There is that possibility too but I think he comes back more "at peace." No more, or at least less, club throwing, etc.
  2. I've always been in awe of Tiger and marvel at what he does with a golf ball. Like others, my main criticism on the course is the club throwing, cussing, etc. It kind of makes sense now. Not only did he have all the pressures of winning and being Tiger Woods in general, he also had all the secret stuff as well. His mental toughness has always been one of his greatest attributes and is probably all that kept him from snapping. Now, with a "freer" conscious, I would expect that to be even stronger making him even tougher to beat.
  3. Thanks. I'll check it out.
  4. For me, a shorter backswing equals more distance not less. At the end of the season I was making a conscious effort to shorten my backswing and I was absolutely slamming the ball. I even drove a 354 yd.par 4. - yes there was donwhill and hard ground involved but I usually forget that part. When my swing gets too long, I notice right away. My timing goes haywire and contact is all over the place. Occasionally, I will stumble into a great strike with the long swing but not very often. When I keep it short, I stay "connected" throughout the swing and I can feel the torque I've generated, and, probably more importantly, I can get my hands back in front of the ball at impact. Another pro that comes to mind would be Padraig Harrington. During one of the Fed Ex Cup tourneys last year, they broke down his swing. He was hitting a fairway wood and the shaft was pointing at about a 45 degree angle at the completion of his backswing. Never got anywhere close to parallel, and he hit it pretty far too. There are certainly others on the forum more qualified to help with swing issues but this works for me.
  5. I only have very basic cable - pretty much the networks, TBS, and various shopping channels. In other words no Golf Channel, which really limits my golf viewing to whatever CBS or NBC shows on the weekends. Does anyone know a site to view full rounds? Either current tourneys or maybe even some classics - Jack's '86 run at the Master's comes to mind. I saw in another thread someone mention streaming video at pgatour.com but I couldn't find any info on the site.
  6. I just strolled in fashionably late if it's still okay to join. Team name - Shipwrecks
  7. I've been hoping that the eGolf Tour would be coming to the area, but Chicago is just a tad too far - I'm downstate. Any chance of some downstate tourneys? If not, guess I'll have to pay more for the GC event.
  8. You're right, my wording could have been better. I understand the manufacturing process doesn't care how well you strike the ball. I said forged because all of the irons I demoed were smaller head, smaller sweet spot, less offset, etc, and all forged. I have been looking forged mostly for the immediate feedback on where I hit the ball on the clubface. I played some R7's earlier this year. The ball went straight, but I couldn't tell you where I was on the clubface, therefore, whether I had a good swing or not, which is just as important to me as a good shot. With these demos, I struck the ball most of the time, unfortunately, off center. Off center with forged equates to stinger hands, hence the, "Am I good enough" line. My hands hurt after hitting the Hogans.
  9. Thanks for the replies. I probably was overswinging, even though I kept telling myself not to. As for the length of the club, that is very possible. When I set up with my current clubs, the toe is off the ground. My pro had me hit off the board and said, due to my swing, no adjustment was needed. Since most of the demos are standard length, maybe these "Custom" made ones are a bit long. BTW I'm about 5' 8". Thanks again for the help.
  10. I played today. Stunk up the back a bit, but 70 degrees in November is a bonus no matter what score.
  11. I've been in the market for new irons recently and have seen a recurring problem when demoing. I seem to be hitting the majority of shots thin. It doesn't matter where I am hitting either - inside, outdoors, off a mat, grass. The only constant is that the irons are all forged. Am I trying to do too much? Nervous? Or, is my swing not as ready for forged as I thought? I've been playing a set of Titleist Clones for about 12 years. I really know these clubs and what I can and cannot do with them - mostly cannot, lol. I'm looking at forged for the feedback you get. I recently demoed the new Titleist 710cb and when I did hit it square, wow, it was smooth, but the reality is that I only hit a few on the screws and most were pretty thin. I really wanted to like them too. Beautiful clubs. The pro I've been going to is lining up a set of AP2's for me to try. I know a few low cappers on here play them but I'm wondering if they might be too good for me. I need a set I can "grow" with as my handicap comes down. The wife is not protesting new clubs, but a set now and another next year might be pushing it, lol. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  12. Been lurking on the forum for awhile and thought I'd throw a little introduction out there. I've been golfing for several years. Most of those seasons I never got out there as often as I'd like and only played a handful of times, yet I still made progress. This year, after two tournaments rounds where I completely choked and embarassed myself, I re-committed to the game. Lessons, new driver, new putter, better practice, and a new attitude have helped me make some breakthroughs in the last couple of months, just in time for the season to end *grr*. The handicap in my profile is really a guess. Most of my rounds have been between 79 (Woohoo! Finally) to 85, with most clustered around 82-83. I have shot low 80's before but never on a regular basis. Next season I plan to play as many tournaments as I can. We have an amateur tour in the area that has 10 or 12 events and most are flighted. There's also the Golf Channel Amateur Tour, which is pricey IMO, but the only options. Maybe with enough pressure experience, I can keep from choking and post a respectable score. There's some good advice coming through this forum and I look forward to tapping into it.
  13. I picked up this putter at Golf Discount recently and thought, wow, now this is a putter! The balance on it was so good and the ball rolled smooth as silk. Definately the best putter I've tried. Unfortunately, it was a bit out of my range. I ended up with a Crimson Series Blade which I like almost as much.
  14. I'm a lab tech in a hospital. Bad part is I have to work some weekends, but I do get days off during the week when the courses are less crowded.
  15. I'm also looking at the combo sets - both Titleist, Bridgestone, and Nike. I have recently taken the step of aiming for the middle of the green and trying to work the ball toward the pin with the short irons. It really changes the game and makes it a lot more fun. Especially when you pull it off! Unfortunately, I still need a bit of help on the long irons. It might be as much mental as anything but I don't hit my 3 or 4 as well as I think I should. I hit my 5 iron as well and as far as either of those two clubs. Haven't really wrapped myself around a hybrid yet either. I want to upgrade my irons this off season. I've been playing a set of Titleist knock offs for about 12 years and it's time. After several years of limited play, I re-committed to the game this year and I feel I've made a couple breakthroughs. The combo sets seem like the perfect mix for me. The problem is, I can't find any in the area to demo. I've called all around and nobody has any of these so I'm relying on reviews and forums. Cody, when you say you'll lose distance, what is that compared to and how much? I normally hit a 7 a comfortable 150 with a high ball flight. Too high I believe, which is something else I need to address with a new set. Any input is appreciated.
