  1. Having a plant that offers no advantage to sports, banned in sports, makes no sense. Making a plant illegal also makes no sense to me. Apparently one that does so many things. I use hemp protein for lifting. Its cheap, is a complete protein, is usda organic, and is actually healthy. I know hemp can be used to make clothes, paper, etc. Why its banned is beyond me. Just another form of gov control.
  2. Gotcha. Thanks guys. I will start just hitting two shots, which makes sense and then take the penalty strokes. If I have to drop I will also take the 2 strokes.
  3. When I am playing with friends I usually look for my ball for a few minutes. If I do not find it I simply drop a ball around where I am looking (in bounds of course) and take a penalty stroke for the drop. Is this correct? I am reading in the rules that I should technically be going back and rehitting the shot but I am not sure I can do this due to lack of time, people waiting on the tee, etc. So am I cheating my self/score? What do you all do in this situation.
  4. wow girls must be a lot different than boys. I have a 2 yr old and 4 year old (both boys) and if I brought them to a putting green they would fill up the holes with dirt and rip apart the grass. If I gave them access to clubs/balls they would hit each other with them, hit the green, and throw the balls at people and buildings....haha. I have a pond in my backyard so I take them fishing sometimes, their attention span is about 2 mins max and then they throw the bait in the water at the fish.
  5. thanks for the advice. I went to dicks sporting goods to check them out and picked up a new top flite one for $26 on sale, which was too hard to pass up for a new club.
  6. I have read a few places that the one club you do not want to buy used is your sandwedge. Is this true or am I just reading BS? I ask because if I can buy used I will. otherwise i will probably just pick up a new top flite wedge from dicks for like $29.
  7. I bought the set in my signature for around $400-450. I bought the taylormade 2.0 irons new from dicks for $299 and the other clubs on ebay for $25-$40 with shipping. I would definitely go used and get good clubs. I was debating the calloway strata like you were and am much happier now that I made this choice because I know I will not outgrow these in a season or two. A few pieces of advice on buying used though - research 1-2 brands of clubs that you want and just search those specifically. I knew I wanted ping so I figured out the beginner ping clubs and just looked for those models. Also, only buy from reputable sellers on ebay so you dont get fake stuff. Just look at their feedback, see if they are certified to sell the stuff, etc.
  8. Are there any great free online tutorials that you guys can recommend for that perfect drive? I either duff the ball, hook it, or slice it - and mostly I hook it. At the range I will hit maybe 1 in 30 correctly. I am signed up for private lessons but they do not start for another few weeks. There are tons and tons of youtube videos but I do not have the expertise to let me know if the person who made the video is right or not, thus I am asking for help:) Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the tip. I have bought a few dozen new balls for the course. The used ones I bought are perfect though - I bought a net from amazon and have been hitting them in the backyard.
  10. Haha that's awesome. I definitely have a bunch of them hidden in my parents attic or garage.
  11. Thanks for the advice. I am going to check it out today.
  12. Yea I would not mind having a 3w and 5w but I was not sure if they were replaced with the newer hybrids. Right now I just have a driver and 3hybrid. I used to drive with my 3w when I was a kid and use it on the fairway all the time
  13. I was thinking of a 5w but was under the impression people were not using fairway woods anymore?
  14. I went to dicks and tried out all of their bags. I am glad I tried them too. I ended up getting the callaway chevron stand bag in black. It was on sale for $130, although I went for features/comfort and not the price. I really liked it the best out of all the bags. I debated between that and a nike bag that felt really good too. The taylormade, ogio, and titleist did not feel as good to me. They all seemed like good bags but the chevron and nike just stood out compared the rest once i tried them all.
  15. And just to add I am looking at both Dicks sporting goods and golfsmith but have no clue what to get. I dont care about brands at all unless they are sponsoring me, i just want a good bag:)
  16. I am new, just put together set of clubs and now I need a bag. I see there are several different types. Is there just a standard bag type that could be used for everything? I imagine I will be walking on nice days to get the exercise and getting a cart when I am with my buddies. I see there are cart bags, carry bags, stand bags, etc. Is there something that just works fine whether I carry or use the cart?
  17. Thanks for the help. I picked up these 110 balls just to have extras. I will pick up some new balls as well, still not sure what to buy. When I was a kid all I used were the multicolored pings and pinnacle gold. Ping doesnt even make balls anymore and there are like 50 brands at Dicks.
  18. Any suggestions on brands for a beginner? Should I be looking used? I picked up 50 titleist DT solo and 60 nike mojo for $40 shipped. I got these just to get me started and to have a bunch of spares. Not sure it was even a good deal or if these are ok balls for me.
  19. My set is put together. I have tried numerous clubs and ended up going with Ping and Taylormade...now I need to buy a bag. I hope I can find one with no brand name on it. Driver - Ping G15 12 degree loft, regular length/flex - used Hybrid 3 iron - Ping G15 - used Irons 4-PW - taylormade burner 2.0 - new Putter - Ping Anser Putter - used total was about $450.
  20. Ended up buying the TaylorMade Burner 2.0 Irons new from Dicks. they were $299 new. I have hit a few sets and these have been the best for both drivers and irons. Now I need to go back to my local golf shop and buy the used taylormade driver. Now I just need to find a hybrid. Thanks for all of the help. I am glad I went this route instead of a cheap set to start.
  21. Went to a store and hit a few drivers. I loved the taylormade burner driver. Need to do the same with irons now.
  22. Thanks for all of the advice. I live in wilmington nc and have a few good shops that I am going to check out to see what they have in stock. i am also going to stop by dicks today to see what they have.
  23. For example, here is a set that seems like it would work: http://www.callawaygolfpreowned.com/ping-g15-irons-2009/ping-g15-irons-2009,default,pd.html
  24. I have been looking around ebay and found a few ping iron sets (g15 and g20) for around $170 used in decent condition. Are those good prices? I am still torn if I should just go new with a cheaper topflite set or just build one. I always loved pings as a kid and from my bit of research they still seem like a solid brand, which is why I was looking at them. My spending limit for this set is probably around $350-400 total. I would rather spend less though and the topflite is only 200 new with a bag and all the clubs I need.
  25. My story: I played golf from about the age of 6-18, playing many tournaments, and shot around 90-110 depending on the course. I loved golf and played all the time. I took tons of lessons and traveled all around the northeast playing many different courses. Then I quit. I havent played for 18 years. I went out a few weeks ago on a par 3 course with my wife and honestly couldnt even hit the ball. It was terrible. So I am a beginner again, although I remember what I am supposed to be doing, I just cannot do it. Anyway, I want to get back in the game as I now have the time. So...I am looking for a set of beginner clubs that will last me 1-2 years. something that I can beat up and have fun with. I hope to stick to the game this time around but who knows, so I do not want to spend a lot of money. And I am going to take a few lessons to make sure I remember what I am supposed to be doing. Anyway, here is what I have been considering... 1. Get a used set from ebay/craigslist - after doing some research I do not think I want to go this route. I have no idea what brands are good and there seems to be a lot of things that I do not understand like flex, angle, etc. And I think I want new. 2. Get a new set from a store like Dicks - the top flite XL set seems like a good option 3. Piecing together a new set of maybe a 1w, 5w, hybrid, 5, 7, 9, PW. Any thoughts? Also I am left handed so used sets seems to be harder to find.
