and basking in people gushing about their contributions to the game. So what you are saying is let's give them a free pass for their duplicity simply because they can hide behind the private club clause. Come on dude, the Nazi's just wanted a pure race. I wish some of these pros had to guts to be invited but decline on the basis of a club that has no moral center.
  12. Remember an entire country excluded an entire race, it was not lawyers that changed that, it was a moral outcry. It's not my morals, it should be everyone's morals who subscribe to live in this country. My point was and remains, this is not a legal issues, we don't need lawyers or elaborate explanations to understand that it is just plain wrong by the simple standard of human decency.
  13. Shindig: I appreciate your studied approach to my comments, but in the end we will have to agree to disagree on them taking the high road. Notice in the flap with the activist, the law was cited, nothing about morality. As an avid fan of golf I am aware of the Augusta Chairman traveling to Asia to personally offer their support for the growth of the sport in Asia (which it frankly does not need in Asia; I lived in Asia for a year, they are beyond passionate about the sport). 1Greatgolfguy: Well done. Flanagan: I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you are really passionate about this topic; otherwise I believe your remarks border on insulting. But I will let the moderators decide on that.
  14. Well, a few others took a more studied approach to my response and I respect their perspectives vice your knee jerk reaction.
