Sorry. I said "oh sh&t;" out loud as it happened and my wife asked me what I was swearing about and I told her that Johnson grounded the club in the hazard. But enough about me, ESPN reported that tour players watching the TV in the Whistling Straits clubhouse were commenting out loud telling Johnson throught the TV set to be careful ... so there you go.
-
Agreed. A teenage golfer knows better to ground a club in sand and a pro golfer knows better than to make such an assumption OR to do anything like that without a ruling FIRST. Might be ANOTHER problem though. ESPN claims that Johnson's caddie put his bag down in the bunker. That's another two stroke penalty. So, the question now becomes did Johnson put the right score down on his scorecard? Then it becomes did he just sign an incorrect scorecard? Signing an incorrect scorecard means DQ. It happened to Michelle Wie a couple years ago for signing a scorecard after not realizing she grounded a club in the hazard, so ... Questions, questions questions ....

Either this forum is open for free and honest discussion within the (limited) confines of the posted FAQ or it's not. The whole country is speculating about what happened and if the one place it's off limits is a golf discussion forum just say the word and I'll go elsewhere. Also, if you want to quote me, do (at least) the pertinent quote, not hack out little snippets.

Well .... "racing outside" after hearing a crash sounds like the crash of a car window not the car hitting something. That or the neighbors race outside a lot slower than a woman with a golf club, who has time to break a window, unlock the door, and dragging her husband out of the car. If so, funny how Tiger's wife hears the sound of the accident yet the neighbors only heard the sound of the glass. Otherwise, they would have gotten to Tiger about when the wife did. So, we're left with precious little other than rumors of people moving faster than Tiger's car.

Well, I'm not knowledgeable about the law or Law and Order episodes, but the Florida Highway Patrol stated (as reported on ESPN) that it was highly unusual for their interviews to be declined. So, if they are lying I sure haven't heard the 'talking heads' say so. If they are telling the truth, then we should be able to put this 'average Joe' angle to bed.
-
Correct, he's not under arrest. But we were talking about the "average Joe." Average Joe declines to be interviewed, the cops then arrest him on suspicion of driving impaired and THEN he has his chance to used the 5th as he WILL be interviewed. It is mere speculation to whether the cops going down the domestic violence angle or not. ESPN reported today that the police supposedly want medical records including prescribed medications. Perhaps, if they find that Woods was being actively prescribed medications that shouldn't be used while driving, that arrest might still come. On ESPN's forum, people are wondering whether he might be hooked on pain medication related to his leg injury, speculating that it wasn't merely grit getting him through that U.S. Open. Certainly he wouldn't be the first or last athlete/celebrity to get hooked on pain pills.
-
That's not the point I raised so let me make myself clear. I raised the point of "turning away the Florida Highway Patrol" without an interview. So the question is not around pleading the 5th Amendment it's about not being interviewed at all. Sure, many/most people know about pleading the 5th - - that they know Florida law and know that they can completely decline an interview request with the highway patrol at all (thus not needing to exercise the 5th amendment)? That a big no.
-
Like Tiger knew he didn't have to talk to the Florida Highway Patrol before his lawyers telling him that fact. Or that most of you guys knew that as well before hearing it on the news. Right. Tiger must have studied that in Stanford.

YOU brought up cricket ranking "only behind soccer in terms of world wide following." Now, it's changed to American sports ... funny how that happens ... well that's wrong too but it's not the topic at hand. Field Hockey is bigger than cricket world-wide for Pete's sake AND is the national sport of India and is an Olympic sport. So, cricket is behind field hockey in world importance as a sport. Any further discussion necessary?

