  1. some more excellent advice, thanks! I will have a look around for junior clubs... makes sense really as I expect they would last him many years...
  2. ok, thanks for the info, it is appreciated!
  3. I want to cut down some clubs for my 5 year old but I have never done anything like this before... These will basically be clubs for him to just try and hit the ball, not expecting him to become a phenom or anything so am not too worried if the clubs are perfectly balanced, etc... Also, how do I remove the grips and put them back on without ruining them? I realize that if I cut the shafts down they will be larger in diameter, will the old grips go back on? Also, how should I measure them? And, finally, anything else I should consider? I plan on cutting probably 3 irons and a driver, and a putter... Thanks!
  4. Thanks I appreciate the info... for some reason on the golfsmith website they have the Dynamic Gold shafts listed as mid...
  5. I am considering a set of Nike VR Full Cavity irons and I was looking for a bit of advice concerning possible shaft choices. I am looking at a mid launch shaft and the choices available are: Mid: TT Dynamic Gold HL Precision Rifle (Nike) Mid/High Nike Speed Step (True Temper) I really don't knoiw much about the differences between steel shafts, so I am just looking for some information about these choices... Thanks!
  6. One thing to consider is whether or not you want to get custom fit or buy off the rack... Most will advise that you get custom fit, but if that is not a realistic possibility or if you just want to buy a "starter set" check golftown.com... Some really good deals and shipping is fast and usually free...
  7. So I got out to the range with this driver last night and I have to say I have never had that much fun hitting balls on the range. I have been working on my swing a lot and my consistency is getting better, so it was really cool to see the ball fly the way it says it will with the different settings. I was very impressed. What has me the most excited was that I hit the ball on target way more often than usual, with the exception of some nasty hooks when it was set to 2* closed... Right now I have it set to 1* open and 1* upright and it feels great... I plan to hit the range again today and the big test comes tomorrow morning when I head out for 18... Can't wait...
  8. Another question, I am assuming this comes put together, but how is it setup, neutral?
  9. Cool, thanks for the info on the loft. What I have read is the the 9.5* and lower are more of a medium launch angle... are you hitting the 10.5*? I am pretty sure I saw this in a video review of the club...
  10. From what I have seen and heard it is a long driver, I am excited to try it out. Did you play with the settings much when you first got it? Just wondering how noticable the different alignements are...
  11. So I pulled the trigger on a Nike SQ DYMO STR8-FIT driver, I was looking for a new driver and I was very interested in trying out a "customizable" driver, and the price was right compared to the TM R9... I have never hit one, have not really had the opportunity, but I have played with a few guys that hit it very well, and I did as much research as possible to try and decide if this club was right for me. Probably what clinched the deal was the UST Proforce AXIV shaft. I have a Wilson Staff fybrid which has a UST Proforce v2 shaft and I really like it. Just looking for some comments on anyone who has this club, what can I expect in terms of ball flight, I went with the 9.5* to try and get a more medium, boring trajectory... Hopefully it gets here before Friday so I can spend some quality time with it on the range prior to my weekend round...
  12. Thanks, I do like the HiBore, so a new shaft might just be the answer... I am actually going to get my irons fit next week, they do not currently have a launch monitor where I am going but I will chat with them about shaft options for the driver...
  13. Interesting thanks... I am able to get it to recommend a 9.5* or an 8.5* with slight yardage changes... My big concern is how high I hit the ball now so that is why I was asking about the shaft and the adjustments, etc... hoping I could find a combination that would work for me... Obviously I would want to hit the driver before buying, my big problem here is that the only places that I can really tryout drivers are indoors into a net, so that helps a bit, but it doesn't really get me too excited about a particular driver when I can't see the ball landing, etc...
  14. I am trying to find a driver that suits me, my current driver is ok, but I hit it way too high... I am not able to get a proper fitting in my area so I have been doing a lot of online fitting. I was just looking at the Taylormade site and they recommended an 9.5 * r9 with the Fujikura Motore 65g shaft. My question is does the shaft and loft make a big difference on this driver considering how adjustable it is? For example, if I had a 10.5* wouldn't I be able to adjust it enough to make it hit like a 9.5*? Thanks!
