  2. High horse? Easy now. I erroneously thought this was her first win, which would be a pretty big deal considering the previous hype. And yes, the PGA Tour is obviously superior. On the other hand, Michelle Wie looks better than Matt Kuchar. And I watch female curling too.
  3. Lol. Definitely one of his more bizarre "impressions".
  4. Got her driver's license? I thought winning the Canadian Women's Open was her first LPGA win, but I guess she won a tourny last year too. Its painful hearing her talk, but she looks prety good hitting the ball...
  5. A nice accomplishment, regardless of how Michelle Wie and women's golf are perceived on this forum. This was definitely a much needed win for the LPGA tour. Good to see this, since the only threads I could find about women's golf here were about two DQs (disgraceful behaviour) and Erica Blasberg's suicide.
  6. I would say Detroit is vulnerable. They are deadly on the power play but can be outplayed five on five. (as illustrated in their recent loss to the Flames) The goaltending tandem of Osgood and Conklin scares no one and is going to be a major liability this year. Calgary has added Olli Jokinen up front and Jordan Leopold on defence to add depth for the playoffs, and Bertuzzi and Bourque should be back off injury in time for the playoffs. I think either San Jose or Calgary comes out of the West and Boston comes out of the East. Go Flames!
  7. Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I bought my first set of golf sandals this spring and they are great. I bought the Foot Joys sandals. I am playing more golf than ever this year and I credit the sandals for helping to bring about more consistency in my game. Wearing sandals forces me to pay closer attention to my stance and alignment and it makes me slow down my swing. The result is better ball striking and fewer pulls. For hot days they are great, my feet feel so much cooler(making my whole body feel cooler) and although bunkers can be a pain, I'm not in them as much. Yesterday I played my personal best round at Carstairs (83)wearing the sandals, two strokes better than my best round in my Ecco shoes. Of course, as with all sandals, socks are NEVER worn.
  8. A nice moment for sure. Norman and Villegas actually played together three weeks ago at the Canadian Skins Game at Predator Ridge (along with Monty, Mike Weir and Fred Couples). Definetely a diverse group internationally as well as generationally. They seemed to enjoy each other's company although Camillo cleaned up big time.
  9. To me Kenny Perry represents a mindset I despise in pro sports. Although I root for the underdog I respect and admire Tiger Woods more than any athlete in any sport because he is all about competing. He structures his schedule to maximise his game in the majors. He doesn't just want to win, he wants to destroy you. He seeks the toughest competitions and thrives in them. He is constantly retooling his game to stay on top, even though he was set for life before he ever won a PGA tour event. And I respect Phil, Ernie and Vijay, slogging through that horrific first day at the Open getting their asses handed to them while the rain hit them sideways. They are top players. they should be at the Open and they are, for better or for worse. Kenny Perry is not in their league and never will be.

    Golfing Solo

Playing with my friends is great, but they only play on weekends as a rule. I truly love the game so I have no problem going on as a single, indeed two thirds of my rounds are played alone or with strangers. The guys in the pro shop at my club try to put me out with other members so I have probably golfed with about half of our membership over the years. Even total strangers are fine because I have very very seldom played with people that made me feel uncomfortable. One of the most enjoyable rounds I ever played was when I joined up with a lesbian couple. It was like playing with a couple of guys as the good natured needling started by the time we putted out on the first green. I had a blast and it only happened because I was willing to play golf with total strangers. If they're golfers, thats enough common ground for me. I do play a few rounds a year all by myself. I try to play these rounds just like any other, that is I play one ball, no mulligans or "do overs". My biggest fear during these solo rounds is that I'll finally get that elusive hole in one and there will be no one around to witness it. Imagine telling your buddies "Yeah i got an ace, but I was alone......" Yeah for sure....
  11. Its taken me years, but I am finally finding relative consistency with my driver. I use a Callaway Big Bertha 454 10 degree regular flex. My drives travel about 225 to 240 going straight or with a slight draw. I will sometimes slice when I overswing but my most common bad drive is a duck hook which travels about 180. For this reason I tend to favour the right side of the fairway. I used to choke up on my driver because I'm only 5'7" but now I use a more upright stance, slight knee bend with my arms hanging straight down and a slightly stronger grip. Using this method I never end up grounding the club and because I use the whole shaft I get more distance, sometimes exceeding 260 yards. By hitting the big stick better this year I have already shaved 2.5 points off my index. The rough on my home course is murder. Fairways are nice. This is my first post and I must say this is a very enjoyable and useful forum.
