  1. I have 2 House of Forged shafts for my long drive driver and each has their own adapter for my x2hot head. The first time I had the adapters installed was by a local club maker. I allowed 24hrs cure time and both shafts twisted within 10balls. Later that night I was able to pull both shafts out of the adapters by hand. I took them down to golfsmith and we determined the first guy did not have the shafts seated all the way into the adapters. I let golfsmith do the install and everything seemed fine and he assured me they were all the way in and sturdy. Last night I had a shaft turn on me again and the other has developed a rattle. I only have about 100 hits on each shaft including one competition. Any thing specifically to look at or a stronger epoxy to suggest? I find it hard to believe this is common in the long driving community.
  2. Skip on the refurbished and look for the ProV1 practice balls, they are dang near perfect and if it weren't for PRACTICE being written on them most wouldn't tell the difference.
  3. This thread is going to end up costing me money! I love the look of blades but I hate how beat up forged irons get. My 11yr old i3+ blades (obviously not true blades) still look new. I could see going to a mixed set in the future. Like many things, looks fade and you are left with how well you do or do not hit the clubs. My old Pro II 1iron was the most beautiful club to look down at, for the month it stayed in my bag...
  4. I agree that the X2 hot's have pretty decent pop to them. I have a 9* head and a 5.5* pro head. The 9* head would be great for anyone who needs to hit their driver higher. I'm actually gonna sell mine soon hopefully.
  5. How do you even do that?!?!
  6. I never noticed the association people place on distances relative to handicaps nor how much judgement is placed on a handicap until I got on here. I've never even had an official handicap, I just put down 4 cause last year it seemed like my avg. score was +4 for 18. I'm sure if it was a real handicap it would probably be higher because I don't consider the courses I frequent to be very difficult. As far as club distances go vs handicap, I don't pay much attention. I get beat by guys all the time who don't hit it as far as I do. If a 20hcp'r says he hits it 300yds when he catches it I believe it, but I don't think he can repeat it very often or keep it straight. Oh well, I'm off to test a couple 48" shafts :)
  7. As soon as a 3wood head only is available for purchase I would love to try one.
  8. I think the only thing comparable between a hybrid and a 2 iron is the distance they may go. Different ball flights, one is more workable and the other more forgiving. When comparing the two clubs I think it comes down to the Indian, not the arrow. I also think a 2 iron is a great club to practice ball striking with; given the amount of feedback it provides. In fact, I hit 100 2irons last night into the net before bed. My first two years of high school golf I carried a Mizuno tzoid pro II 1 iron that was an absolute screamer off the tee. Looking back though it was a wasted club in my bag when comparing the number of times I hit it vs the number of times I could have used a 60* wedge or maybe even a 5/7wood.
  9. When a pro tees off, knowing he averages 290, it would be safe to say "I bet he is going to hit this drive about 290yds." Now, a 20hcp'er, who hits 3/10 balls solid, and those 3 balls average 290yds while the other 7 balls average 200yds, gets on the tee box. Would you bet this amateur is going to hit the ball 290? Or would you bet more around the 225yd mark? I'm not saying it's right or wrong to report on only solid shots, but, I think it helps put into perspective just how good the pros are.
  10. It seems as though people are only giving their average GOOD shot driving distance.
  11. I've always thought of a scratch golfer as someone who shoots right around par. I've never factored into the equation how far they can hit the ball. Scratch = par avg IMO.
  12. Check out foam rollers. I picked one up at Walmart for around $18. Get on youtube and search for exercises that target your specific area of need. I pulled something so bad in my lower back last year that I wanted a squad to come get me but didn't want to be moved, so I layed on the floor for 12 hrs straight. Then it was another full day before I could walk. I went and got a foam roller and in 2 weeks of stretching on it I was back in the gym. I still use it today on my entire back, legs and hips.
  13. Thanks for the welcomes! I'm nursing a strained hamstring so I haven't gotten to play much.
  14. Course management for me. Late last year I made rules up dictating what I hit off the tee based on the hole's distance (par 4's and 5's). Par 4's
  15. Just taking a second to introduce myself to the forum since I'm new here. I've played golf since age 4-5, competitively as a junior from 9-18 after which I got burnt out and all but hung it up after my senior year. Over the next 8yrs I played once or twice a summer until last year I got back into it. I'm 27 now and my goal this year is to have my first 18 hole round under par. I've had numerous sub par 9 hole rounds over the years but I could never put two good ones together. By the end of last year I was consistently shooting 2-4 over par on 18. My current sticks are pretty much what was hot in 2003, minus my driver: 913 D3 8.5 w/ diamana72 75g x stiff set down 1* and draw 1 notch. 980F 3 wood, stiff shaft, steel, I think it's an S300 2-7 iron Ping i3+ blades, stiff, 1" long, 4* upright 8-pw same, 3/4" long, 3* upright 54 and 58* M/B's, 3/4" long, 3* upright. and lastly a SC Studio Stainless Newport. I just ordered a X2 Hot 9* with the Aldila Tour Green X stiff, +1" to try out. Mainly looking for something longer and still controllable for when I play in scrambles. I'd really like to buy a long drive only driver but I'm not ready to invest that kind of money into something that isn't practical to use on the course. Might be in the market for a new 3 wood, too. Wedges are next to be addressed. I have a gap in yardage from 145-105 with my pw and 54*. I'm gonna try to get the 54* bent to 50*, the 58* bent to 60*, then pull the 2 iron and toss in a 56* I have. I understand the difficulty in bending heat treated cast irons so if it can't be done I'll be in the market for new ones. Driving distance on the course is normally in the 280-310 range swinging conservatively. I hit several 350+ last year when "going for it" and managed to get on in 2 on a 645yd hole we made up. I'm 6'3", 205lbs, workout 4-6 days a week. My swing speeds on two different simulators were 115 and 130mph. I tend to hit a lot of 3/4 irons so I'm not sure on exact distances. 2iron is normally 220-230, 5iron is 200ish, 7iron around 180 and so on. Anyways, looking forward to getting back into golf even more and learning more about what the current trends in golf are.
