  1. Are the clubs in Leeds geared up for kids golf? Seems pretty lacking in my neck of the woods
  2. little pitch on our local course .. still coming along with his Dad and loving it :)
  3. Thanks for all the responses, all very interesting and most hit on the points I’ve been mulling over. I do believe it must be fun for him … take that out of it, or put pressure on and he’s likely to get turned off. I have talked it over with my wife and she thinks he’d be fine as the pro has a really nice way with the kids and as I’ve said he does love the pro. At the moment he plays with the other kids each week on the course and the pro goes round all the kids, so he is getting some direction at the moment (from me also) – it’s more essential basics like grip and feet etc – but the pro explains it in such an easy way he understands and remembers. I think it may be too much to take in lessons on the range, but going out with the pro and me onto the course to play a few holes would be more fun. Love the suggestions of chipping some balls for me to catch, he’d like that game.
  4. My son is five and absolutely loves the game. It stated in nursery as soon as he could walk - he was given a wooden spoon and (wooden) egg to play with ... he put the egg on the floor and swung at it. He broke every plastic set of clubs he had swinging them so got a little club when he was about 3. He's been coming out playing local pitch and putts and started playing on full size courses (usually playing half a hole on the par 4's) a few months ago. Whenever we go out people stop and watch and shout over (he's so small and looks out of place on a course until he hits the ball ... an incredible sight). He's been going to a kids club each week where the kids play together for an hour or two. He's scoring better than most (av age is 9). Seems he's naturally talented (unbelievably so) and he loves the game. I'm torn between doing what he's doing or also putting him in with the pro (who he loves) for more one to one work. Any thoughts?
  5. I have always used a carry bag ... and currently have a stand bag. I've recently started using a trolley for full rounds, but the stand bag i have doesn't fit too well on it. I only use the trolley on full rounds, but often go out and play just a few holes of half a round as i work away and stay at a hotel with a golf club so i'll carry the bag for convenience. If i get a cart bag though it will be heavier and won't stand up .... so i'll need the trolley. Anny ideas, any hybrid bags out there??
  6. Can a specialist wedge improve my short game? I currently use the PW that came with my set, what are the plus points for having a specialist wedge in the bag?
  7. Thanks, i'll try that ... however, i've just had my son take some photo's in the back garden of my swing .. i'm horrified at how flat the backswing it, club lower than my shoulders at the top of the swing ... how do i correct that?
  8. I've often played with a fade with my driver ... however last couple of rounds i've been pretty wild off the tee and with my 3 iron hybrid off the floor too ... starting off right and slicing further right - but my irons have been okay. I do have quite a flat swing so i think it must be that which is opening my clubface up, and maybe my body is moving ahead of my arms - i've tried getting my arms to move a bit quicker and working my hands too and it's gone a bit better, although still inconsistant ... any tips ... how do i stop it going so far right, and how do i work on getting a steeper back swing??
  9. without a doubt work on your short game ... i used to go out and play 12 holes in the eveving whenever i could ... rather than that i spend more time pitching 50-70 yds and play just a few holes for fun .. my chipping has got very good and it's helped my longer irons too, i've dropped a good 4-6 shots. Also, i used to try and par every hole, now i play every hole aiming for bogey, the pars come along the way, and i don't get doubles (or worse) on my card anymore as i play more sensibly. Good luck!
  10. I went to look at a new 5 wood and hit a few, the pro gave me a few hybrids to try ... i found the Adams IDEAL 3 iron hybrid went further and was much more consistent than the 5 woods - also easier to hit out of rough. My favourite golf club of all time, and i only got it a few months ago!!!
  11. try the hybrid more towards the middle of your stance rather than the ball at your level heal ... should help with the topping and your results will be better than your irons!!! Good luck!
  12. Adams - A3 Ideal ... http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22948
  13. I had pretty much the same problem but i just used to go out on the course and play rather than spend any time on the practice ground .. so i've changed my habits. Rather than play 9 holes in the morning or evening in the week i take 30 balls onto the practice ground .. and place a marker 50 yards away ... pitch 30 up to the marker using a PW, and 30 back ... then increase the distance and do the same - i may hit 120 - 150 pitches then play just a few holes for fun. I found after just one or two of these sessions i got into a rytham with my pitching which has really helped my overall game too, hitting long irons better too. What i have found when i'm faced with a 50-80 yard pitch on the course, i can visulaise what i've done on the practice ground which helps me and gives me confidence in playing the shot. I read another thread on this site ... about getting a single figure handicap ... http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthr...t=10993&page;=6 and many messages say concentrate on your short game more ... which i believe is key to me personally getting down low. All the best!!
  14. Thanks for this, i may be being dumb, i always thought they took the 3 cards scores together, but the handicap is derived from the best card (reducing triple bogey's to doubles)? Am I correct in this understanding? Thanks.
  15. I recently bought an Adams Ideal 3 iron hybrid. They also do it in a bigger head but the pro told me the standard head can be hit easily out of rough. He was right. It's a tremendous club off fairway, tee or rough, cuts through the rough great! Would recommend it!!
