  1. I agree. Most individual sports thrive on keeping it competitive. The only players benefiting from mixed handicap events are the higher handicappers. My game has never profited from playing with such players. I am however being a little selfish as I played most of my youth with my dad but that was my birth right. In tournaments however we were sent out according to our handicap and the status quo at my present club is just wrong. I'll gladly play the odd mixed one but would expect the vast majority to be based on handicap.
  2. I hit my 8 iron about 110 metres and my driver about 210. My dad hits his 8 about 140 but only 220 with his driver. Apart from the obvious differences (hitting down on irons etc) the swing mechanics, with both of us, seem to be the same. Which one of us would be closer to the norm?
  3. I think that's the most desperate plea I've ever heard, I'm blocking both of you.
  4. I'll practise that one.
  5. I'm just trying to reverse his tendency to be grumpier these days. I play with him about 20+ times a season. I look forward to every round. My dad's favourite game is playing a few holes in the evening with one club. I play with 7i and he usually takes an 8i. It's a great game for adapting to the possibilities of one club. I would rather play with a wedge but there are a few holes with water etc where that's not possible. It's really nice to walk the course with just a ball or two and one club. Bogeys are the norm and a par will normally win. Our putting stats are surprisingly good.
  6. Not a single confirmation. I'm blocking you. How do I set that up.
  7. 20 years ago. No envelope for me but may I ask if she pointed her lead elbow towards the target. Makes me look a little crooked but who doesn't when they are putting. Results are more important.
  8. Can anyone confirm this claim?
  9. I did see it as my own problem, not being able to tolerate such interferences. I was determined to beat it but gave up because they were spoiling the enjoyment for me. But life is too short. I failed and I am the loser as I play in much fewer tournaments. BTW, I have had better experiences when I use Gallwey's/Shoemaker's pre-round chat on the first tee. It goes something like this, "What a lovely day we've got. I hope you have a fun round with me. I am feeling a pretty nervous but I hope to conquer that and join you in a wonderful round. Have fun!" Hey, I've not used that chat for a long time. Perhaps I've been missing a trick. Don't! I would however probably play with you. You sound like a nice guy. Tell me you don't say things like, "You seem to knock 4 footers in with ease." Just as I am walking up to attempt one. Don't!
  10. Yeah, but I never settle after correcting them. I think I have been missing out the polite bit. If I'm putting and they move during my routine I'll say, "Where the f*** are you going?" Instead of, "I realise you have finished this hole and you would like to move on to the next tee but could you please wait another couple of seconds until I have a go at this 5' birdie. Thank you very much for your patience. Can I reset?" Better?
  11. Yes and no. We always walk the course here (no buggies) and the higher handicappers have often less understanding of where to position themselves in between shots. Be that tee, fairway or green. There are of course exceptions and low handicappers can also be a little lack lustre. As a rule the better the player, the better is his/her understanding of etiquette. My pet hate is when I boom a long draw into the rough and they compliment the shot. "f*** off!"
  12. He's a teacher, a legend poster, the chief. Show some respect! Not many yippers on this forum. Not many envelopes!
  13. I have a select group who I will happily play with but unfortunately for tournament play I don't have that choice. I don't consider myself over fussy but slow play and bad etiquette really get on my nerves. Unfortunately our small club likes to mix the handicaps in too many tournaments for my liking and I have to play too often with golfers I would normally not/never play with. For a while, I thought this was just part of the game and bit bullet and went through many miserable rounds. However, my skill levels and enjoyment of the game suffered. I now only play in tournaments where the groups are sent out related to handicap but that leaves me playing in a fraction of the tournament calendar. Am I alone?
  14. If you ever use it stick a few dollars in an envelope and send it to me. P.S. Don't tell Mr. Barzeski
  15. Correct, but some golfers have an eye for it. I am not one of them but my dad studies the swing, its a hobby of his. When he helps another golfer, he says, "Just stick a few Euros in an envelope for me and don't tell anyone." I'm f***ing with you! Anyway thanks to this discussion we've chosen the exercise route. Obvious really but sometimes just getting something out there leads to the most important therapy. As for Shorty, I was a little dismissive with him but he was also a little unfriendly. I'm sure we'll make up. He's not talking to me at the moment. I think its Mocha Man's fault... Funny guy.
  16. 750 km with a full tank of 50 Litres, 15km per litre x 4 = 60km to the gallon. I think the math is correct
  17. OOOPS! I've just realised that I have been discussing my topic with the Chief/Top Man. 10k+ likes and over 70k posts. That's like 2 lifetimes. Respect!
  18. Thank you, I'm enjoying the "Craic" and I hope Shorty will warm to me also. Admit it, you googled it, didn't you?
  19. Makes sense and I glad to hear that this is a common practice but surely emphasising the direction of the elbow would enhance the feedback through impact.
  20. About 12 years ago, as a 13 year old, I developed a mild version of the yips. Basically, my forearms would rotate through impact and I would miss many putts to the left. I knew this was happening but I couldn't fix it. I tried everything from using straps, reversing my hands, using belly putters etc etc. Nothing made any lasting difference. The problem persisted. I was then given the best tip for this problem and I would like to share it with you. Heck, it's possible that this is a well known procedure but here goes. By simply bending your lead elbow and pointing it towards the target and maintaining this through impact, forearm rotation doesn't occur. It works!
  21. Kein Schuld, I think making an effort in any foreign language for an American is noble. We treat Englisch as a second language and no matter where we are in the world, we have to use it. A Schäufele would be along the lines of a beef wellington. His is also on the left. His last examination was about 15 years ago and the specialist told him that it was unrepairable. Perhaps modern medicine would disagree with that and perhaps I could persuade him to get updated advice for next saison. Ice Hockey is a very popular sport here and most players have their dominant hand on top of the stick to control the shovel. I think it's normal? I often play in foursomes with my dad and his mates. The last thing I want is for them to feel awkward around me and vice-versa. BTW, I didn't block out the f-word, it's an automatic correction here I think. And anyway, we are of Irish decent.
  22. I refer to him directly as 'dad' but he's my old man, it's an affectionate term that he also uses. My God, I worship the guy. And BTW, I didn't just beat him I totally whipped his ass. When we are having a tight match and he has just stiffed his approach on the eighteenth, he normally bellows, "You're f***ed now!" I always laugh.
  23. Best answer possible but unfortunately WRONG! Thx Duffer, I will definitely be checking out that book. English is fine. I'm still laughing...