  15. I have played both the Tour Fire and the Fire... The Tour Fire feels softer to me, it compresses nicely, too. I find I hit it nice and far and it has some decent control, especially around the greens... To me the Tour Fire is a better ball, cost is not that much of an issue with this ball anymore, so I don't even bother comparing the price difference between the two... For the money I think the Tour Fire is a great ball...
  16. The other thing to remember is the golfers memory... The great shots are remembered for a long long time, while the bad ones are usually forgotten rather quickly... I am talking weekend duffer types like me, that is... I have in the past hit a drive or two that measured 300 + based on the yardage markers at my local course. So of course I answer yes when someone asks me if I can hit it 300! - actually I don't but I am just making a point... But I have also hit drives on other holes where I felt that I really crushed it and maybe it is 250 based on the markings on the course... So a lot of factors go into the actual distance the ball travels... And of course ego and the fact that you may have done it once makes a lot of golfers truly believe they hit it farther than they do...
  17. I like them, especially for the $$ I recently bought 45 Maxfli MD distance balls for about $30 from that site... I have to say I am disappointed in these balls though... but it didn't cost me too much... Honestly, I still love the Maxfli Revolution solid, I usually get 24 for $24 from a local shop...
  18. JB Holmes had the CARRY DISTANCE of one of his drives measured at 317 yards last week Equipment - clubs and balls, and the advances in teaching and training etc... certainly have made it easier to hit the ball farther... But I agree, just about everyone exaggerates how far they hit the ball...
  19. I get really good carry out of the HiBore, and I don't even have the XL... But I get very little roll due to the high ball flight... that is a fair trade off for me, though, because I hit the fairway more often...
  20. Excellent Thanks!
  21. I like the HiBore, but I don't have the stock shaft... I find that it is not as long as I thought it would be, but that could be due to the shaft/loft combination, I really hit the ball high with this driver... I do find that it gives me pretty good control off the tee... I have read that the Launcher was a "hot" driver, and the description says that this one has a thin face... so I am guessing it would be pretty long...
  22. I need to replace the spikes on my Nike SP-5 III shoes, can someone recommend a good place to find them? Also, how do I know exactly which ones will fit these shoes? Thanks!
  23. Wow that Launcher looks nice, I wonder if it will compete with the HiBore series at all? Funny, it is not even listed on the Cleveland official site....
  24. What really makes me mad about it is the course management. They love raking in the green fees but they never have a marshal on full time. What they do is ask regular players if they will marshal in return for free golf... I like playing the course, and if two of us get out early enough in the morning we can play 18 in 3 - 3 1/2 hours easily, so Sunday was just completely unnaceptable... My only other options are courses that require a long haul to get there or the local "country club" and I can't afford $400 a round, that is what a membership would end up costing me with the number of rounds I manage to play each summer... oh well, gonna have to suck it up I guess...
  25. Played Sunday and it was excruciating... I have a playing partner that I go with fairly regularly and we usually just get paired up with another twosome, this was the case Sunday... This is always fine with me... Sunday we play with a coupe and the guy starts off bad, slices his drive into trouble right, no big deal.. But, he loks for his ball forever... She leaves her ball which was just shy of my drive, walks back 50 yards and begins to help... Finally she finds it after heading back to hear ball, and he is halfway across the fairway getting ready to drop, so thej he walks back across and gets ready to play his ball... I then wait for her to go through her routine, then I get to hit and chunk my wedge! Nothig more frustrating then waiting 10 minutes to hit and doing that... I should have played my shot ahead of them... hindsight... Anyway, I can't let it go and then I proceed to triple bogey the hole, after a perfect drive... stupid... The kicker is that we get to the next tee and the group ahead still has not finished up... This is turning inot the slowest round I have ever played... We get to the tee on the 11th hole and my partner checks his watch... 3 hours!! The group ahead of us is pathetically slow, poor etiquate, have no idea what they are doing... the girl we are playing with says it is open two holes ahead of them, so me and my partner say screw it and we drive to the 13th tee... well we get there and there is a group on the green and a group on the tee! So now we were screwed so we decide to just head in to the clubhouse, as we drive by the finishing holes the entire course is gridlock... No marshals in sight... I guess that is the price you pay to play on a public course... but this was the worst I have ever seen... end rant...
