Nice, it really does look to be a decent course. Probably head up there in the near future! Exactly right, 23*. The feel I got from contact in the shop was great, but the true test will be the range tomorrow, and 18 on saturday. The Di-7's I got recently were 4-SW so if this goes well, I'll probably look into a lower * loft hybrid to bridge the gap between the woods. We'll see!

Welp, drove through to American Golf and as soon as I mentioned the word "hybrid" I was thrust at stuff I couldn't afford. I stumbled across their secondhand club display (which I didn't even realise they had) and ended up buying a used Cobra Baffler 4H which looked like it had been used once, the person got disgusted that their new club was slightly scuffed and sold it. £50. Bargain. Thanks for the help guys, I'll see you next time I need some advice

Also, not gonna lie, for £15 that course at Ingleby Barwick looks like a lot of fun to play. I'd much rather play those nine holes twice than pay the same to play at my local muni, heh. Thanks for the tip-off =)

Nice, I'll definately check those out. American Golf is where I've been going in York, so I guess I'll have a change of scenery and go to the AG in Middlesbrough and check out the pro shops you mentioned. I'm already going into York tomorrow to meet someone, so I'll stop by AG and have a quick test of some of the hybrids mentioned earlier in the thread. I'm definately an impulse buyer though so something may get bought in the heat of the moment tomorrow We'll see~

Yeah, I was thinking of going for one of a loft between or around the 3i-4i range, and possibly one of a lower loft as well, to kinda bridge the gap, so to speak. Kellfire, just out of curiosity, are there any big golf stores up in or around Middlesbrough? I'm currently having to drive to York, so it'd be pretty much six and two threes to drive there instead and if I have a chance at a better selection of clubs to try it'd definately be worth it~

Myeah, the limiting factor is that the only golf retailer in any form of vicinity (we're talking 45 minute drives here) only has a bay, which means I can't see a proper shot, only my ball hitting a net and a general feel of the club. I'm pretty uncomfortable with this, especially as a high handicapper as I can't really mind-link with the feeling of connection and determine what's going to be a super awesome good shot or what's going to end up curling off to the right/left, there's only so much I can gather from a bay testing. I'm going on monday, so I'll tell you guys what happened. Meanwhile, I'll curse my 4 iron in my sleep. Thanks for the replies again, it's much obliged.

Updates. I went back to the driving range (just got back) and hit ~80 balls with my 4 iron. I was getting about 2/3 of them in a straight line, which actually surprised me for the good, but I was only getting them between 160-175 yards. I was warming up with my 7 iron, which was dropping just short of the 175 sign and rolling. So uh, what? I'm still massively dissatisfied with my 4 iron, and I'll still be shopping for a hybrid/rescue, but yeah, what's up with this?

Thanks for the replies guys, much obliged! I've got a shortlist of recommendations crossed with what was in stock that they've held for me to try out, which consists of the TM Burner rescue, a Cobra Baffler, and the Wilson FYbrid he tried to offer me when I was there before. Unfortunately, there's none of the other recommendations available (no Adams at all, no RAM hybrids) so that'll have to make do for now at least. I'll get to the shop and try those out and let you know what happens =) Kellfire, I live in Ripon, North Yorkshire and play around that area. For now, as I get back into the game, I'm sticking to a local muni at Spofforth, near Harrogate, but I've been around the area when I was younger. Playing at Romanby near Northallerton next Saturday, they've got some twilight deals going that I couldn't pass up =) How about yourself? I assume when you say 'north-east', you're located on or around the Newcastle area and I'm technically a Southerner to you

I apologise for the vague nature of all of my posts, but hey. I'm not well versed in anything (yet?) so I need all the help I can get. I recently bought a set of WS Di-7's, 4-SW, and immediately had an argument with my 4 iron. Everything that could have gone wrong, did. So, I decided it was time to move on, and hop on the hybrid train. The thing is, I know absolutely nothing about hybrids. When I played golf as a kid, they were but a twinkle in someone's eye. This is where you guys come in! I'm looking for something to make me doe-eyed with infatuation. When I bought the Di-7's, the sales-guy immediately tried to push a FYbrid onto me, but I told him I'd like to try to come to terms with one thing at a time. So, seeing as the nearest golf shop is a fair trek away, is there anything I should put on the 'to try' list that you guys could recommend? Again, sorry for the vague nature of the post, but I really have not even a slither of a clue about hybrids so would appreciate all the (hopefully impartial) help I can get. Thanks in advance!

Finally played Pebble...my experience

Spectacular. Congratulations on making fantasy reality and making all of your peers green with envy -
Seeing a set of clubs on someone that would have cost a second mortgage to buy and then seeing them shoot scores darts players would be proud of. I hate people who think they can instantaneously buy a better game and not have to practice like everybody else.

