  1. First, I'm not a great golfer, but in general a good athlete. The only GI irons I've ever hit that felt good were the original callaway big bertha. I know testing shows thar GI irons are more forgiving, but how forgiving? I don't think much. Mishits go a couple yards further than blades. You have to hit it on the nose with any club. So mostly I golf wilson blades and do OK. I like the better feel and increased short iron accuracy I have. I have a feeling as pros seem to switch to cavity backs that it might be marketing. They can play anything, and if a 6 figure check is wrapped around a shaft what the heck. Anyway it seems to me marketing is the main reason for most golf stuff. So I hit what I want because nobody in their right mind would give me a nickel for playing golf.
  2. Thanks for the info. I'm about once a week with the 100 mgs, sometimes less.
  3. Could anyone tell me the best ball for hickory clubs? I've been playing wilson duo but read that prov1 is OK too. But it is harder. Would it damage clubs? And if anyone knows, how hard were the old gutta balls? Topflite like, or wilson duo like? Thanks
  4. I'm an older golfer. Injured my knee so I take 100 mgs junior motrin before a round, sometimes, and i can go around pain free like i'm 18 again. I'm sort of leery of meds and side effects but i'm told such a low dose causes no problems.
  5. Snow easy. Once played in an ice storm. Great driver distance on roll. After two holes i left my brother in law out there by himself.
  6. Found an old beater set of Sam Snead blue ridge irons in my father in laws shop. Old, rusty and the cheapest shafts I've ever seen, so took them for 9. I'm a ping isi guy so that's the comparison, Past the 7 iron they were fairly bad, but short irons were OK. Longer irons were probably my fault and would need to practice with them. They did hit shorter, even on the sweet spot. I began to sense a better feel with the old Sam's after a couple holes. I think i would lose a few strokes a side even if i got in tune with them, but cheap isn't that bad. There was a pro tennis player back in the day that would challenge players using the best equipment to a match while he used a sawed off broom, and he would beat them. A lesson there somewhere.
  7. I can't hit my wilson fg51's as far as my pings, but it's not how far you hit irons ists hoe accurate you are. My pitching wedge on a cold northwest day is enough to embarrass the hell out of me until it stops within 3 feet. The irons are also shorter. I'm average distance with pings and ti driver, but i don't mind being. shorter
  8. Golf with wilson fg51 blades and persimmon woods (3 and 5) but use a louisville golf persimmon driver with a graphite shaft. My normal clubs are ping isi irons, ping g15 driver, cleveland 5 metal, callaway 3 metal. Oddly my best scores have been with the old blades and woods. Sometimes even hit the persimmon driver farther, but am under no delusions about it being the longest driver. I think with the simple blades sitting square and having no distracting shapes you hit solid more times. Think the new clubs confuse my somewhat simple brain. Anyway, love the old clubs and may play a whole season with them next year. Kind of a history guy, but think they sound wonderful compared to "modern clubs".
  9. Tiger seems to have become way more streaky than any current PGA golfer. The Irish guy wins this one.
