    Off the tee blues

Maybe so. I do have a tendency to try to kill the ball.
  2. My frustration level was very high today. I have been having a terrible time off the tee lately. So I decided today to keep the driver in my bag and hit a 3 iron off the tee. But I'll be damn if I didn't push everything off to the right. And just enough to sit in the trees. The course I mostly play is relatively easy, except it has a lot of trees. And under the tress is loose pine straw. Total pain to hit off of. So if you stay in the fairway off the tee, you can do well. Otherwise.... So anyway, I gave up about 50 yards off the tee to stay in the fairway, and %$#$%!!@@####!! Afterward I hit another bucket of balls in the range and hit it straight. So there's my post golf venting for the day. I hope everyone enjoyed it.
  3. welcome to the forum.
  4. Oh, I can hit the ball 300 yards. As long as you don't expect it to be in the fairway. As far as lying sports accomplishments, don't forget about fishing lies. Those are some of the biggest lies of all. If you count fishing as a sport, which I do.
  5. I just purchased a book "The Physics of Golf" by Theodore P. Jorgensen. I don't have a strong physics background, so it will probably take me a while to get through it. The reason I purchased the book is to reserach a formula for estimating, based on several variables, the distance a ball travels when hit. So far it seems that appendex 3 is promising. We shall see. If anyone knows such a formula, it would save me some time. Thanks.

  8. I would buy 20 million lottery tickets. Or not.
  9. Thanks.
  10. I just picked up a new Nike 2 iron on clearance for $9.99 plus $6 shipping. I got it for the old man who has a set of Nike clubs and likes the long irons. Is it OK to say where I got the club from? Or would this violate forum rules? Anyway, it's a well known golf merchant. It is listed as Nike "CCI". Is this a good variety of Nike club? The regular price is $89.99, but you know how that goes.
  11. I'll check that out Jess. Scottsboro is about 45 minute drive, I think.
  12. Oh, I bet you guys see a lot of funny stuff. You should set up a video camera one day, catch some of these temper tantrums on tape, and post it to youtube.
  13. I saw the thread on "hitting into the drink". Which I thought was odd, as I'm sure anyone who has played at least a couple of rounds has hit into the water. But I was wondering how many here would confess to throwing a club into the 'drink'? If so, which club and why? Myself, a 9 iron about 15 years ago. It was on a par 4 and from the tee, the "drink" (lol) was to the right and about 120 yards in front of the green. But it was not really in play unless you sliced your tee shot. Which I did. But the ball somehow managed to stay just on the edge of the water, and I really wound up with a decent 2nd shot back over the water to the green. IIRC, I was having a rather frustrating round and I was thinking of how lucky I was not to be in the water. So then I topped the next shot into the water. My buddies laughed. I flung that 9 iron halfway across that pond. When it made a big splash, several people playing the other hole stopped and looked at me like I had lost my mind. It was a stupid thing to do, no doubt. But hey, at least I was playing with some cheap clubs at the time.
  14. Oh that would have pissed me off too, Big_M. Especially the thing with the eagle putt. And especially since I only get an eagle putt about 3 times a year.
  15. Wow, a lot of Bama folks here. I'm in Northeast Alabama myself. Right around Anniston.
