  1. Lol ok man that explanation definitely swayed me.
  2. I just did some looking around and watching these swings from Hogan and Mickelson I see a lot of what you're talking about as far as not a lot of width and the club almost hitting their shoulder. Obviously me losing the grip at the top is gross and will be fixed just help me see why once I do that the swing couldn't be a successful one? Instead of trying to mirror what you have your student doing, high hands and looks like an over 90 degree shaft angle, what I notice in their swings is that their lead arm is across their body close to level with their back shoulder which is what I have been trying to do as it helps me from coming over the top and has simplified my delivery. I could get my hands more vertical and try to look like Cam Champ at the top that would get the shaft away from my shoulder and maybe gain some speed but that just adds more moving pieces and things to time up trying to drop it back into the slot. I'm already easily in the mid 170s for ball speed and ball striking is miles ahead of where I was just a few months ago I just think I need convincing that forcing myself to go from this to that is what's going to get me to where I want to be.
  3. Spent a few hours today in my 10 degree garage I think I made some progress. Did a lot of slow motion swings just trying to get comfortable and feel what I should be doing. As I slowly ramped it up it was harder to keep it where I wanted but its closer so going to keep working it until the season starts. Did this video in 8X slomo instead of the usual 4X I did from the front and dtl then something I haven't put up before is a few full speed swings. Did this with the driver and 7 iron. Also yes I know I waggle a lot lol
  4. I have not been in that thread before I will dive into it today
  5. I've seen that drill I'll do it today I can see how it would be helpful. Its pretty rare for me not to record my swings when I practice I'm usually tinkering with something. Not sure if you meant that by record or actually keep like a log of what I'm working on which I don't really do.
  6. 2 days for me when I'm working on something is 5-6 hours of practice so yeah that should be enough time to see something close to progress. I'm barely 2 years in to actually working on what was a completely broken swing with no coaching if you expect people like me to just know how to fix stuff you're sorely mistaken lol it's all trial and error
  7. After you sent that the first time I spent 2 days working on nothing but getting width and not losing the club like that but I got nowhere ended up getting frustrated and moved on. Couldn't find anything close to a feel, contact and club path were all over the place I felt like I was going backwards. Any drill to do or "feel" to go for? See a lot of like yanking the chain down and rotating hard I've just always been handsy so it was a mess when I tried to do it. Thinking about it my back swing is so fast that has to be at least part of why it's so hard because there's so much tension in my transition. I'll try drastically slowing it down tomorrow see if that helps. Been wanting to work on tempo anyway so maybe it'll be a two birds scenario.
  8. That would certainly explain a lot of players but with the distance hunt we've seen in the past couple years to not see anyone anywhere near what is scientifically the ideal launch angle just doesn't add up to me.
  9. I recorded these swings on 1/14 and have been battling youtube to upload it there was something corrupted in the file and eventually just had to go remake the whole thing. Should have just re shot it as I'm already not happy with the swings lol Anyway what we have here in order is driver DTL - driver face on - driver full speed - 3 wood off the tee DTL - hybrid DTL - 5 iron DTL - 7 iron DTL - 7 iron face on - 7 iron full speed - 9 iron Some things I have been working (at the time I recorded these) are: My posture, getting more upright I feel allows me to deliver the clubs, especially woods, on the correct lie angle. Club path I'm desperately trying to get more from the inside. It's getting a little better every day but doesn't feel engrained yet. Getting more compact. My swing still looks long but it feels like I'm only going at like 60% I've shortened up a lot it feels more repeatable and contact is much improved. One thing I'm not sure about I break my wrists very late that is why at the top of my backswing the shaft is well past parallel. I worked for a little bit breaking my wrists earlier to avoid the whippiness at the top but I truly despised the feel and it threw everything off wondering if its something I should worry about.
  10. So I've messed around with this a lot in the past but one thing I just noticed is optimal driver launch angle. According to online sources (trackman PGA tour averages, PGAtour.com stats) the average PGA tour drive is launched at under 11 degrees, with a downward angle of attack, spins around 2700 and only carries 270 yards. The highest on tour is David Hearn who is the only player over 14 degrees and the lowest guys are actually under 8! degrees. Other online sources as well as the optimizer has the optimal launch angle at 17 degrees and the lower the spin the better, 2700 seemed high to me. Just moving that launch angle to 17 and dropping the spin down to 2200, which seems consistently attainable for a tour pro, the carry went up 11 yards. So question is are they really gaining that much more control hitting it lower and spinnier to warrant having an extra club into every hole?
