  1. I also recommend talking to Adams. I am using my friends old Adams A2 driver. On the 14th hole the head went flying almost as far as the ball off the tee. The hosel was still attached to the shaft and there was a clean break right where the head connects to the shaft. I was really bummed thinking I would need to replace that club as well as finally getting myself a driver. I took it to golfsmith to see what it would cost to put a new shaft in. One of the guys thought I should try sending it in, thinking that I would get a better result from Adams replacing the shaft as well as it might be cheaper. Golfsmith covered the shipping there and back. It took three weeks but when it came back Adams had replaced the shaft, new grip and polished the head to almost new all for the very reasonable cost of FREE! I couldn't believe it no charge at all. And that was for a club I had no receipt for; it had been purchased a couple years ago by my friend. If you have Golfsmith or something similar I would take it in and ask them to look at it. If it is not cosmetic maybe you can ask them to send it in for you.
  2. thank you for all of the suggestions. i've forwarded them on to the guy with the logo and the host. it looks like we will have something after all. thank you very much!
  3. a buddy of mine is hosting a bachelor's party for another buddy. most of the guys going play on the same hockey team and one guy thought maybe we should get golf towels with our logo to commemorate the occasion. to help him out i looked into it a little on line but didn't find anything that wouldn't require printing 50+ or a huge set-up fee. the other problem is the host thought of this yesterday and the bachelor's party is in three weeks, so there isn't a lot of time for somebody to actually get the work done. we probably have about 15 guys going. has anyone done anything like this, know a place that might be able to help us out, or have a different idea that might work instead. appreciate any help you might have. thanks.
  4. Hi all. I am pretty new to golf and would like to start some golf lessons. I have been involved in sports my whole life and am fairly athletic, although some of my other sports lead to bad golf habits. Right now I would like to work on my golf swing, but would also be interested in spending a lesson or half a lesson here or there working on putting, chipping and pitching. Would anyone in Los Angeles be willing to recommend their teaching pro? If not, how do I go about finding a pro? I know they are in all the pro shops and driving ranges, but how do I determine if they are any good or right for me? I live in Hollywood and work in Torrance. I'm looking for something once a month or maybe once every two weeks. Thanks.
  5. Dude! (I can say that because I am a native.) I hope your move to California works out for you. I think there is a lot more upside for you in California. I am an architect living and working in Los Angeles. Now I've lived here, went to school here and worked here for most of my life so I might have gotten a little to much sun to the brain causing me to see things so rosy, however my network is pretty large and colleagues of mine working in different towns just don't seem to have the opportunities that I have here. The only thing you have to come to grips with here is being a little fish in a big pond. There are so many people who do what you do out here that it becomes very difficult for even the stars to shine. But if you don't care about being a big fish in a little pond then Southern California has a lot to offer...socially, culturally, even economically. Yeah there is probably a lot of smog, but it isn't as bad as it was in the 80s, and there is a lot of traffic (keeps getting worse as population grows and public transportation struggle (struggle is probably putting it nicely) to adapt. We have other problems as well, but who doesn't. Just think it is the first week in December and I am going to play golf this weekend in shorts and a t-shirt. Best of luck!

32 years old. just started playing a couple of months ago.
  7. i am a real beginner when it comes to golf (i am answering this question in self-interest because i am trying to build posting credits to be able to ask newbie questions about golf, practice and the equipment in the forum). i don't own clubs and just began taking group classes a month ago. i try to practice all of the aspects i have learned in class at least twice a week outside of class. i spend most of my time chipping and putting, have only been on the driving range a hand full of times and most of that has been hitting a 7 iron. i hit a driver for the first time last tuesday, but probably only spent a third of my bucket with the driver. i have played an executive par 3 course once and today for the first time went out with two other friends to play a full 18 hole golf course. just going to take a quick break here and say that i have competed in various sports from 4 years old through college. i understand the integrity of the game and that it is the rules and penalties for breaking those rules that shape the game. that said there are also times where i am playing those same games with or against friends outside of competition and the rules change; penalties, fouls, even out of bounds can go out the window. whatever helps increase our enjoyment for the game and the time spent with our friends. so back to today. i didn't keep score for most of the holes and some i would have lost count of anyways (got caught in the sand a couple of times), but best believe that i know when i parred a hole (and i was even proud of a few bogeys). there were times today when the tee shot was straight down the fairway, others when it went left or right, straight up in the air or two feet in front of me. some of those times i would take a second or even third tee shot (after that i still dropped next to the next worse ball on a hole). we weren't holding anyone up so what is the rush. i had some amazing second and third shots and a couple that went into the woods, the water or some other place i hadn't intended, if it was playable i would play it, but i even hit some provisional balls then. on and around the green we played it where it was (hit a couple great putts, missed a couple of gimmes). i tried to hit out of the sand traps as many times as it took me to do so (one great shot out and three feet from the hole, and sometimes i felt like i was going to have to re-rake the entire trap). sometimes my friends didn't feel like playing out of the sand (it didn't have any effect on my game). at the end of the day i got some sun, hung out with friends, learned about life insurance, learned that i need to get away from my fear of messing up the course and try to hit down on the ball more even if that means taking a piece of turf with it, i lost 10 balls (which makes me pretty happy because i brought 24 with me and was prepared to lose every one of them). do i have my handicap accurately calculated? nope. do i care? nope. did i pay attention when the marshall told us that the while tees have a ____ slope rating? obviously not. i'm not saying i won't want to get there, but today was about playing and not competing and i can't wait to get on the course again.
  8. i'm an architect in los angeles. i've loved and played sports my whole life. i played soccer and basaeball competitively through high school, and ice hockey through college. i never really liked watching golf on television so i never cared to try playing it. a little over a month ago i played with a friend for the first time, and i signed up for group classes the next week. i thought it would be best to start with some lessons because i have a lot of hockey/baseball mechanics that i need to unlearn in my swing.
