  1. I sense the sarcasm... and I mentioned I go to the gym because people wonder if lifting weights and strength training has any bearing on the distance of their drive... duh? And yes I have entered one with a 334 yard drive. Just because I can hit a long drive doesn't make me a scratch golfer either. My handicap is a 12 because I need help on my accuracy with my irons as well as with the putter. And don't worry about my game, I just started playing last summer. Figured I'd catch some flack for saying that I can hit a ball 320 so I'll take some video this weekend if it doesn't rain with some of my drives. Regards
  2. The one's I just bought :) Wilson Staff Ci7
  3. I'd say I fit into the 321+ range. I will have to take some video this weekend since I'm taking my girlfriend out with me so she can take it while I hit my drive. I have a slight fade/slice so sometimes my shorter drives will hit 285-300 but for the most part on any par 5 on a level surface i'll hit it 320-340. I also threw the 35lb weight and hammer in college so it helped with the strength, flexibility and using my hips and legs rather than arms. Although I personally don't think it matters as much as some might think (I've seen guys much smaller than me hit a drive just as far) I am fairly heavy into lifting and running. (350 bench, 245 clean, 420 squat)
  4. Yeah i always play by myself, probably 2/3 of the time. I enjoy it, it's a good stress reliever when I get out of work and I can try out new things while I'm out. I can hit a few extra balls, work on some chipping if nobody is behind me and putt a few extra as well. Usually i do it because I don't have many friends who enjoy golf like I do, or if they do they want to out to drive the cart and drink beer. I prefer to walk whether I'm by myself or playing with others.... just play better when I do.
  5. I never thought about my actual grip, but it contributed to many of my wicked slices and off center shots. I was gripping with my left hand much tighter and tightly interlocked with my right than i should have which caused my right hand to turn the club face over and slice (I'm a rightie). I did some simple corrections to my grip by watching videos online and reading others and now I can smack a ball straight with a slight left to right fade. Start your drives out with a less aggressive swing until you're comfortable with that club. Switching drivers every round will not help your situation at all! You need to stick to one driver and get used to its length, weight, etc.
  6. Driver: 300-330 3 wood: Don't use one 3 Iron: 230 7 Iron: 175-180 8 Iron: 160-165
  7. The guy shouldn't have even teed off unless you were a) on the green and he knows he can't reach you or b) waited for you to finish the hole Luckily it wasn't me because I have the temper of a hot headed irishman and it could've escalated into a physical argument. You did the right thing though, don't feel guilty of anything
  8. I really really like my Wilson Ci7 irons. I know the Wilson name doesn't get much attention in the golf world but I've tried a lot of irons either through friends or in store. I can say if you're a mid handicapper and want solid control and feedback, these are awesome. I played an old Hogan set before these that were good to learn with but very unforgiving and outdated. But if you get a chance, go swing the clubs, check on reviews online and remember, it's not always the club :) As for the Ci7's I got them cheap, $330 brand new with the steel shafts and I couldn't be happier.
  9. I'm looking for a good ball to hit now that I am hitting the ball straighter and not losing as many. Previously I would just hit balls that I either found in the bushes or were given a sleeve of for scramble tourneys. Never hit any ball consistently although I found I liked Tietlist and Nike balls. I would say I'm a long hitter, I threw hammer and shotput in college so luckily I learned to use my hips and legs when I swing rather than arm speed. I hit a drive around 300-330 on average (older Taylor Made r5), my 8 iron about 160 and my 5 iron about 200 yards. Most of my shots go left to right or start striaght and tail a bit to the right. I hit wilson ci7 irons with stiff shaft. I can stick a ball pretty good on the greens with just about any ball. So i'm looking for a modestly priced ball with more control to it than distance and one that will be good to putt with. I struggle at times with putting consistency. Thanks
  10. shot an 85 yesterday and 88 today with my new Wilson Ci7 decent scores, but both at courses i've never played at before and with new irons that I didn't get to try out before playing :) loving the irons though, highly recommend to ci7 for the mid handicapper looking for some more control and feel
