  2. I have the same club and the same problem. It is difficult to look at the way it is made and not think of it as a wood instead of an iron. No matter what the length of the cut, hit down on it. Took me almost an entire summer to get that through my skill into the brain, even took it out of the bag. When I made the decision to hit it the way hybrids are made to be hit, it became a plus for my game.
  3. Have to remember to hit down on the hybrids, like an iron.
  4. Actually 10 days ago (last time I played). Shot 101 on Saturday and 104 on Sunday. Couldn't get tee in ground so I had a few "pop ups" which added at least one shot each time if it can be figured that simply. Probably more like 2-3 based upon club selection and how many shots it took to get "on". Played in SW Ohio. We are scheduled to open at the course I work at on March 1... Negative wind chill of 25 tonight and we have had 6-10 inches of snow since three days ago. Getting real itchy...
  5. Since my first reply, the issue of using illegal clubs in scrambles has come up. This summer, I saw a trend in scrambles that upsets me and goes in the same vein as using illegal clubs in scrambles. Since scrambles are normally money raising events, I am seeing those running the events selling tickets for "Mulligans". Those who buy the most "Mulligan Tickets" normally win the scramble. Where does it end? Whether it is an illegal club or a foursome has twenty extra shots, the integrity of the game comes into question. Find another way to raise money. I will not play in a scramble that sells the "Mulligan Tickets" because it brings in other issues such as betting. I don't mind a wager if it is my game against yours but not if you have twenty extra shots to buy your way to 15 under instead of 5 under. Again, where does it end? The shoe wedge? The hole in the pocket? Selective memory?
  6. No! I want my score compared to others using regulation equipment. In addition, I would call out anyone I would be playing against who would be playing an illegal club.
  7. I have changed from a slice to draw. First, I switched to the SLDR 460 off the Tee but that is only part of it since most of my shots are draws. I have worked on hitting to "right field". I am a righty. I also have moved the "V" formed by the thumb and index finger on my right hand grip so it follows a line up my right arm to my right shoulder. To give credit where credit is due, listening and watching Hank Haney has been a major factor.

  9. I have had the SLDR 460 for two weeks. Since I began using it, I have had more birdies than in the previous weeks that make up this golf season. I credit that to the additional distance off the tee that puts me closer to the green. I am sure that is due partially to all the reasons TM tells us but since I no longer slice the drive, the yardage I lost from the ball rolling perpendicular to the fairway is now down the fairway. I admit the first time I looked down at the club head, it was much different that what I was accustomed and the trajectory of the ball made me think I had popped it up. But when I got to the ball, I was a good 20 yards further than what I was accustomed to. I struggle with how high to set the ball on the tee but with trial and error, I am figuring that out. I am becoming more comfortable with teeing the ball up. (I would like to hear from others on that topic as well as the adjustments that can be made in general such as the slide) It comes with the slide set one notch toward Draw and that seems to be right for me. It has been a score changer for me. Hope that helps.
  10. :-) Sixty-eight years old and playing my second season of golf. Today, I made my first hole-in-one. 159 yards from Tee, over a pond with short Fairway. Hit an orange Bridgestone 6 with Adams 6 Hybrid. The ball hit short of the cup and went in on one bounce. Came close last year on same hole but stopped on the left lip of the cup. Had a bad case of the butterflies as I approached the Green with the ball nowhere in sight.
  11. A few weeks ago, I suggested a 3W would be more valuable if the loft was greater and I got several responses ranging from agreement to the idea that it was meant to be hit from a tee and not from the deck. I set about finding one that had a greater loft or one that could be adjusted. One reply asked if a 3W could be demoed and the answer is yes. One fitter also suggested that it was meant to be hit from a tee but that just didn't seem right although I know it is done and is a good answer to those who spray a driver. I found and adjustable one that adjusted for controlling the right to left drive as well as loft. By now you probably have figured out the one I am talking about. At first I did not like the feel of the demo but as I tried it a couple more times, it felt better and I ended up trading my X2Hot for it and while still playing with the adjustments, I am pleased with the results and between improving my driving and having a 3W and a 5W I can now hit and stay in the fairway, my scores have dropped and I no longer fear the long Par 4 or Par 5's. It was a good move for me but it does bring up another concern. All my other clubs are Hybrids which calls for a different type of swing which requires thinking about that when hitting the different clubs and spending time practicing both swings. Excluding irons and wedges, my bag includes Callaway X2Hot Driver, the aforementioned 3W, 5W, 3H, 4H, 5H and a 6H. I am now working on what must go because with the help of a Fitter and a tracking device, the distance from each does not warrant the presence of all of them. As I improve, I also find out what I used to hit an iron now is often rolling off the back of the green. It goes on and on and on.
  12. I have worked hard to hit the 3W to make it something more than a club to fill up a space in my bag. The same is true of the 5W. I have the Callaway X2 Hot and I hit the 5W much better than the 3W and I am sure it is due to the loft of the 5W. My thinking was if I could find a 3W with a higher loft, I would hit it much better. Callaway has several options but when I went to a well known franchise that sells and fits, I was told the 3W was more of an option to the driver and to not purchase one of the other Callaway options that could give me greater loft. I am still thinking greater loft on the 3W will enable me to hit it better off the turf. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  14. I played a tough course other than my home course. I only play this course a couple of times per year and I shot a 98. I shot a 53 on the front 9 and a 45 on the back 9. On my home course, I rarely shoot higher than the mid 80's and get down into the high 70's once a week. I work at my home course in SW Ohio and familiarity is certainly an advantage. Scoring is so short game dependent, knowing the speed of the greens and adapting to them accounts to the better second round scores. It is not uncommon for me.
