I play the 53 and 60 588's in Gunmetal and from I can tell so far, they'll last as long as you allow them to based on how well you take care of them. I've always made a point of cleaning all of the clubs after every round, but these clubs specifically need to be washed and then dried throuroughly . For me this has kept them in great shape and while rust is cool and all, it's really not neccesary with these wedges as the finish itself frames the ball with a dark bakground and there's virtually no glare at all. Just for some comparison, I had CG11's earlier last season, the CMM material wears substancially faster than what's used in the 588. While I did notice a slight difference in feel, it wasn't anything that would have me leaning one way versus the other. Also, I'd be suprised if they were to stop making these wedges, they still get tons of play on akll the tours as well as out on the public and private courses. I'm not completely convinced this CMM platform they've been marketing at Cleveland is going to be overly successful (certainly hasn't been so far) and you may see another change in the near future; the only constant has been the classic wedges like the 588 and 900 series. -Mike

I'm as excited as you about the 907D1, but haven't they already completed review for 2007? Not that I agree, but I thought that ended up being the Callaway Ft-5.

V-steel versus HiBore FW
SuaSponteMn replied to SuaSponteMn's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
LoL!! I knew there was no way I could post here and not at least catch a little flack on ND's exceptional performance in the Sugar Bowl I missed it here As for all those clubs, I have no idea what you're talking about, I only bought new shoes last year... Wait, I can't say that and keep a straight face. Hey Al, been meaning to talk to you about practice facilities up here in the great, white north. When I was in the south metro, I'd go to Breamar's dome, anything like that for us up here? The carpet in the family room is getting a bit worn Thanks for the feedback everyone, based on the comments, I'll probably just drop and NVS75 in the V-Steel. JohnBoy, I've already got 2 hybrids in the bag and I completely agree with you, they are incredible assests, best clubs I bought last year wait, I only bought shoes last year right Al? Aquacooled, thanks for the feedback on the V-Steel's staying power, there certainly is something about it that that makes it hard to put down. -
Hello all, I'm currently playing a TM V-steel 3w which I'm satisfied with, but I think I could do better. I've had a lot of luck with my HiBore driver since I got the right shaft in it, and I've heard that the head design is even more effective in the fairway woods. The thing is I'm primarily looking for something I can hit off the deck consistently, I have a certain amount of this with the V-steel, but at times it could be a bit more forgiving. I'm really not worried about workability, I'm still learning to do that with my mid to short irons. Any thoughts?

I'm a golfpride fan, but I suppose I'd be considered old school now. A new set of tour velvets are installed on my clubs at the beginning of every season.

I wish they had they [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags available... Clearly Turlock Tech isn't an institution of higher education :) See, you do hate Notre Dame That's OK, you're supposed to, just like I'm supposed to hate USC. That's the beauty of rivalry Same here, but in all seriousness, I agree with the previous poster, Quinn willl have a bright future in the NFL. He's smart, big, fairly mobile, and he's got a great arm.
-
Hater... You can bet I'll be cheering for the Buckeyes to put a beating on USC too
-
You're right he sucks... With a rating of 151.6, 3278 yards passing, 35 TD passes and only 5 picks in 2006? Maybe that was a fluke, oh wait a second... In 2005 he had a rating of 158.4, 3919 yards passing, 32 TD passes and only 7 picks. You can hate ND for their TV deal, keeping your team off the tube most weekends, you can hate them for being one of the most recognized college football programs ever, even hate them because they get your team booted from a BCS Bowl because nobody wants to watch Turlock Tech get waxed. But to say Quinn is a bad quarterback is blatant stupidity at it's finest; clearly you didn't attend the University of Notre Dame. He'll go top 10 in the draft, probably top 5, and will be at minimum the runner up for the Heisman Trophy.

You're a better QB than Brady Quinn? Where did you play?

Wedges, like pretty much all golf equipment, is personal preference so yeah, try before ya buy.... I love Cleveland wedges, I'm playing 588 gunmetals currently in 54 and 60 degree loft. Along with my pitching wedge, there isn't a shot I'm terrible uncomfortable with. I've owned 900 series and CG's as well, IMO they just plain don't make a bad wedge. A lot of folks here are big fans of the Titleist Vokey wedges, excellent equipment as well. I've never played a Mizuno wedge, or the new Callaway varieties, but I can't imagine either company making a poor product. One other thing: If I was buing new wedges, I'd be focused primarily on ensuring that I buy the proper lofts to keep the gaps consistent from club to club. There's plenty of different options, P 52 56 60 - P 54 58 - P 64 60. Just make sure you get the most shots out of your wedges by selecting the right clubs :)

What people decide on for bag makeup is a pretty personal thing, so if this works for you, great! For me, 5 wedges (including your Pitching Wedge) would be overkill, I'd spend too much time determining which wedge to hit, and then I wouldn't ever be 100% confident I grabbed the right one. I actually had this problem when I was carrying 4 (P, 52, 56, 60) so I cut back to 3 (P, 53 bent to 54, and a 60). I've gotten to know these 3 wedges, and what they're capable of with full and shorter swings so I'm comfortable with any yardage 120 -> in. Some of that may be playing style as I lean more towards feel, if you're a more "mechanical" player, more wedges would probably be of value. For me, less wedges and adding a 3 wood I can hit off the tee & the deck to my bag as well as a 3 iron hyrid was a better move for me.

