  1. Well, it seems as though I can't get the home trial to work. Too bad. Any others?
  2. Any tips for me? I've been searching online and haven't come up with much. Just looking for a relatively user friendly swing analysis program Has anyone tried V1 Golf Academy? Thanks
  3. I haven't really tried anything yet. I was hitting them GREAT last week and then this week I've been hitting the worst that I ever have. I'm gonna go to the range tomorrow and try some things out. Might see if I can stack and tilt.
  4. If I don't shank my irons they are usually very straight. If I don't get a good strike with my driver it will slice a little bit.
  5. Are the distance measuring capabilities on those indoor simulators accurate? If they are I'm going to go with a video camera and show all you doubters that an 18+ handicap can hit 300+. You guys need to remember that most golfers aren't exactly the most athletic and in peak physical condition. I also doubt many of the guys on tour do heavy squats, dealift and jerks. These things build explosive power and that's probably why I can hit so far. There is a reason that powerlifters are some of the fastest runners in the world in short distances. Explosive, fast twitch power. Why is my handicap still 18+ if I can hit 300+? The explanation is pretty simple: I can't hit irons, my short game sucks and I'm a pretty bad putter. If anyone has a good way for me to prove my distance I'd love to hear it.
  6. Believe what you want, it makes no difference to me. But about your other comment, I usually play city courses, and usually executive courses at that. The two 9 hole courses I frequent the most only have 2 holes where a driver is needed. a 305 and a 290-something. There are also plenty 150-250 yard holes on the courses I play. Even if I didn't need them, which I do, why wouldn't I want to get better?
  7. I haven't had my swing speed checked but I'm certain of distance. I no-hopped a green at 305 whole last night with the green being probably 35-50 vertical feet higher than the tee box. I've also used my clubhouses range finder to double check some distances at the range as sometimes their posted measurements are suspicious. When I strike them well they do what they're supposed to. It's just that my head screws with me and I'm not really sure about the proper swing. This leads to inconsistencies and shanks. With the driver I don't really think about anything, I just let'er rip. I'm thinking about just ponying up and paying for a brief lesson or three.
  8. I'm not sure on the swing speed. I know I swing way faster with my driver. I've been trying to just make a nice smooth iron swing to help with accuracy. The shaft on my driver is the stock "S" shaft for the R5, I'm assuming that means stiff. For my irons I'm forced to used crappy graphite until I can afford some nicer clubs. I'll be getting steel when I do get something new. So, by your advice the only thing different is ball placement, is that front and back only or also how far away I am from the ball? When I use a driver I stand much farther away from the ball. I think part of my problem is I just don't know where to stand for iron shots.
  9. I've recently because quite proficient at hitting my driver. Usually carrying about 310-320 and sometimes beyond. Before this improvement, irons were my best, and basically any of them. Not so anymore. While I know the general things that cause me problems (dropping shoulder, popping up hips) I still don't really know what a good iron swing looks like or is made up of. If anyone has a great step by step video or website about hitting say a 4 or 5 iron, I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks
  10. Today I tried some forged cavity back mizunos, nike cci and x20. The mizunos were by far my favorite, such a sweet and feel good strike. I am really terrible at hitting off of those indoor mats though. I actually snapped a head off of an X20. Supposedly the cavity back forgeds are easier to control because they aren't blades. Do you guys think that I might be able to get away with forged because of this?
  11. Are those services free? About the callaways, I was looking at the 18s because they're a lot cheaper right now as opposed to the 20s. I'm still in college and thusly, broke.
  12. Thank you for your response. How should I go about demoing? Do places let you hand over a drivers license and take a set for a few hours or is it mostly the in store type thing? Are golf galaxy and golfsmith alright places to do this or would proshops be better?
  13. Hey there, new member here. I'd like some help finding a good iron set for me. The salesmen at the local golf shops don't seem to be much help, or very knowledgeable. I guess a little about me would help. I haven't played many rounds this summer (or ever) but I've been practicing several days a week. I would consider myself a mid handicap player even though I haven't played much. Probably a +18. I'm a strong guy and assume I have fast club head speed. I bought a used R5 driver that came with a standard shaft and I'm consistently hitting it 320+ (according to range finder) The biggest issue I face when hitting irons is mild slice and just getting a clean strike. The irons that I'm unfortunately using right now are about 8 year old spauldings that came as a complete set. Age: 21 Height: 5'10 Weight: 210 Level of play: intermediate, average 5 iron 200+ carry Handicap: estimated +18 So I guess what I'm looking for is some advice as to what I should pursue. I feel like I'm progressing very quickly so I want an iron that I will be able to grow into, not something that will be good for me now, but too intermediate for me next year. I *think* I want steel shaft just because of torsion from swing speed. I've been thinking about x-18 by Callaway. I've heard good things about these from friends but am unsure if they would be good for me. If there's any other pertinent information that would help you all, please let me know. Best Tyler
  14. I have only played about 3 times this summer but am practicing probably 5 days a week. Unbelievable improvements for me. Almost enough confidence to move to course full time. HA

  16. IMO he would have been on an big upswing as far as confidece goes. If he was a little healthier I'd say 50% chance he would have done it.
