  1. Wilson Zip is a great ball for the money. Low compression is especially nice for cooler weather play :)
  2. I have an extra tm adjustable shaft tip. Bought it on eBay and can have extra shafts set up with grip ready to bolt in. I will try adjusting setup to upright position to get more height. I really think a shaft more suited to my swing would be better than adjusting my swing when I hit the r7 nicely. Wish I hadn't sold it before buying this r9
  3. I have a 85-90 mph swingspeed and drive the ball apprx 215 yds. I bought a 9.5 degree regular shaft r9, set up L with heavy weight on left side ( promoting a draw) I hit the ball straight with slight fade, but can't get the ball into air and have very little carry, but lots of ground roll. My old R7 draw with reg shaft 10.5 had a much better ball flight. Should I look to trade the 9.5 head for a 10.5 or change r9 shaft? And if change shaft, what would be a good recommendation? Thanks
  4. Same thing was happening to me. It was extremely frustrating missing even the shortest of putts. Turns out it was because I am very right eye dominant, and even when I would mark line on my balls, line the ball up, I still wouldn't trust it. I was advised to try putting left handed, and now I am putting 1000% better. I am right handed, play right handed and putt lefty now. Its more common than you may think.
  5. I think they are right on.... I took it with me to a golf galaxy once when taking a lesson and it matched within 1mph of what their ss monitor said on every cut. It uses a doppler radar just like dick's in house monitor. I took it with me, because I thought it read too low because all I could get ( before lessons ) was 83-84 mph. Their pro took some cuts around and convinced me I just had very poor technique, that my monitor was reading accurately ( he felt) I've had 20 or so friends get readings from it, and most all were between 90-102 mph. One guy got it up to 112, and another 111. Even though those are better golfers, I feel having the swing speed monitor has helped me learn better techniques because it gives me immediate feedback when hitting into a net at my home. I have learned to use a lot of shoulder turn and lag to get my speed high, even though I still struggle with making solid contact.
  6. You guys may be right... I bought the club 9.5 stiff ( just got back and read this thread) Full of confidence I stepped up to first tee and duck hooked it into fairway to left... I had never done that before, so tee'd up again and yep.. another one. So rather then play, I loaded up and headed to driving range. To keep from hooking, I had to move ball back in stance, and really soften grip on club. This resulted in nice straight shot most of time, but I have to be really careful how hard I swing at it, because if I up amperage, then I get massive hook. I really like this burner, but may need to switch to non-draw model as my swing gets better. My swing speed is much higher with this club. Today, I was consistently around 110mph swing speed with max around 114. Just 6 weeks, I couldnt get 90mph out of a driver, but playing 5 days per week has really helped me with timing and to swing more with body and less with arms. Right now though, I gotta admit to loving this driver... It is very nice to be able to see the ball launch with nice little draw sometimes. I really envy you guys with proper swings.
  7. Dicks has good deal on Burner draw drivers for 119.99 Tomorrow Im riding up to check it out and get one.... What loft and shaft should I begin looking at? I am 6'2 230 shoot mid 80s with 103 mph swingspeed and fast tempo Currently Ive been playing a nike sumo2 5900 with regular shaft and 11.5 loft. This was great when my swingspeed was in mid 80s, but now its throwing ball wayyyy too high with horrible dispersity at 103mph swingspeed. I hit all my clubs through 3 wood straight or with fade but my driver has been a constant struggle. Current trajectory, climbs way high, starts straight and then fades right before dropping out of sky like brick. I am thinking that a 9.5 turner draw ( weighted to help straighten me out) with stiff shaft is answer..... what do you guys think?
