Motion is Lotion Did a new one yesterday. I did all my stretching in the whirlpool. It was great ! I am going to continue that. The hot water keeps the muscles nice and lose. I can bike over to the Y, do the stretches, swim my laps, and play water basketball

there is nothing like riding off into the sunset on a bike

That is a great post . Not only are you getting in shape, but you are adding to the community. My hats off to you.

There is nothing wrong with setting the bar high, just do not set it so high that is not fun.

Don't sell yourself short . You may have taken that wrong tern unconsciously in order to fulfill that extra effort you were looking for.
-
that is even better right ?
-
Suggestion. : instead of measuring yourself against others who did better , be glad you are involved in a program of fitness. Maybe 3000 people did better than you, but millions are doing nothing at all.

sounds like time for a backpack with a six pack LOL

Doesn't that make it difficult to ride with clothes hanging on it ?

You hit upon another great point, the breathing. Nothing is taken for granted more than the breathing. I have a video of an interview with Aaron Rodgers of the Packers. It was taken after the Dallas Cowboys game a few years ago, when he led a drive in the playoffs to beat the Cowboys in the closing seconds. He was asked what he was thinking about as he waited on the sidelines to go back on the field for that last drive. He replied " I was not thinking about anything. I was listening to my breath. I wanted to make sure it was smooth and easy so I would remain calm and relaxed. Arron does Yoga.

It did not get to be 5000 years old by not working. Gymnastics and PT use a lot of the same principles. If you are doing some flow, then you are helping your golf game because it keeps the muscles working together as a unit, dynamically. Keep up the good work.

It sure does . It is a lot harder then people think. I have been doing it and teaching it for 23 years.

yes, it is amazing how many other things we did not feel as a kid that we feel now. It is like discovering things we never knew we had

Very good, you are setting a great example of someone who benefits from low impact exercise and walking is the best. It is especially helpful to walk on grass instead of pavement. Since there is give in the ground this works more of the muscles in the feet. Walter Payton, the great running back said he ran hills and mountains as part of his training because it best simulated what his muscles would experience on the football field. He attributed that to less injuries to his body.

Walking is the best form of exercise

Don't feel alone. Most people don't understand them. I have been crucified on this forum for illustrating them, so now I only post to older golfers because the young ones only believe in weights. As we age the muscles tend to tighten up and that is when we need the stretching the most. Actually the walking does count, but you could enhance that by carrying your clubs overhead, jogging in-between holes, and doing jumping jacks when you sink a put .

I only asked about age not height. Age is what we have to look out for because it creeps up I would add some mobility exercises in as you go along. As I look at peoples workouts, I rarely see them incorporating mobility exercises into their routines. Weight lifters especially do add muscle, but at the same time are tightening that muscle, by creating tension. The muscle needs to be strong but flexible.

Still young enough for heavy weights. When you hit 40-45 you may want to re evaluate your workout. The body changes a lot over the years.
-
How old are you ?
-
If you are still feeling it today then it counts

yes, I am coming out with a program for golfers over 50 and may have Sandtrap become a sponsor . The body changes over time as we age and we have to change with it. We can still challenge it but have to change our thinking. We can still lift weights but the goal of seeing how much we lift is a receipt for injury. I am 71 and my definition for building strength is no longer about building muscle but is more about building what I call connective strength, that is getting the muscle groups to work together as a unit and dynamically because that is how the body works. I like 50 because it is around that time when most people are willing to change because what worked for their younger body no longer serves them. Thanks for posting !

In my 23 years of teaching and doing exercise programs, I have found that many people do not know what is safe for them because they have not learned to listen to their bodies. Most of the time newbies watch others and think if they can not do what others can do they are failing. Of course we know that is not true. I was just in the whirlpool last week. I have just restarted a swim program. I went and did a few laps and came back to the whirlpool. The gentleman in the pool said to me " that did not take you long" I told him I was starting slow and he shared an experience with me how he went back to the weights after some time off. and tried to get back to his old numbers too quickly and messed up his shoulder for months. I believe anyone can get hurt at anytime if they are not focused on how their body is responding to that particular exercise at that particular time. Thanks for posting !

If you don't use it you lose it and I have been around enough people who have not used it. LOL
