  1. that must have been it. now I have to see what else they have on clearance!
  2. I went to Golf Galaxy today to get my brother a birthday present (Callaway Diablo 10* draw driver) and myself a new glove and a few dozen HX Hots. Once I filled my cart with these, I decided to browse the putter selection because I have been contemplating trying a blade putter as the mallet 2-ball Odyssey I have been playing just doesn't feel right to me. I've been eying an Odyssey Black Series (non-i) #1 for a few weeks now. Nice sleek profile, no insert. Just what I wanted. Saw one on their rack (they don't advertise selling the non-i black series on their website) so I decided to play around a bit on their putting green with it. All I can say is I fell in love! Price tag read $250, I figured I might get lucky and it be marked down to $199 like it is everywhere else. Get to the counter and the woman ringing me up says to me "Your lucky day, its on clearance." I inquire how much and she tells me "$49.99." Needless to say, I almost pooped myself, kept my mouth shut, payed for everything, and RAN out the door. Everywhere I've looked online this evening shows that putter for $199 at the cheapest, and Golf Galaxy still doesn't list it on their website as available at their stores. Did I miss a memo, or did I make out like a bandit?!
  3. I like playing my X Prototypes with my 30+ handicap because it has truly and honestly made me a better ball striker. Toe it with my X18's, not TERRIBLE results. Toe it with the X Prototypes and there's no doubt in your mind you've made poor contact. Good hits feel like butter and I LOVE the look of the clubs both in the bag and from address.
  4. I think I'll be giving the BCT's a shot. I've heard through another forum that the MC becomes a bit slick when wet. Truth to this??
  5. I know the MC grips are mostly corded. I should've been more specific as to why I didn't like the full cord Lamkins. The grip on them is great. No slip at all. They're just a bit rough on my hands. I like the soft feel of the Tour Velvets, but my hands tend to slip on hard swings during very hot/humid rounds. I see the MC grips as a compromise between soft feel and traction.
  6. When I first got my X Prototypes, they came with Golf Pride Tour Velvets. They play nicely, but I decided to try out some cord grips and put Lambkin cords on my 7-PW just to see how they played. Bottom line is I don't like them that much and would like to give another grip a shot. How does everyone feel about the Golf Pride Multi-Compounds? I've held some and taken a few swings with a friends clubs that have them and they feel pretty nice. How do they wear? Pros/cons vs the Tour Velvets? Thanks. Brandon
  7. I would just like a new bag! I'm looking into the callaway orig 14 stadium bag. Also, need a SW as my X protos didn't include one, so need to order an x forged 56* wedge. Debating a 52* or so wedge to make 14.
  8. I played those same clubs up until June. They were my first set a few years ago when I first tried (unsuccessfully) to get into golf. Like everyone else said, until you have a steady income, get a sand wedge and spend your money on lessons and practice.
  9. Well, as evidence by the number to the left of this post, my handicap is nothing even close to write home about. I just started golfing this year and decided to splurge and go from Callaway X18's to X prototype forged blades in an attempt to work on my ball striking. Over the past week, I have noticed an increase in feedback from my clubs which have lead to my change in address and set up which has REALLY improved my ball striking in the last week alone. I see them as a great learning tool for me. I'll be starting weekly lessons next week and I'll report back more then. I say, if you have the money and the desire, buy a set of blades!
  10. 5'11" and I use a 33"
  11. It is a very nice combination. The heads are quite small. I can't compare them to other irons via photo for you, but when I do take and upload the photos of mine I'll compare them to my X18s. Just side by each, the X proto's are quite smaller with a MUCH thinner top profile (never realized how thick the X18's top line is!). I tried the X tours and the X Prototypes before I bought the prototypes. I hit both rather well on the range (they belonged to two different friends), and really wanted to stay all Callaway. I'm very happy with them.
  12. The X22s are cavity back GI's. The X prototypes are muscle back players irons. Ah, yes, and about $600 more
  13. Hey, got the Rifle Project X 6.5 shafts. Ordered them from GolfSmith What new irons are you waiting on?
  14. Got them in the mail today! Unwrapped them and drove directly to the driving range. Took out the PW, took a deep breath, and hit it PERFECTLY! I immediately looked at the club face, and sure enough, a few shavings of white ball cover right on the grooves dead center on the milled face! Continued to hit about 250 balls, while sweating my own two off in the 90's weather we somehow found ourselves with today. I just did not want to put the clubs down! And true to what everyone here said, mishits were definitely more noticeable than with the X18's! The only problems I had were with anything above the 5i. I couldn't seem to connect properly and when I did, I ended up with a pretty decent slice. I'll be continuing to work on this, and might even give them the nod in a 9 hole practice round this sunday. I'll post pictures as soon as I find the memory card for my camera!
  15. I play for one or two good holes a round to keep my clubs off of eBay. Lately, I hit my irons really well, but can't putt to save my life, and I'm fighting a mighty nasty slice on my driver! My score really suffers there.