  8. A friend in the club is going to bring me a few Lefty clubs for me to try with from when he was younger and used a regular shaft ( now a senior shaft) Ive noticed even with very little practice, swinging lefty I'm generating about 6more mph swingspeed. It feels odd now, but what they heck.. I will play a couple weeks with lefty clubs then make a decision if want to continue or not
  9. I see Phil is right handed but hits lefty, and curious if others have switched? Im right handed, hit golfballs from right and have very little coordination with my left hand/arm. It would seem that my move would be more powerful/consistant if I switched to hitting lefty. Also being right eye dominant, hitting lefty (instead of right) would be more useful in putting and lining up shots. Any opinions on this?
  10. My thoughts vary... Usually I think too much, during swing in this order is my thoughts Address ball, light grip, slowly in backswing, oops, did I tighten grip at top, are my arms in right position, coil, am I lined up correct, hope I don't mess up while others are watching, ok, here we go, start with pulling left arm, get hips going, hit through ball, don't slice, remember to finish high and after all that and I hit the ball..... My thoughts sometimes go to WATCH THE BALL ( so I will know where to look and if I am going to need ball retriever... and I HOPE I don't hit anyone Please tell me it gets easier
  11. Thanks for your reply.. I wish I could be in the body of a real golfer and feel what the proper swing feels like. I think I know whats supposed to happen, just havent figured out yet how it should feel.
  12. Was watching various swings trying to learn whats happening at impact. It looks like many right handed golfers right at point of releasing, actually slow their left arm as club head approaches impact with ball. Is this happening or is the pause an optical delusion? Thanks David
  13. You guys got me interested in trying them. Took a 55 gallon drum with top cut out, a box of 100 shag balls and sharpened grooves on my 60degree wedge. I was trying to see how close to drum I could get and flop one up and in. The sizzle of the ball spinning in bottom of drum is pretty rewarding. I had to be on defensive, because when thinned it and the ball ricocheted off the side of drum but when it went in..... nice
  14. I never met Tom, its Mike Hooks now. I've started playing every morning with Jack, Jim, Tom Jr , Brian, Reed, Donnie, Ed , T ect Usually 15 or 16 for 4 teams of 4 ( 3bucks overall scat) #1 is drivable for you long hitters... I do use driver but then left with 50-70yards to green #14 Is 336 yards from white, and if you go over trees you can drive the green.... Back nine still gets soggy in rains but I score better due to its larger greens and more open play. Hitting it 230 will leave you 8i or less into most all par 4's Im using a distance ball, and yesterday got some drives in 240ish range and drove straight down the middle into ditch on #8 I don't mind the forced carries as much as getting penalized for hitting straight/long off tee. (which is very new concept to me) I'm concerned with balls traveling further in summer months, getting me in trouble on many holes with driver. Oh well, I like having that problem more than having to hit from adjacent fairway back through trees (which is what I've been doing ) Curious, If you play on white tees, can you back up to blacks on few holes or do you have to stay on same tee throughout? What is your name? Do you ever get back up this way?
  15. Like your avatar! ECU pirate Alumni here as well. I joined up at Farmville Country Club 220-230 yard tshots seem to play best from white tees at this course. It was designed with lots of trouble at 250 yards ( overfly doglegs, ditches, and ponds) The only thing that has worked for me with interlocking grip was to close the face at address a substantial amount. I could everynow and then hit a straight shot, but it was inconsistant. At various times, I gone from weak, neutral, to such a strong grip my right palm was almost facing up at impact, but nothing has consistantly helped. In my case having the right hand with more leverage seemed ( at least for yesterday ) to cure. Playing again today in a scat at 10 so hoping it continues. My thinking is to go with baseball grip for now and enjoy playing until something pops up ( like a pull hook or ?) Right now, if its going straight, have confidence and having fun, Im just going to play awhile like this. If pulls or inconsistancy comes back in, will then move hand to overlapping grip or back to interlocking. The baseball grip is so new, it feels a bit unnatural. I only tried it after watching what Johnny Miller said about its impact on ball flight. When I was 15, I broke both my wrists in motorcross wreck. Ive never thought it limited mobility, but in retrospect, I wonder if that could have had a negative effect on my squaring at impact?
