  1. I recently changed drivers as well. I had the Nike 5900 and switched to the '09 burner. At demo days, the Taylormade clubs gave me a much better ball flight than the Nike. But lately, my drives are getting up there too... The '09 burner's shaft is longer than normal... it's 46.25 inches as opposed to the standard 45. Does anyone know what would happen if I put a 45 inch extra stiff shaft in it? Would that bring the ball flight down a little? a lot? Would I lose much distance? Would the head still be as hot? I'll probably end up doing nothing at all to it... but wondering what happens and if the shaft can affect how the face of the driver feels...
  2. Got ya. thanks! I think I'm going to do it...
  3. This doesn't have much to do with it... but what are the social/networking benefits of a country club? You often hear people saying how people play golf with their clients and how business decisions are sometimes made on the golf course, etc... Is that realistic or just urban myth? I work for a marketing agency and will soon do real estate on the side... think there is potential for meeting golf buddies and networking at the same time?
  4. I will be considered a junior till 29... I'm 26 now... then I'll be a young executive member till age 36... from then on it's full resident. Did you look at the course? Looks nice, but I will definitely ask to play it once before joining... I drive by it 5 days a week on the way home from work... now I keep looking over there, haha
  5. Good Point, it is indeed closed for maintenance on Monday. Not sure about the other days but I'll ask for sure. You guys are kinda making me lean towards not joining... haha
  6. From my understanding, there are no stock purchase requirements. And yes, the three year thing is pretty much just to spread out the $1,500. It's $500 plus two additional $500 payments annually. The only reason I'm even considering this is the location being 2 minutes down the road and the unlimited range/golf I can play. My brother in law is looking at $1,000 to sign up and about 4 payments of $500 as opposed to my two. So being a junior helps me out a lot. We may talk to them and see what kinda deal they can give us if we both sign up.
  7. Anyone have time to see the course? If so, here's the link... http://hcc1925.com/GolfCourse.aspx You can pick a hole on the drop down menu and click "view hole" to get a look at the course/each hole... Hole's 1 and 13 look pretty nice... as do the rest of them. Looks nice enough to play 4 to 6 times a month, maybe more... but I wonder if I'd miss the other courses I play. I'd love to go after work and see how many I could get in before it gets dark... I'm betting from 5:30 to 8:00 I can get 18.
  8. My bro-in-law spoke to a friend of his who is a member. Apparently it's not very crowded. Wednesday's are crowded and Saturday mornings are crowded, but he says if you wait till 1 o'clock on weekends there's not many people out there. Plus I can get in 18 after work most days. Or I can play on saturday afternoon and sunday mornings... After 2009, I'll be looking at $185 a year of unlimited driving range.
  9. Good point guys... variety is one thing that I'm not sure about... Huntsville has nice weather. We do get our 20 degree days in the winter, but a week later it might get up in the 40's and I'll play in that. My one concern would be variety. If I pay monthly dues, I'd probably feel like I always need to play there. Plus, my fiance will frown on my playing anywhere else, so if I join, that's where I'm playing. Granted, if the course is nice I might not mind that. Maybe I should indeed play it one time and see if it's nice enough to give up the other nice ones in our area. We have a Robert Trent Jones course I play but it's 20 minutes away and $45 bucks. It just seems really convenient to have a course right down the street, plus have free range privileges. I would literally hit golf balls 5 or 6 days a week.
  10. For 25 years I have lived literally two minutes (if that) down the street from a country club. It's one of three that I know of and probably the oldest one in my city (est. 1925). So it's not the nicest, but it's still nice. Make sense? Well my brother in law and sister have considered joining the one near my house as opposed to one on the nicer side of town where they live. At first I was trying to push my bro-in-law to join so that I could play as a guest. Turns out the only days it would make sense would be on tues. and thur. after work because I could play for $20... however, on the weekend I'm looking at $64 bucks. So really, him being a member only allows me to get out there, not play much. Seeing as how I've heard of junior memberships (I'm 26), I went up there to inquire. Here's what I would be looking at: $500 to join the club... (3 year contract basically, so $1,500 over 3 years) $130 a month No food requirements Free, unlimited use of the range for the rest of 2009. I think it's worth it. I play golf at least 4 to 6 times a month. I pay $22 to walk and $45 to ride at the places I play. The $22 course where I walk is a good 25 to 30 minutes away and the $45 course I ride is about 20 minutes away. I also drive 10 minutes to a driving range 1 or 2 times a week and pay $10 for a large bucket of balls. I'm not well off by any means and I don't make that much money as this is my first full time, real job, but these days, I am blessed just to have a job. If not for the initial $500 membership, it'd be an easy decision. But folks, this place is literally 2 turns away from my house, turn right out of my driveway, hang another right into the parking lot. haha. I spend $130 a month on golf anyway, so why not? If someone can talk me out of it then give me your best shot. Sorry this got so long, just looking for suggestions.
  11. Thanks guys. I'll think about the ball position and see if I can get it ironed out. I feel pretty confident on short putts... just frustrated with the long ones. I'm also thinking about letting my putting stroke arch more. Maybe that will help smooth things out.