  11. Can someone explain the speed and acceleration profiles to me. I tried watching one of the livestreams where they went into it but it was incredibly dry and my attention span wouldn't allow me to watch the whole thing lol. I assume it's essentially tempo and maximizing speed at impact. I'm familiar with all the other terms and can discern what they mean but these are new to me so just want to clarify.
  12. I don't care if its only simulator golf. It's -1 outside and I'll probably never have another round, real or not, that starts with a 5 especially from 7100. Shame we're at least 2+ months away from stepping on a golf course. I can only hit into a net or putt on a mat for so long thankfully found this sim just about 15 min from my house. Its just a mevo+ but he only charges me $25 and I'm usually in there for close to 3 hours so hard to beat that.
  13. Oh very nice thank you I'll check it out!
  14. I figure if I get everyone on board early enough and can start working on tee times before the season I can pull better deals. I want to say it was Cascades that does groupgolfer deals I played there last year for like $18 so I'll keep my eye on that as well as the golf now app there are usually some pretty cheap deals there. I'm the oldest of the group at 31 so no senior discounts just yet lol
  15. Nice thank you Mines and Pilgrims Run are on my list I'll look into the others! I'm willing to spend the money but sounds like I've got 3 friends going with me this year and some of them are pretty stingy when it comes to spending money so plan is for 7 rounds total with probably 2 of them being over 50$ green fees. I want my whole 4some to go but in order to convince them I know I'll need to make it as convenient and inexpensive as possible. While I would like to go to the west side of the state (I live in the middle of the thumb) talking them into the 3 hour drive will be tough. So I put this together yesterday focusing more around a day at Eagle Eye resort, which is just over an hour away, play there and Hawk Hollow then work down to Jackson and and over to Ann Arbor. Quick math has it at just $646 for 7 rounds of golf and 4 nights of lodging so with food and fuel should be easily under a grand. I could cut that number down by 150 or more going with cheaper motels instead of Airbnbs (the ones I found looked pretty sweet though) and avoiding the night at Eagle Eye for cheaper courses in the Jackson area that I found last year. If I can get all 4 to go I'm going to try to get them to do a little double elimination match play tournament on the trip a-la what No Laying Up did during their latest Tourist Sauce in Michigan. Found a bracket and can be done in 4/5 rounds so having one round a day be towards the competition would encompass the whole trip and I think would be a lot of fun.
  16. I have! Definitely have a few of them on my list I love that series
  17. I had a really good trip last year. I went down to the Jackson Mi area played a total of 9 courses in 5 days I plan on doing the same type of schedule this year but debating on where to go. I'll be staying in Michigan most likely heading to the west side of the state Grand Rapids/ Muskegon area. I'm not trying to break the bank I much prefer cheaper longer courses so if anyone knows the area at all and has any recommendations it would save me a lot of time researching all the courses in the area!
  18. 1- Cam Smith (21) 4 x 4.33 = 17.32 2- Brian Harman (59) 22 x 1.98 = 43.56 3. Mav McNealy (68) 10 x 1.85 = 18.50 4. Hank Lebioda (188) 23 x .88 = 20.24 99.64 spent .36 rollover Brian Harman taking me to the promised land
  19. Put this video together made me happy to see the hard work I've put in paying off. This is from a swing video from 2020 compared to video of my swing from last week. Still very much a work in progress but I feel that it is good enough to get to scratch which is my main goal for the year if I can become consistent enough.
  20. Ok aiming high this year after a pretty successful last season. 1. Get to scratch Simple right lol went from at least an 18+ capper 3 years ago, got just under a 10 2 years ago and last year got at low as 3.8 currently at a 4.5. The next goals are what I think it will take to get there. 2. Hit 60% of greens Hit 50% last year which was much improved. Biggest thing holding me back was driving accuracy I found myself in tree trouble or drastically off line/ OB far too often. Last year I hit 68% of greens when I found the fairway opposed to just 40% when I missed. I have put in a ton of work already this winter pretty much overhauled my swing having given up some ball speed for (hopefully) accuracy and consistency. Also need to put in a ton of wedge work dialing in distances, it got exponentially better last season but still nowhere near where it needs to be. A lot of launch monitor work upcoming. 3. Hit 60% of fairways Piggybacking off the last comments I hit an abysmal 40% of fairways last season. I need to not only improve driver accuracy but also club selection. I have plenty of distance and don't play a ton of long courses I could get away with hitting as low as 6-7 iron off the tee and still have a wedge in so a 4 iron or hybrid off the tee will do the trick the a lot of the time. 4. Average under 30 putts per round I averaged almost 32 last season in what was an abysmal putting year. I have put in a lot of work on set up and mechanics the last couple months and it feels great so I just cant get lackadaisical with the practice especially once we're in the heart of the season. 5. Break par over 18 (hopefully many times) I broke par over 9 holes 5 times last year with the best being a 5 under day but it was in league and didn't have enough daylight to finish the round. I had a lot of 12-14 hole stretches where I would play 3-4 under but the start and finish of rounds would kill me so a lot of mechanical work throughout the year hopefully will really engrain everything to stay consistent throughout rounds. I found a course just 15 minutes from my house that has a range membership only $150 a year for as many balls as you want I intend on going there at least once a week once it opens along with the work I do in my garage which is virtually every day I don't play and a lot of days I do play. 6. Win 2 club championships I am changing memberships to a new club next year but my old club lets you play as long as you are a part of a league. I won it last year and have already improved drastically this winter so I am confident I will win it again. The new club I always play really well at but don't know what kind of talent is out there. If I hit my goals for the year (and I fully intend on putting in the work to do it) I will be tough to beat. Bonus: Improve physical fitness I am currently 6' 215 I want to get under 200 and improve strength and flexibility. Change in diet (I eat fairly healthy just cutting out alcohol), getting back into lifting (changing up how I've always lifted, less powerlifting more sustainability), and getting back into yoga.
