  1. On my last outing I had two 3 putts, ten 2 putts, and six 1 putts. I also, had 5 good close chips. This two six iron theory might help me lower my score. Lets see...
  2. I though about talking to the person, but they were in a cart, and I was walking it. They were also far away on a steep uphill.(500+yards).
  3. Zach Johnson said that the only way the 10 handicap amateur can play the us open is to hit every shot with a 5 iron up the middle ( golf digest 2008 us open preview) I'm going to try this on my favorite muni. Every shot up to 100 yards, I'm going to hit with my 6 iron ( 99 % straight, about 150 yards). After that, it'll be with the pitch, lob or putter. I'll post the scores next week. . Any one else tried this and had good results? Was it just too boring? .
  4. Someone stole my ball. I drove the ball about 250 and to the right, at edge of neighboring fairway. As the others in my group hit, I saw someone wearing a extra large ultra violet pink visor cap approach where my ball was near, bend down, then drive off. When I get to the area I cant find my ball. She stole my ball. And she was gone. QUESTION: How do I score this? I dropped a ball, and scored as three off the tee. But shouldn't I mark the hole as Par because I was a victim?
  5. What is going to happen when FEDEX decides to pull out its' sponsorship of the fedex cup? Another company will replace it, and will want to name the trophy cup. Surely, we imagine some funny if not risque names: #10: THE DIXIE CUP (Dixie Cup Tableware company). # 9: THE JOCKEY CUP (Jockey Sportswear). # 8: THE BRA CUP (The Bra Company.com). # 7: THE BIG GULP CUP (7-11 stores). # 6: THE D**KS CUP (Dicks sporting goods). # 5: THE TIDY BOWL CUP (Toilet Cleaner). # 4: THE BALL CUP (metal company). # 3: THE Sun Shun Fuk CUP (Big Asian noodle exporter). # 2: THE IP CUP (IP company, a telephony over the internet company). and the number one funny if not risque name: # 1: DE BEER CUP (The De Beers diamond company).
  6. Hello all, hope season is going well for everyone. I've def. improved. More fairways and GIR!. Anyway, on with my question. I'm going to be in the market for a new driver. I've seen folks enter a golf store, pick a driver off the rack and buy it. Cool. But is this cavalier purchase good for your game? Is there such a thing as driver fitting? Lie, loft, shaft length? Iron fitting is beneficial, but does it hold true for drivers? Especially for those new technology drivers? Any thoughts on driver fitting? and how to get it?
  7. You're going to love em. Good click on pure shots. No offset address. Really a pleasure to hit. Did you need any lie angle modifications?
  8. Hello all in the trap. I recently got new irons, and I have also recently divoreced my first wife. Unlike my first wife, I want to keep my irons for a long time. I was practicing in an open field, my new skill: shaping a shot around a tree, when I stuck a small rock. I hit the shot good, but I hit a small pebble, that left a small dent in the iron, low and near the hosel. It probably wont effect future shots, but my heart sank when I saw the impression. Any ideas on how to repair? A file? Small hammer? Its not anywhere near the sweet spot. And I'm only concered about appearance. Thanks in advance! Hit em long and straight!
  9. I want to mention that these dummies repeatedly ran 10 feet in front of tee boxes as people started their swings. Clearly stupid. No one was hurt in this MTV JACKASS type of dare, but I wonder what the reaction would have been if one of them got hit in the eye with a golf ball. I'm absolutely not trying to be holier then thou . Even you must agree that this behavior is dangerous and does not belong on the driving range. Would I rather these punks be breaking into my house or car? No, I'd much rather they be validating natural selection theories somewhere else. Like a busy truck route. I disagree, this was a busy time at the range. Parents were teaching the next PGA/LPGA 10 year old hopefuls. Expensive private lessons where being given in the reserved tees, and I paid money to practice my swing. I assumed I wouldn't be exposed to liability issues if I hit a dummy in the eye with a ball. Nor did I expect to be annoyed and distracted with loud boisterous activity; punks running down range and whiffs of illegal substances. All perfectly reasonable expectations for a paid practice session.. On a lighter side, I'm happy my original post is now a hot forum topic
  10. Greetings from the big apple. In the forum group that you are browsing you can make a new thread by clicking the "new thread button" Multi quotes are the greatest addition to this forum because you can respond to multi replys. Also the spell check is a nassersary evil.!
  11. If I find a pro v1, I'll hoard it like a squirrel Serioulsy, though I just buy what ever is on sale from the major manufactures. Last year consumer reports did a test on golf balls, and found that "Iron Byron" stuck balls, pretty much went the same distances. However, used balls retrieved from a water hazards are not good balls to play a round with. These balls however make a great shag balls!
  12. Get fitted. That is the key good shots. The fusions are expensive. The x-20s are nice. They do have a big offset tough. My search for irons was about 6 months long. Demo the six irons on the range. See what feels good. If you can play with someone and ask if you can try one of their clubs. Good luck.
