Are you a Better Golfer than a Year Ago?
Sierra Magica replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
YES After years stuck in my old handicap and hundreds of pounds in worthless lessons. I have found a true golf pro. She got the knowledge to make me feel the propersception of a profesional golfers when they swing the club. Now I can say I am a scratch golfer and know how is feel play under par. Only add that there are too much rubbish teaching nowdays. Find this woman who knows her stuff is winning the lottery. To closie my point, Just say PROPERSCEPTION is the solution of the "black hole" that every stuck golfer. -

IMO walk the course is a win. Play on with 72 is a privilege no matter how well or badly. I recommend play foursome or Texas scramble. They are less demand on yourself. Share some wisdom to the Junior. I always welcome some from my senior member. -
Listened pros. Some of them legends on interviews. They said that they are always picking their brain each other on the range. some practice together. The kind of thing we don't see on tv often. But the hunger for knowledge and improvement drive them to a constant search. Why don't do the same here.

Maybe this help, I have realized that with peoples not as flexible as youngster, Start with the arms is not such a bad idea because if your start with the lower body everything going out of position and you will go OTT. From the top go to P6 which is shaft parallel to the ground by pulling down the arms, now you can activate the body to turn through the shot. First try slow motion and then speed up. When you are turning you have a small lateral bend of the body to the right. Keep it through the shot until your hand are over the left shoulder. summing up: -Pull down P6 - Turn body - Finish hands over left shoulder (Right hand golfer) I hope this help, It helped me ( from lessons)

Lesson some time doesn't help. If you don't believe me. Ask Tiger. What I am talking about is subtle tick in your swing that make big difference in a very complex action as it is the golf swing. Are we constructive here or just........

I know sound silly but when I understood that every club has different length and the release start at different point my ball strike changed dramatically for good. I used to release every club as 7i. included the driver we the consequence disasters. After defined the release point on the range I took to the course and the difference was amazing. example:- 9i. my hands have passed the ball 1 inch. I release the club, hit, follow-through and finish. - Driver my hands are close to right hip on the downswing, I initiate the release from there. I turn smoothly, hit, follow-through and finish. Same feeling on green side bunker shots only my "weight" is on the front leg.

Are you a Better Golfer than a Year Ago?
Sierra Magica replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The true is. middle and high handicap spent 0.5% of chipping and putting. How many 3 or 4 putts in one round. How many topped or shunk chips. Because they have 80% of GIR they don't need to practice Chipping and putting. -

Ok, That is what you think and its is right for you. maybe because my GIR is good. My obsession is to hole as many chips I can. Chipping from different distances use different club include 3 wood which I love it. Suppose you have a golf swing that is enough to defense yourself on the course. but you age or fitness level don't let you reach long par 4 or you have a bad day and your GIR is low. What do you think will save the day? That is what I work more and It has helped me tremendously. Is the reason I share here. to give ideas a different way to see the game. Nobody is wrong or right that is the beauty of this game. -

It is true chipping and putting should be 80% of your practice sections. But we amateur don't really care. Wrong for our part. we need to weak up. Chipping don't require much body participation which is more easy to accomplish results in really short period of time. In putting department what has helped me a lot was define my stroke. I mean, How I control the distance by speed of the stroke or by length of the swing. I am more speed of the stroke. I only use slow lengthy putts on ultra fast green. -
First you need to understand what swing on plane mean, to control the shaft. I mean truly understand. Because if you don't get it, you can't go to the next step clubface control. I can show you videos of mayors winner working constantly on that with their coach . That is how important it is. When everything fall apart on the course mean you are trying to hit the ball from point A to B without any conscious of what are you doing. Good Player swing on plane then they control the ball with the clubface. I guarantee you if you swing on plane and keep your lead wrist flat at impact. You will become a new better golfer, Remember 'The Plane is the Boss'.

Have you defined the main problem? I mean the bad shot which more often you hit. What is the part of you game? -
This has taken me 8 years to really see and feel at the same time. The shaft need to be on its plane on the takeaweay, through impact and follow-through. Now I see the angle of attack, angle of approach and the base of the plane. You choose what to take to swing. I always choose the base of the plane. Now I am not longer focus on the ball just to swing on plane. You need to use tool to learn to visualize these lines. Have you ever heard? " I swing better in my practice swing than the real swing" Is because of all the attention go to the ball and there is a big blackout when you try to hit the ball. Try to understand what I am try to explain to you and the door of heaven will open for you. By the way this is valid from putter to driver.