Wouldn't miss the BCS as it sits, not AT ALL I'm sure Al's suprised by that LoL

Why the hurtful words Mr Badger? I see you guys back there in the #9 spot and I'd agreed that you should be higher if they moved USC and Florida to where they belong. That would put you guys in 4th, right behind the most storied program in college football history, Notre Dame. Maybe But I think this year's team has been holding back, they're going to run wild on USC and hopefully get a BCS win as well. Not worried about about getting a BCS invite though, if we're eligible we'll get invited. Like us or hate us, we bring the ratings
-
I disagree, but I suppose that's why they play the game If this was true, we'd be ranked higher. Everybody knows the ranking system is more of a beauty contest than a true measuring tool Agreed, but not 3 and 4, more like 8 and 9... You nailed it here though
-
I have no idea what you're talking about But seriously, out of all the one loss teams in the top ten, we're the only one who has lost to one of the top two. Makes sense that we should be #3. As for USC having an inside track to the National Title game, they need to get by us to get there and they have a lot less talent than they did last year, when they won in the last 3 seconds on a BS play. Add to that we've essentially got two weeks to prepare with us playing Army at home this week. With Ohio State beating the crap out of Michigan, and us destroying USC, I'm hoping for the nearly impossible; a rematch from last year's Fiesta Bowl!
-
I think the ranking are a little off currently... 1. Ohio State (accurate) 2. Michigan (accurate) 3. Florida (inaccurate, should be lower, lost to Auburn who is a two loss team) 4. USC (inaccurate, should be WAY lower, lost to Oregon State who is a 4 loss team 5. Arkansas (accurate) 6. Notre Dame (inaccurate, one loss to the #2 team, should be ranked #3) 7. Rutgers (reasonable accurate) Accurate ranking in my mind is: 1. Ohio State 2. Michigan 3. Notre Dame 4. Arkansas 5. Florida 6. Rutgers 7. USC

Crazy to see this post here, I was just thinking about seeing what anybody knew about this club. I heard a rumor that they were going away from the D3 and D4 prototypes, and producing the D1 and D2 which are both 460cc clubheads. I stopped shopping for a project driver the instant I saw the pics of the 907D1. Sadly I probably won't get me hands on one until late next season seeing as the industry hates us southpaws Has anyone heard anything about these clubs? Wondering if there's a possible preview out there from somone who's spent some time with it...

Best of luck to you and your clones then...

I suppose flex could impact trajectory to a certain extent, stiffer being a bit lower, but ultimately having the proper flex shaft is really going to limit left to right dispersion. To get any more detailed in this conversation, I'd have to defer to one of the clubfitters on the site, gas_can is about the most knowledgable I've noticed here and has been very helpful to me.

This statement is exactly why I would never buy knock-offs. I hate the idea of having to justify whether the product I'm using is up to snuff, or wondering if I bought the "good-quality" versus the "pretty bad ones". With clones you just never know until the clubhead is flying farther down the fairway than your golf ball. If you buy the real deal, there's never a doubt that your money went to a quality product and typically the customer service and warranties reflect that.

All of the shafts you're inquiring about come in regular flex as well, consider those as your options if you don't have the swing speed to use a stiff shaft the benefits should be the same. Not sure if launch angle would have much to do with flex, I think that's dictated more by clubhead speed, but there are plenty of gurus here that can confirm that. I still suggest you give it a while, work with the stock shaft, see if it helps you define what you're looking for in a replacement, or if you need to replace it at all. -Mike

I've been on both sides of the coin. Receiver: When we were kids, I made the mistake of walking around the back of the green while my youngest brother attempted to chip on to the green. Problem was that he was attempting to do so with a 3 iron and a pretty full swing. It caught me on the shin and I dropped as if that leg had been removed; rapidly. I spent the next few days with what appeared to be a purple golf ball (dimples and all) attached to my shin. Sender 2 years ago I was playing with my boss and the 15th hole of the course we were playing was a fairly long par 5 and usually not reachable. I struck my drive right on the screws; long and straight. I had a chance to get there but it was a blind shot over a hill. I ran up and looked to get an aiming point, came back down and gave it a shot. I struck my 3 wood as well as my driver, and I swore I was on, maybe even tight. Turns out I flew the green and nailed a guy cutting across to the next hole right in the fleshy part of the neck. When I got up there it looked like a traffic accident; pull cart turned over, wheels still spinning slowly, and this giant of a man sitting there holding his neck. He asked for some ID in case he needed to sue me for damages, but he kept on playing so I'm guessing it didn't hurt all that bad. But man did it leave a welt. I know it's not funny, but I still chuckle when thinking about that cart...

Opinions vary. I was advised that the mid kickpoint in the NVS would launch the ball too high in a clubhead like the HiBore so I never even considered it. I suppose if someone had an issue with low launch conditions it might fit. But again, probably a good idea for him at minimum to get on a launch monitor to determine what fits him best right? Probably better to just wait and see
-
Hi Tommy, I bought the HiBore with that same stock sahft you're talking about, it's not a bad shaft at all. I played it for 3 months that way and the only real issue I had was that it launched a bit too high for my taste with a loft of 10.5. I replaced it with an Aldila NV65 in stiff flex and that has droped my ball flight dramatically, pretty sure the ProLaunch Blue is a higher launchiing shaft that wouldn't be terribly different in terms of height than the stock shaft. If you read most of the threads about shafts here, you'll notice that it's a highly personal thing, what's right for some usually isn't right for others. Everyone's tempo, swingspeed, and when they load the shaft is different. My suggestion would be to play it stock for while before investing another 130.00 in a new shaft.

To bring this post back on topic, I'm going to say... TIGER WOODS Come on now, someone had to say it... Right?
