  1. Literally, the cheapest good-condition ball you can find. If you are just starting, it will be months, years before it will make any difference.
  2. I don't understand your comment about Tiger... 99% of all pro's use overlap grip. As for baseball grip, I have had to go to that due to an injury. I may wrong but I seen to recall that Lance Ten Broek or however you spell it... a pro from years ago... used baseball grip.
  3. Anyone have advice what a low handicap player should buy? I know that's subjective but does anyone have any comments? Just getting back into golf after quitting for five years; I'm not up on all the equipment. I have a new driver that I am hitting farther than I ever have. My drives are now regularly 250-270 and I've hit some absolute monsters. I had 155 yards into a 500 yard par five last week! I've never hit one that far. (Did have a tailwind, though.) I need a weapon for par fives. If I bust it down the middle and have 225 yards to a par five, man, I just gotta go for it. I had that exact shot twice yesterday and blew it. I could buy two clubs, one for, say 225 and one for longer. Or just one if I could make it work by choking down. I'd rather have just one fairway wood if possible, to make room for another wedge. So, I need something that I can 225-245. Of course, I could also use this club off the tee on certain holes. Whatever this club is, I need to be able to hit it relatively accurately, as there is usually trouble around a green and sometimes, the penalty is severe. FWIW, I don't hit my irons far. (7i, 150-155 yds) And I have never been a big hitter for fairway woods. I just hit it decently long with driver, as the ball is on a tee and I can swing harder, I guess. I also might have to put in a certain shaft, unless I luck up and find a club that I hit well. For years, I favored a UST Proforce 65. I have that in my current component driver and again, I do like it. Then again, if there is a better UST shaft for me than that one, let me know. Anyone have an opinion as to whether to try a fairway wood or a hybrid? I just looked at Nickent 5DX Ironwood... interesting. To recap: longgggggggg good off tight lies good off tee as well accurate Wow, that seems like the ultimate request, haha. FWIW, I used to have a Callaway 3metal... it was nuts how straight and accurate I hit that thing. Only problem was I couldn't hit it very far. But wow, it was amazing regarding hitting my target. I also would consider a component... my buddy makes clubs and is good at it and they are WAY cheaper. He made my driver and putter. (I saw a Mizuno belly putter yesterday that I liked... $325... I couldn't believe it! He can make me clubs for SO much less!)
  4. I have been out of golf for five years and I don't know what's going on with equipment. When I quit, I was playing ProV1. I have to have a ball like that because I like to spin it. Of course, you want all the length you can get and Prov1 is fine there. Today, I think I will try Prov1x. But... I am one who likes a bargain... are there any balls that are close to ProV1 in performance but don't cost as much? I pay $45/doz. If I found something close, it would have to be, say, $35/doz or less or else I will just play Prov1. I tried to locate some logo overrun Prov1's but I didn't find any at a good price. And I would buy a few dozen to get a good price.
  5. Gee whiz, there are so many! So far, I have decided I don't want a laser; I had one and it worked well but GPS seems better for shots other than the flag. As for what I gotta have, I gotta have one where you can move the target and it tells you how far... like you can move the pin from the middle to wherever you think it is. Also, I want it to show how far to a target and how far from there to green. I also like the ones that show the distance without you punching a button, it's continually updating as you move. Cost is not much of an issue. I don't want to get royally ripped off but I do consider this an essential device and I'd like to buy one I will be pleased with. There are so many!
  6. I am trying to figure out the best loft for my driver. I bought the lowest loft they make but still it goes plenty high. It just seems to me that low trajectory, well-hit drives go farther. Assuming that the fairway is not wet. But, isn't the optimum launch angle for sending any object the farthest (say, a bullet)... 45 degrees? I'm sure a golf drive has more physics involved than that, but, suffice to say, it seems to me that of the thousands of drives I have seen over many years of play... the well-hit lower trajectory drive goes farther. Then again, I note that when I watched John Daly play my home course, he hit the ball very high, indeed.
  7. Can anyone give a brief description of what shot tracking is? And voice recognition... how will that work?
  8. Is Nike One a hard ball or softer like a Prov1?
  9. I did witness Jack's play and he was amazing but to me, there is no question that Tiger is the best I have ever seen.
  10. I used to use a 56 deg sand wedge, then I went to a 60 degree for several years. For most shots... throw it near the hold and spin it or roll out a few feet. And I did it pretty well. But... the best chippers I have ever seen roll the ball to the hole. Get in on the green asap. So, now, I generally use whatever club it takes to do that unless the shot calls for a spinner or flop... 6i to lob wedge.