  21. Happy to say I hit most of my goals. I set my GIR goal at 43% I finished the year at 49.2% I succeeded in cutting my blow up holes (double or worse) nearly in half to 1.6 per round hoping next year to get that to 1. Putting was reaaalllly bad all year I bought a new putter over the winter and it did not go well I only recently went back to my cheap pinemeadow and I am so much better with it. My putts per round went up to 31.9 a lot of that was hitting more greens but I also didn't make many putts over 10 feet all year. I won my club championship albeit with a bit of an asterisk it is supposed to be a 2 day event but 2nd day was canceled due to rain and the course was never in good enough condition to play a second day. Finished last year as a 9.5 I am currently at a 4.5. My issues keeping me from going lower are driver accuracy I get in trouble too much, my wedges I am not good enough from 150 and in, and I need a complete putting overhaul. Going to work on that hard through the end of the year and over the winter with the hopes of scaring scratch next season. I only got 9 rounds in the golf metrics app since I started using it but it's been great at pinpointing my weaknesses. I apologize for the spamming of stats just giving context. Adding one more image these are my rounds throughout the year, one of these things is not like the other lol. Had a stretch where I had 4 straight rounds where I shot 3 over then had a combined score in back to back weeks of league play where I shot 5 under before kind of scuffling the rest of the season.
  22. Going into the offseason I've already made a couple pretty big changes. I noticed in my set up I had far too much weight on my front foot and my back leg was almost locked out before even starting my swing. I got my weight more balanced and bent my knees a little more keeps my knee from locking out and has helped hit the swing plane I want a little easier. I also got my hands closer to my body at set up. I was standing with arms almost fully extended and in front of me so I moved them to the proper hanging position it took a bit to get used to but it feels so much better now. Toughest change I am trying to make is to get more (some) extension in my back swing. I can do it with the wedges and irons it doesn't feel too awkward (although incredibly forced) but with the woods I cant seem to get the feel. Getting more extension and shortening up my swing while maintaining speed are my 2 swing correction goals for the winter. *can speed up the video, 8x slo mo is probably over kill, if you go to the settings go 2x speed and its more pallatable
  23. Well course officially closed the weather has been terrible for weeks so I de facto won the championship. Which is cool because that was one of my goals for the year but still wish we could have fit it in somehow.
  24. Mine was definitely accuracy off the tee and is still my main issue keeping me from going lower. I hit it far but dont hit many fairways and am notorious for losing strokes having to recover from behind trees and usually at least one big miss per round. Despite not being happy with where I'm at I'm miles ahead of where I was at just a year ago where I couldn't find the club face and was the main reason I cut my handicap from 16 two years ago to 10 last year and down into the 4s this year peaked at 3.4. That and then wedge game 150 and in developing shots for certain distances (I currently go in 10 yard increments and have a sheet where I describe the kind of shots and which clubs I can use for each yardage) when I'm playing well is when this is clicking and I'm not missing greens or giving myself 40 foot putts. Tough to work on without a launch monitor or reliable driving range postings though.
  25. I appreciate it. I'm already getting the asterisk championship chatter I know they're just messing with me but I still want to finish up and push that lead to 8 or so just to put a stamp on it lol I'm hoping this weekend will be good its only supposed to rain 1 day this week so it should be dryer but they don't even have the back 9 open yet, the high will only be in the 50s, and I'm told they haven't mowed in weeks so if we do play its going to be rough if it does happen. Either way I just want the waiting game to be over with.