1) Iron out swing faults. Everyone has this, so I'll hold the description. 2) Become more consistent. Pounding a drive can wait, I'd like the ability to be able to hit the same club the same distance every time. Short game++ 3) Break 90. I get the feeling that if I achieve 2), or work hard at 2), this will follow very shortly after. 4) Less of a thing to put work into, but just get braver. I'll never attempt a shot that could possibly result in a hazard or OB. Balls to the wall approaches over danger DO work, and they yield results. So I guess 4) is actually "grow a pair".

Shameless self-bump I know, but today was the first time I got a proper trial from the Di-7's I bought. "Holy crap" is an understatement. I was hitting at least 2 clubs 'up' on my previous set, a lot straighter and a lot more often. It's safe to say I won't be replacing these any time soon

As soon as I walked in, before I could even say "Hello, I rang ahead to ask about the Di-7's" one of the salesmen told me about a deal involving the Ci-7's, which came with a free bag. The package approached ~£350 which was well above what I was willing to spend, but he still wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise until he was done regailing me with information about it. As far as I could tell in-store and from looking online, the deal only applies to the Ci-7's

Well, I ended up going into AG to try out the Di-7's and after telling them I could get them for £180 elsewhere, they immediately slashed their price to £180, no questions asked. I was half angry at the fact that they're blatantly just adding ridiculous markup to their prices if they're so willing to cut it from the original £250, but that was quickly replaced with a smile after trying the set out. So, this concludes my search for iron replacements I guess. Next up is a hybrid!

Yeah, I got a similar response from a friend over an IM. Iron sets that interest me on there are the Adams A2's , the Wilson Di-7's , and, at a push, the TM r7's . As mentioned before, it'll be a little while before I can get into an American Golf to test any out, so does anyone have any distinguishing opinions on pros or cons on these? I've read some reviews but would like some extra opinions if anyone would like to offer some! edit: AG has the Di-7's and the r7's, but no A2's for testing. Would still appreciate any info~

Wait, really? Seems I didn't do my homework properly, couldn't find anything about international shipping. Having another look, they list a general "set of irons" at 8Lb, which would be an extra $55 on top of the cost. I've seen a lot of deals which would work out cheaper than AG even with that $55 shipping charge. This raises the issue of being able to test clubs. I would, of course, like to try out anything before I buy it, which would be made impossible unless I can cheekily pop into an American Golf nearby and try the irons there. The big concern if that plays out, and I did buy from rockbottom (and I'm a blank slate here, so bear with me) is getting fitted. Is it frowned upon to attend a course pro shop or similar place to get your fit only to end up purchasing your clubs elsewhere? Morally I'd feel bad about 'abusing' a free service only to leave with no repayment for their charity. I could even walk into an AG with my iron set they sell themselves and tell them I bought them recently and would like them fit properly. Heh. Regardless, this opens up a couple new opportunities. To keep the same budget, I'd be spending £170/~$300 minus shipping. Since I'm unable to access an AG store for testing for a little while, is there anything to put on the "to try" list that jumps out for you guys? Any replies and help is much obliged, trying to sift through amateur review sites is a flurry of all-caps hyperbole

Hi there, first proper post. I'm a UK resident, played golf recreationally from ~14-16, stopped because of education, and picked it up again. I've since gotten back into it, and I'm looking to completely replace the prefab set I originally started with (notably because I've quite outgrown them~). I've browsed around this forum through similar threads, picked up a load of recommendations for similar inquiries relating to my budget, wrote down a couple names and off I went. Unfortunately, I'm either stymied by supply stores without the sets I went to enquire about, or I'm missing a major UK supplier that would provide these. The top of the table (within my price bracket of ~ So, with nothing else at hand, I visited a nearby branch of American Golf and was directed towards this set of Wilson Deep Reds, around my price range and seemingly with complementary fitting. Reviews online said they were a solid set of irons for the mid-high handicapper, but the sensible consumer in me decided to get opinions and such from other people before diving in headfirst. I hit some in the in-store bay into a net, felt real nice, but without a round/proper range test I can't be conclusive. Long story short, does anyone have any alternate iron recommendations I could go out and test(specifically available from UK stockists, most US sites refuse to mail over here or the price difference is quashed by shipping), or any superior UK stockists? Sorry for the mini-essay, by the way. Edit for afterthought: Overseas stockists that ship to the UK would be great as well.

Gillette run an ad campaign in the UK (no idea about overseas?) that features Tiger, Federer and Thierry Henry. I feel kinda bad for Henry being lined up against pretty much the biggest names in sport right now, whilst he's only really a name around Europe. My vote would go to Tiger though.

I'm in my final year of my Biochemistry BSc at Warwick University in the UK, hoping to go on to further studies in Pharmacology. Hopefully I'll end up in R&D;, preferably in some area of drug design~