  12. I'm having trouble with long putts. I made a tough decision when I bought my putter. I considered the itsy bitsy because the grooves are suppose to get the ball rolling sooner. I also tried, and bought the scotty cameron fastback. I love the fastback but the past couple of days I cannot seem to hit a long putt without the ball skipping, skidding, and then rolling. Sometimes the ball even lifts off the green. I realize putters have loft to get the ball from its resting position... but lifting off the green? I saw a guy who works at my local pro shop trying an itsy bitsy and I got him to try my fastback - he got the same result. The itsy bitsy rolled the ball much sooner. Now, the greens were very slow due to the rain weve had lately when I played the other day... but how do you hit a 15, 20, 30 foot putt? I mean you have to hit it with some authority to get it there but how do you do that without lifting the ball or making it skid. I just bought this putter, have only played 9 holes with it and I'm a little frustrated on long putts. I've began second guessing my decision. Would a blade do better on long putts?
  13. The Nike Platinum balls are at Dick's Sporting Goods now for $29.99. Same price as my Titleist NXT. Would you switch from a mid-level Titleist ball to a top-tier Nike ball for the same price? Seems like a good deal.
  14. I'm gonna let you guys throw out the functional apps, but as far as games go Cuberunner is my absolute favorite
  15. Although the videos look great and the concept is good... I'm not sure I'd rather have the wii version over ps3... ps3 graphics will probably look better, plus... what if you dont wanna stand up and actually swing? Just relax and sit down and play? Sure you probably can on wii but ps3 would probably be better for that.
  16. I had the burner irons on demo for about three weeks and used them on the course a few times. From what I have read on them, each iron may be longer than your average iron set and may take a little getting used to. They are also lighter that's where I could tell a pretty big difference. I will admit, they seem to hit the ball further. They are some long irons, I will give them that. However, for myself, lighter is not so much a good thing. I didn't like them all that much. I mean yes, they are nice irons, they are long, and they look great. But to me they seemed too light. I like my irons to feel like irons and the burners were just too light. Granted I think they did that on purpose. I decided to buy the r7 irons. they were 399 as opposed to the 699 for the burner irons and I hit them great this weekend. I've hit the r7 irons better than I hit the burners. But that was me and may not be the case with you. Try to go somewhere and hit them. They look great and are longer. You might even have to club down. I just couldn't spring for that kinda money and don't like how light they were.
  17. Here's proof that this grip is only a $15 upcharge. http://www.bestbuygolfsupply.com/sco...backputter.htm
  18. I recently sold my red x putter because I ordered the fastback. After I ordered the fastback I went to a different pro shop and noticed that their scottys had some sweet grips that I had never seen before. They were the midsize winn avs grips. I found a website where you order a scotty and the winn grip is a $15 upcharge. However, you can't just buy the grip. It's not a scotty's custom shop grip, it's just a different grip. This ebay seller I've seen has sold several of this same grip, "pulled," for price ranges from around 70 dollars to over $100. And yes, people are paying it. I understand supply and demand but come on. If people knew to ask for the upgraded grip it'd be fairly cheap. Sounds like this shop is ordering camerons with the upcharged midsize grip, pulling the grip, and making lots of money off of it on ebay. I'm not sure whether I should be mad or just congratulate the guy for finding a way to make a lot of profit. Here's the grip... http://tinyurl.com/ct6k97 I really really like the grip, but considering what I just paid for the cameron, I can't drop close to $100 on a grip, that's ridiculous. It's not even a custom shop grip, just an upgrade. To think I could have gotten it as an upgrade for $15... How do you feel about it? Let's say I go to my local shop where they have scottys with this grip and say "guys, you can pull those grips and sell them for $100 a piece on ebay." Would they do it or say no, we ordered those as another option for people buying our camerons. I wish scotty would make these grips available just like the others on his website.
  19. haha, Sandtrap tournaments... that's a great idea.
  20. I must say wow... I have an older tiger on ps3... 08 I think... and I like it better than actually taking swings... but if the wii motion plus will be so realistic that it produces the swing I imitate... I might have to get it on wii... it looks very good. Will there be wii golf lessons available?
  21. My Dad's from Detroit so I tend to like most of their team... there are only minor league teams in Alabama. Even when the lions had Barry Sanders they still weren't any good! But man was the guy exciting to watch... wish he would have stuck around a few more years.
  22. that's funny... poor lions... However, Calvin Johnson is indeed a monster. He has potential to be one of the best receivers ever. Said to be 6'4 with a 40 inch vert and 4.3 speed. He's ridiculous. Those numbers may not be exact but they're in the ball park. But the lions are just... terrible. maybe they will win a game or two this year.
  23. And for a softer touch... the orginal red x with the insert would feel better than the new red x3 or x5. Also, you should give the taylormade rossa line of putters a try. I like the fontana.
  24. I did see some place where this grip is an option for about an extra 15 dollars. But if you don't they go for a lot of money on ebay. And you can't buy it on scottycameron.com... that's wack! haha Maybe I'll get use to the chord grip... anyone else prefer the chord? I just like how tacky the winn is and I think the mid size feels good.
  25. Has anyone seen this grip? I ordered a fastback that comes with the chord grip and I wish I had this grip. Anyone know what it's called or how I can find it? The one I found on ebay says it's a winn. Would you buy a pulled grip like this one? http://tinyurl.com/dmv85e
