slice due to shaft flex or bad swing mechanics

i went to edwin watts just a little while ago and was swinging away with the new taylor made burner driver with a regular flex and 10.5 loft. my swing speed averaged around 89mph but i wasnt swinging as hard as i normally would since i was all over the screen with my shots, so i pulled the reins back a little and things got a little better, but it appears to be more about my mechanics or lack their of than the flex, although he had me try a stiff flex driver i was still all over the screen but it felt better especially at impact. i was able to rachet off several good fairway hits with the stiff flex driver. when i did connect with it it was a sweet feeling. since i have read that most drivers are pretty long and choking up can help improve accuracy i decided to choke up to see if that improved my accuracy and it did a little, but i just think my swing at this moment in time looks very similar to an unfolding lawn chair. so gotta get that part figured out first before i worry about shaft flex. at least thats what im thinking. please let me know your thoughts. -
slice due to shaft flex or bad swing mechanics

if i were to reshaft my irons with the same steel metal shaft from Taylor Made just in the stiff version, what is the ballpark figure i can expect to reshaft? ive seen about $250 for steel and $350 depending on the brand of the shaft and grip. im planning on going into an Edwin watts today and do the performance fitting as they call it on their website. are they pretty good at doing club fittings? ive heard they charge around $35 for the fitting. my hybrids and irons currently have the following shafts: 3 & 4 hybrids Superfast Graphite shaft, Regular flex, 60 grams 5-PW Burner 85 Superfast Steel shaft, Regular flex -
so i have been out working on my swing at the local park using the birdie ball product. i feel like my swing is really starting to come together but i notice that if i really put some power into my shots that all my balls are slicing. if i back off and refrain from blasting the ball they seem to go straight or have a slight push, pull to them. could the slicing be due to my swing mechanics or more because of my shaft flex on my clubs? currently i have the taylor made burner plus combo set (hybrids are regular graphite flex, irons are regular steel shafts). i have heard that if you have the wrong shaft flex, particularly too soft and you put too much power into your swing that you are more than likely going to slice the heck out of it, so the resolution are to restrict/reduce your swing speed, or reshaft. any help would be great in this matter......

R7 limited or a burner drivers
golfnuub replied to golfnuub's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
any thoughts/comments on the TM burner 3 & 5 woods? it appears as though they are from the the 07,08 line. i need some fairway woods as well and came across a good deal and wanted to get some feedback. are the fairway woods by TM just as good as the drivers they have, or should i be looking at something else for a good 3 and 5 wood? i already have the TM burner combo which comes with the 3 and 4 hybrid so should i get a 5 wood? yea i just need to get my butt to a golf shop and get fitted and figure out my swing speed, shaft flex and all that stuff to help me make a decision and choose the right driver. the only golf shop i know of near me is an edwin watts, does anyone know of other golf shops in the south florida/ft lauderdale area that i should look at/consider? How much does Edwin watts charge to get fitted? -
R7 limited or a burner drivers
golfnuub replied to golfnuub's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i saw sports authority was carrying a burner driver for $149.99 is that the 07 one? i did not see any documentation stating it was or wasnt. i know its not the 09 since those are going for $199.99 there. what makes the 07 one better than the 09? is it just that its more forgiving? what about distance with the 07 and the other three i mentioned above? -
im looking at purchasing a driver and came across 3 drivers and wanted to get some feedback as to what you think is the best and a better option for me. im just getting back into golf so i have a lot of work to do on my swing and have yet to start playing and rounds yet. im sticking to the driving range and putting greens for awhile to dial in my swing and improve on my short game and putting and when im not there im at a near by park swinging away with the birdie ball. my current handicap is high and it appears so far i have a tendency to slice although im in the process of fixing that. The 3 drivers i found are all brand new Taylor Made: R7 limited for $169.99 09 burner $179.99 burner tour $129.99 im not sure which one is better than the others or if there is any real/major difference between the three so any help would be appreciated. i like the price of the burner tour, i also like the movable weights in the R7 limited, and i like the 09 burner has i have heard many positive things/reviews, plus its the latest and greatest of the 3 im looking at although since TM releases new clubs alot im not sure if there is a significant difference between the 09 one and the others. thanks to all who reply...

has anyone seen this before and what does it mean? im trying to find it if the whole set has no warranty or just the 7 iron or why Taylor Made stamped no warranty on one of the irons? found these on ebay, the seller says no returns. im not sure if the others have it or not since this was the only image that was close enough to see this. -

ok thanks for the info. i found a set of TM R7 TP in a 3-pw with stiff steel shaft, but have read these are for low to mid handicappers typically. will these be a little too much for me at this point since i am just getting back into the game again? -

anyone using the TM Rossa Itsy Bitsy Spider Putter? how does that compare to the Odyssey 2ball Black Series putter? will i be ok with just a driver and 3 wood, or is it best to carry the 5 wood in the bag as well? -

thanks everyone for the replies. my budget is around $800-$1100, the lower the better though in this economy :). unfortunately my winning powerball numbers havent hit the paydirt yet so no i do have a budget.... shindig can the TM burner irons be considered moderate GI irons? i found them for $629 used which was the combo set (3h, 4h 5-pw with regular graphite shaft) and from what i have read they are really good, plus i have read that hitting hybrids is a lot easier than hitting the 2 or 3 irons. for a beginner should i bother getting a 5wood as well or just stick with the driver and 3 wood, as well as a 3 & 4 hybrid? i have no clue where to even start looking to find a good place or person to get lessons from? anyone know any good teachers to recommend that are in the south florida area? -
well i have decided to get back into golf after my 14 year hiatus and need a lot of advice but for now will start with clubs and take it from there. my goal is to get serious about the game more than a weekend warrior and maybe one day be a scratch golfer....... so i have been looking at clubs for the past month too see whats out there, what will work best for me. i am looking at used clubs for now and have been looking at the following used iron sets: either Callaway's X-20 4-pw with callaway uniflex steel shafts, the X-22 with callaway graphite stiff shafts, or 2009 Taylor Made Burner Plus with the 3h, 4h and 5-pw with Reax Superfast 60 gram Regular Flex graphite shafts. can anyone comment or suggest if these will be some good gi clubs for me or have any other suggestions? Need some help with the driver, fairway woods, and a good putter as well so fire away on suggestions please. i have been looking briefly at the tm burner drivers or the callaway bertha. i have not gone in to swing any of these clubs i have mentioned. I was planning on going in for a custom fit at a local pro shop down here in south florida but i have read/heard that since i dont have a good consistent swing yet that it would be pointless to be custom fitted, not sure if that holds true or not so please clarify. i am about 6ft 195. thanks for everyone who posts....