  13. I want to play a round with you so I can get some goodies! I usually, bring seltzer with lime. I might bring a few diet cokes, because coffee has been shown to improve an athletes performance. Food: I bring an apple or a banana . Absolutely a peanut butter sandwich, or some crackers.
  14. I looked at the hibore for a while, but didn't like the offset and the draw bias. The R7 is probably one of the most popular drivers out there. Since you have wittled a huge ocean of choices down to 4, you can easily demo them at the range to see what you like. Good luck!
  15. Yes. Out of 10 balls struck, 1 goes crazy right, 1 goes crazy left. The others go to the target, and land to within 15 feet from the target. Sometimes this varies, but its pretty predictable. Interestingly, when I do a high draw to the target, it gets closer than my straight shot. Go figure Yes and no, these are my new irons and I want to nail down the yardages. But also, I'm a little older, have back problems because of my job and probably drink too much, so I generally swing easy, however I wanted to know how I compare to the average. I'm being brutally honest with the yardage; I'm not adding any vanity yards. After I create my yardage chart, I'll go take a lesson on distance from my local pro. Thanks to everyone that replied.
  16. How far do you hit your six iron? I hit mine, from 110 yards to 130 yards. Am I hitting it too short. Do I need a little Enzyte in my swing? Or am I hitting it just right. .
  17. A couple of things, in my opinion. First, is the lie of the ball on the range mat versus the lie of the ball on the natural grass. The mat gives you a great ball lie. The grass at a course give you a not so perfect lie. It may not be your swing, it may be that your swing is tuned to play a range mat lie. How to fix? Well, go to a football field or some other municipal soccer type field and hit balls there, to tune your swing to natural ball lies. In my opinion. if a golf course where to be created using only range mat material, aka: artificial turf, then most of us would be scratch players. Along those lines, Dave Peltz and other teachers advocate giving your self bad lies on purpose. Good luck. . .
  18. When I was seeking the perfect irons, I tried the x-18, the x-20 and the x20 tours. I picked the xtours, which are no longer made. The x-18 and the x-20 had too much offset, and the bottom was like a shovel. It just didn't feel right. The x-20 tour was better, because of the limited offset, but it was still like way expensive (at the time). The xtours which where being discontinued where on sale for $499. I went with the xtours. You can buy one iron of each club, then tape the crap out of it to see how you hit it in real life. But the really big tip is to get fitted. Lie angle, swing speed.. Very important. I would venture capital to say that an ill fitted standard top end "forgiving iron" will not be as good as the same club, or *any* club properly fitted. If WALMART fitted it's "walmart clubs" you would post lower scores than any non fitted high end club, in my opinion.
  19. Seems kind of foolish to wear sandals on a golf course. You have deer ticks to worry about, or you can accidentally trip, then with no ankle support have a bad injury. Not to mention the ball hitting your foot after a bad swing. If you hit the ball OB and are playing a pro v1, you might be tempted to enter the trees/ woods area, and might get bit by something. Sandals? No thanks! Take that new age mumbo jumbo and give me a good pair of golf shoes or a sneakers. my 2 cents.
  20. Peace be with the families and the victims.
  21. I've played both. Staring out I was a twenty-ish handicapper. I played with GI irons for about 4 years. I took some lessons, got fitted and now have player irons with some GI qualities: perimeter weighting. I love it. I like the feed back that player irons give me. I makes me a better player. More determined. Better impact, better feel and that sweet click on a great shot. My point is that GI irons should be a means to an end; a way to get better. You play GI irons to get better, so that you can play a high caliber of irons later. That was my plan and I stuck to it and now I have to change my screen name to InTheTeens instead of InTheTwenties. (alluding to my handicap index). So, play what you have. Get better. Then be a player. .
  22. Fisherdude, your post was absolutely helpful and informative. I want to write to say thank you. When I got fitted the fitter explained this to me but I was lost. Your explanation speaks volumes to your professionalism, knowledge and experience. Thanks again, InTheTwenties .
  23. Hello all, what is the best way to travel with your gear? Do you put it in general cargo and risk loss or theft? Or do you carry it on? What about those combo bags/kits with the hard plastic body? Any thoughts and hindsight would be appreciated because I'm planning a trip to a resort that as a nice golf course. Anyone have any horror stories? .
  24. Anyone one know where to get impact tape in rolll form. The store where I shop sells a small pack with about 10-15 sheets of impact tape at a very expensive price: $15.99. I recently upgraded my irons from game improvement to a player level iron, and need to tweak my swing and check my impact, so I'm looking for a large roll. I'll search the net to see who sells it, but since this is a golf forum and we are all addicted to golf, I figured I'd post this question. Either way I'll post the results of my quest. Thanks in advance.
  25. I picked up a copy of A Good Walk Spoiled by John Feinstein, and I'm happy I did, because it's nice to read about the stars of the game in the 80's and 90's. The first chapter about the Ryder Cup, well lets just say they should make a movie about this Ryder Cup match. Fun, drama, with classic antagonist/protagonist characters. Its got it all. An easy read especially since the weather is turning sour in the north east. . .