Moving past the scandalous aspects of this matter, what someone does after they've taken a blow may better define them. To me, I understand Tiger's decision not to play in his tournament ... but not to host it? I see that as a mistake. Suck it up, go to the tournament and represent. Dealing with the media? All he has to say is that he is taking no other questions other than those specifically related to the kids his charity is helping, the goals and results of the charity and the tournament field represented and if other questions persist the interview will conclude. It's not that hard and he doesn't look like some guy hiding in his house from the bully in the neighborhood. Well, it's a two-way street. An "average Joe" wouldn't be turning away the Florida Highway Patrol now would he?. As far as the police not being able to do anything ... absolutely false. There are plenty of so-called "victimless crimes" on the books. The police need only have a law on the books and pass judicial review of their actions with respect to the specific ordinance.

I have no idea what incidents you are referring to but ... did this "sort of thing" happen to Jack?

Tiger owns north of $100+ million in personal real estate.

Yet, 87 posts into this thread ... here you are.

It will be interesting to find out just how far this neighbor's tree was from Wood's driveway. I mean, it's not like Tiger's on a quarter acre lot ... he's got the big mansion ... so it's hard for me to envision he doesn't have a decent sized space on both sides of his house. Of course, it is plausible that they have a shared driveway arrangement or the two driveways meet pretty much at a 'V' by the street.

Just like on the golf course ... a driver that's erratic.

A company I worked for had a two club tourney every year. I used a 4 iron and (I think) a 9 iron when I came in second. I putted the ball playing lefty using the back side of the 4 iron. A guy I played with suggested that I should putt that way all the time.

None taken, it's just opinions being shared. Btw, Drake is a fine school, hope you are enjoying your time there. I used to go by the campus when I worked with a seed company (Syngenta) in Iowa and Minnesota. Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!

I don't think Tony will be picking Andrew to play head-to-head again anytime soon. The way I see it, Tony is extremely lucky that putt drops. If he misses, then the pressure is off Blake, who might have made that putt (without pressure). Sure, Tony can crush the ball, but his chipping and putting? No way does he have the game to make it as a touring pro.

Agreed, it's about different viewpoints. Mine is please don't make Tiger out to be Mr. Goodwill Ambassador for the game of golf. He's in Australia because he got a 3 million dollar appearance fee. There are precious view people on the planet that get less media time than Tiger. So, he knows exactly how he looks when he does the left-handed swing after making a bad drive, the 'how can I suck that bad' pout with his ball ending up on the green or the club whacking/tossing. So he knows what he looks like and (at this point) doesn't care about changing it. Nor is the media that depends on him for their salaries going to take him on. Obviously, a guy that has the discipline to be able to stop his shot mid-swing has the discipline to stop this crap if he wanted to.

+1 Well said.

Oh, please. Big sports stars are known by people that NEVER played the sport. Cricket ... great world wide following? That's a joke as the attached map shows. http://www.mapsofworld.com/world-cricket-map.htm

^^^^^^ Exactly. Made by creative editing.

Agreed. Sadly, Tim Finchem isn't going to do anything of consequence about this. He's scared witless that Woods will take the cream of the tour and start his own tour or cancel a bunch of appearances. Stars of the past like Nicklaus and Palmer may say a few things in private, but they have their own tournaments they want Tiger to show up at, so they won't be saying anything publicly on the subject. Meanwhile, I'm so tired of the antics ... the 'how could I hit it that bad' shot that lands on the green, the left handed club swing after missing a drive ... not to mention the club slamming and throwing. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I threatened my kids with substantial punishment if I ever saw or heard that they threw a club. That said, they both caddy at another golf course. They both mentioned that the reason they would never ever throw a club is how disgusted they are when they witnessed a grown man doing it. Funny how things differ from club to club. I've never seen anyone throw a club at my club and even smacking the ground with the club doesn't happen too often with the guys I play with. I did hear that someone actually whipped his club during a tournament. He has been 'exiled' for lack of a better word and immediately lost his regular game. I'm sure he's gotten the message loud and clear.

Interesting. I heard a Yankee fan at the party talking about dropping Damon ... all I could get out of him was ... 'well, he's getting older' great ... aren't we all?

I'm surprised there were not more comments on how awful this episode was. Worst so far. Like many, sorry to see Vincent go.
