  1. I wonder if anyone has any experience with the Bobby Jones hybrids ( http://www.bobbyjonesgolf.com/)? They have a different design, actually looks more like a fairway wood then a hybrid. Does anyone have any experience with them, good or bad? Thanks.
  2. Play 18 holes More - I'm relatively new to golf but should be scoring better then I am. I believe this is largely due to the fact that I play with my wife, which I love to do but this means we only play 9 holes, and rarely get enough warm up time. So my goal is to continue to play with my wife but look for 2 opportunities each month to get out for 18, possible with one of my friends. Practice more - but use driving range mats less. I love to practice but I don't get enough feedback from a driving range mat and I don't realize my faults until I'm on the course. There is a grass range a little farther away that should be getting more of my practice time. Improve Up and Down Percentage - Work on short game and improve this statistic to 50%. This would have a dramatic impact on my game. Scoring Goals - Break 90 at least once and consistently score in the 90s. As I mentioned I'm a newbie. I would love to decrease my handicap to around 20. That would be a successfully year for me! I think those are realistic goals. Have fun!
  3. I saw the opening show last night and I have to say it was very entertaining. Don't get me wrong, I've seen many of the other shows but since everyone already knows everyone else, there seems to be much more camaraderie, right off the bat. Dave, is a funny guy. Nikki, seems to be searching for love more then an LPGA opportunity. Kelly, is still the coach (whether people want him to be or not). And so on. I didn't see the very beginning but it is quite interesting to see who got paired together. How was that decided? So what do you think? Do you think this will be the best one yet? Or maybe you could case less. I'm interested.
  4. I agree that I would prefer if Michelle wasn't playing in men's tournaments but she isn't the problem. She shouldn't get the television coverage that she is getting unless she is competitive. I think this would fall off of all our radar screens if she was treated like all of the other competitors and covered only if she was a factor. I guess the other point that could be made is against sponsor exemptions but then you wouldn't have Daly in the field this week either.
  5. How about Mexico? Has anyone golfed there in the winter? What did you think? Would you recommend any particular places. Thanks!
  6. Thank you for the responses. I will check out Myrtle Beach and AZ. Thanks!
  7. I live in the Northeast, NY to be exact, and it is getting close to the end of the golf season. My wife and I play golf together and we were talking about a possible get away or two over the winter to play golf. This would likely be for a long weekend so the length of travel time is important. We have gone to Florida and Bermuda in the past and enjoyed ourselves but I thought I would ask if anyone has other recommendations. Thanks for your suggestions!
  8. Don't do it (cheat your butt off). I can't imagine being able to still have fun when you know it is all a lie.
  9. I was really hoping someone would step up and deliver and it looked like Monty was going to be the man. Before his long birdie on 17, he had two make able birdie tries on 15 and 16, he missed both of them. Obviously his drive on 18th kept the hope alive. It turned out that Vijay was a factor. The long delay caused by his tee shot going into the hospitality tent made Monty change clubs (he would say later that it was due to additional addreline which causes him to hit the ball about 10 yards farther). Unfortunately he hit it fat and the rest is history. Congratulations Oglivy.
  10. Thank you very much for your replies. I know I tend to over analyze. This said, I do have a follow up question. Hope this isn't a stupid one. I put the ball up in my stance for my 3 and 4 iron as well as for my fairway wood. As I understand I should be hitting slightly down on the ball with the 3/4 iron but not with the wood. Is that right? I ask because this year I'm hitting my 3/4 iron well (for me) but can't seem to hit my 5 wood consistently. Please note, Chas is right, I don't tend to take much of a divot on most shots. Although my short irons tend to be my most consistent clubs.
  11. I apologize I posted before completing my question. Please see second thread that I accidentally created. Sorry.
  12. I was hoping to get some help since my pro doesn't return for the season until next month. I am a new golfer and it seems like I've always struggled with the different angle of attack for an iron in comparison to a wood. This year I've gotten to the point where I only use my irons, typically teeing off with a 3 or 4 iron, due to a lack of confidence in my 5 wood. Please note (I don't yet own a driver or 3 wood. This is based upon recommendations from others.) I actually haven't played bad this year but I obviously don't have the distance that I really need. As I understand, please correct me if I'm wrong, one should hit down and through when using an iron. While with a wood, the path is more horizantal (swing image: striking a nail into the back of the ball). Finally I also understand that the angle of attack would be from below (upwards) when utiling a wood to hit a ball on a tee. Is this all correct? If so, how can I ensure a smoother swing transition from wood to iron? Or is it something I just need to practice?