Sierra Magica replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Right now I am working on swing plane. I have built a plane board and swing on it everyday it has helped me a lot. The shaft must be in contact with the board all the time. specially takeaway, through impact and follow-through. Try to understand how the body react when I keep the shaft in contact with the board. It has given me new perspective about old swing and new. I recommend to everyone who have too much focus on the ball or try to kill it every time. -

I am sorry to hear that. Sometime we look from improvement where the improvement will be insignificant or neither. What I found is chipping, pitching and putting are the more important and easy parts to be better golfer. The involvement of the body is significantly lower, easy to accomplish and the reward coming sooner. Also when you take lesson you can feel that the instruction is applicable from day one to your own game. I wish you luck!! -
I'm sorry, sir, if I offended you, it was not my intention. What kind of punishment would be relevant?

PPs not matter cross-handed or standard position are PPs. They receive pressure. You can play with one hand or two also with prosthesis. Please don't hide information to your students. That is the same as lie to them. Reason why game fall apart. Lack of knowledge and ability to correct yourself in the middle of the round.

On the grip you going to receive pressure by the actions as: The extension of the right arm, the cocking and uncoking the left wrist and the rotation of the left forearm and so on. Where the pressure is received on the grip. Are called pressure points. If they are not positioned correctly on the grip they can destroy the geometry of the golf swing. So, Imagine how unconsciously we use to play when we don't know these basic things. Then we complain abut our game doesn't get better.

Hi there, I was reviewing basic fundamentals and my first aha moment came with the grip. Now I understand pressure points and their function and in my pre shot routine I include how I grip the club. First I grip the club with the left hand. I try to feel the cock and uncock of the left wrist and its pressure point #2 to allow do the job. Then the pressure point #1 go on its position and try to feel how push the shaft down and how important is to be located on the correct position. Finally pressure point #3. For me its location affect how the face is going to be coming into impact. If at impact the pp #3 is under the shaft the face will be open, the opposite if the pp #3 is more on top of the shaft at impact the face will be more close. How could neglect something so basic!!! Some time we neglect obvious thing as the grip and it can ruin everything. So I recommend to improve review basic and try to understand them and if you can't try to ask to a good golf pro. Good luck this year

Rope Handle Technique
Sierra Magica replied to Sierra Magica's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I use to observe other golfer and specially Junior play. I realize, Kids don't have the same strength as adults. So they need to harness the power created on the backswing. That is one of the reason why they look so gracious on the downswing and follow-through without even Knowing or thinking about it. Fanny, Nature gives gifts. What make good golfer is keep them for the rest of your life. -
I've been working and studying very hard this nearly finish year. My game going to a place where every single day is a joy. Thank to knowledge of the game and knowledge of my self with regard of the most appropriate technique. The last piece I am working on is the Rope Handle Technique. I want to share with you my impression of this technique. Once I reach the top. I feel that I am pulling out a arrow (which is the shaft) from a quiver and rotating on plane and finish extending my arm along the plane line. Timing here is basic. Too slow rotation of the upper body means fat shot and too fast rotation you hit thin. Proper timing you hit beauty. Any thought?

A new generation of younger Instructor have helped very much to take golf more as a science. With the support of technological advance. That is the reason why I don't believe old Gurus of golf anymore. They were good because they were teaching gifted guys. With absolute security I can say. Me a High handicap for many year. In a period of three year I will reach Scratch. -
Are you a Better Golfer than a Year Ago?
Sierra Magica replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have been there many times. Clubs broken. No anymore. Golf is very complex movement. But for us recreational golfers from 6 to 24 handicap we need to understand two thing 1. Swing on plane specially on the backswing. Because the most common fault is the too inside backswing. 2, Control the low point of the swing which is 6 inches after the ball. Please find a pro able to teach you this. Forget about anything else the body is more clever than you think and will adapt to new geometry. Or at least do this on practice rounds: Put a tee 4 inches after the ball and 2 inches right of the target and try to clip the tee after hitting the ball. If you take the ball and the clip the tee you should hit descent shots. The rest will be clubface control. But please find a Pro able to you swing on plane and control the low point of the swing. Good luck
