Mizuno JPX-800...Anyone have them?
grn.eyed.bandit replied to DannyB215's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thats weird that golfsmith wouldn't try to sell you their leftovers from last year. Total opposite from when i went to pro golf discount a few months back. I tried out both and it was quite similar, so the salesman was basically telling me to save my money and buy last years' mx300's as its pretty much the same club without the graphics...and he said if it was him, he'd buy the mx300 as it is forged as opposed to a cast club in the new jpx800. -
well, i'm a short guy(5'4") and noticed that i've been grounding the heel of my irons on all shots when i was in the simulator using the impact tape and board. the salesman says, "you need to cut your shafts half an inch. you can probably even go 1" since you choke down so much." so off i went. went home and decided to cut off an inch off my standard length irons. question is...did i mess it up? it might be in my head but when i took them to the range today, i feel as though i've lost some distance. i'm not 100% sure as i'm a new golfer and don't have my distances down to perfection yet, but is this a possible effect of cutting my shafts?

i go in pretty often, and tend to spend about 45mins in there. i usually go in to try out a bunch of different clubs on the simulator just for fun, or try something out that i'm eyeing on craigslist or ebay. i hardly ever buy any brand new clubs from them as the markup is so high, especially here in Canada. i just went in the other day and bought a demo R9 5wood, 9/10 condition for $75.

Do you match name brands in your bag?
grn.eyed.bandit replied to jmanbooyaa's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yes, I'm that horrible golfer who likes to match. I just think it looks neater while you're out there. I used to be ALL taylormade...hat, glove, bag, towel, driver, hybrid, irons, and putter. I have since sold my TM irons and went titleist, so i had the urge to go buy the hybrid aswell. I have a couple nickent clubs but only because they were hand-me-downs from my dad. -
"Buy NICE, not TWICE" ...or... "Pay a little bit now, or a lot more later" i have 3 pairs that i use on rotation. First pair was a relatively expensive nike shoe (~$170) that i use on "serious" rounds when with friends or if its wet, as they have the waterproof guarantee. The other 2 were cheap adidas (~$50) that i use when going to the range or for quick executive courses.

VR full cavity vs. G10 irons?
grn.eyed.bandit replied to grn.eyed.bandit's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks for all the replies guys. I ended up getting the VR's and used them at the range a bunch of times and just didn't really like them all that much so i returned them. I found a good deal on a set of titleist ap1 710's (reg nippon steel shaft)so i grabbed those and am so glad i did. i just love how they feel and i seem to be hitting them solid. i do need to get them fit properly still, as i'm choking down about an inch on each iron. -
What are your thoughts on these 2 irons? i'm a higher handicap i guess, avg scores of high 90's to 105's. i previously played TM burner xd's and liked them, but just wanted to try out something else. i've hit both, but i dont really know what i should be looking for. i noticed that with the g10 the ball goes up pretty high...is this a good or bad thing? just want some feedback.

yeah, i thought about getting my current irons fit properly, so i took them to the local golftown and they told me that since they are a cast iron, they cannot be bent, only forged irons can. he said i would have had to special order them made that way directly from taylormade when i bought them new. is there any truth to this...or is this his way of getting me to buy new?
-
here is my dillema...hopefully some of you more experienced golfers can point me in the right direction. there was a mizuno club fitting at a local range yesterday, so i decided to go and check it out, as i've been eyeing the mx-200 irons for a while now. anyways, i was so embarassed because i could not hit a good shot for the life of me, needless to say they were having a difficult time fitting me. in the end, they told me i needed to shorten the length by a half inch and flatten the lie by 2 degrees (yeah, i'm 5'4"...) right now, i play a standard set of '08 TM burner xd irons. only thing is, i notice the toe sticks way up at address, even if i choke down by an inch. so what do you guys think would be more beneficial? get lessons and continue with my ill-fitting irons, or get the proper fitted irons and get tips here and there by other people until i can afford proper lessons? thanks a bunch.

I found the set of irons i want on ebay ('08 TM R7 cgb max) and wondered how the seller can sell them at less than half price of new, so i asked him about their authenticity. Here is what he responded with: Hello, I get the Irons from a wholesaler who assembles them overseas, where as Taylormade has the parts sent to the USA and then assembles them there, which the label on each Iron confirms (picture available). At some point between when the parts are manufactured to when it's assembled and sent off to their distributor(s), they register the serial number into their database. Since this is NOT assembled in the USA, I'm pretty sure that they will not verify it's "authenticity" because what I'm doing, is cutting them out. Hence, why I can sell way below their distributors price (golf town's of the world for example). I know this isn't exactly what you wanted to hear, but that's how they get you, by putting the fear of god into you until you feel you have to pay their ridiculous retail pricing. As you can see by my feedback, I stand behind my product and my service. So if you are not satisfied with this transaction, per my listing, I have a NO QUESTIONS asked, 7 day return policy, as long as the Irons are not damaged and in unused condition. what do you guys think? is this legit, or should i just keep looking for another set? any help or advise would be great!

taylormade burner xd steel shaft irons from the golftown demo sale for $650 cdn...never hit, display model only. -
well, i just got into golfing this year, and got bit by the bug real hard! i'm horrible, but i still love the game, even after shooting 115 the other day. i'm still trying to talk my wife into at least trying the game out with me, as i feel its a game we can play together for a lifetime. she hates the fact that i spend so much on the sport, but she wants me to buy her some cheap clubs...nothing fancy. what are your guys thoughts on some of the "all inclusive" sets? she found a full set w/ driver, woods, hybrids, irons, putter and bag (i think the brand was founder's club) for something like $250 cdn. i'd really like to get her some nice callaways or tm, but she doesnt want them as she might not even like the sport. what do you guys suggest?

i'm a nurse that works 2 days and 2 nights (12 hrs), then i get 5 days off. so there's potential to play on either morning before nightshifts, then on each of the days off.

probably a basic question, but what should I have in my bag? I dont know what the difference is between a fairway wood, hybrid, and which ones to get (all the different lofts). right now, all i have in my bag is a driver, #3 hybrid, 3-pw, and a putter
-
i'm a new golfer and was wondering if this is a workable driver for me that i bought for cheap. its a taylormade burner tp driver, 10.5 degree loft. the shaft says "flex X" and i'm guessing the 65 is the weight in grams? when i looked at the TM website, it says the driver is for "skilled players", so that kinda scared me off. anyways, what are your thoughts?

130 for a pair of nikes. i think they make a big difference comfort-wise cuz i also got another pair of nikes that were only $30 and by the 5th hole my feet were killing me!
