[QUOTE=Corgidog;165168] One of the selling points of the GL is waterproofing so while it was under warranty he wanted to determine whether GL's claims were true. He actually was more concerned about using the device in the rain and clearly it passed the test.

Give me ball suggestions - PLease
NJDuffer replied to SulfurAcid's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
+1 I was playing the B330-S. The Gamer is no where near as nice feeling and "spiny" but for $20, I think I found my new ball. I tried the Hx Hot Bite and really didn't like it much and could not stop the ball but for some reason the Gamer is really working for me. -
I use it on a Palm Treo and really like it. However they upgrade it each year or two with limited increased functionality.

The answer depends on which Circa 62 model you have. I have the Charcoal Mist version and it requires little more than a wipe down with a dry towel after the round. If you have the gun metal blue version, I think it requires the oil rag after each round. With all the SC putters, and probably any putter, you do not want to leave it in a wet headcover or leave it wet at all.

When you say the yardages on the signs were off, what do you mean? Off compared to what? What did you use as a benchmark for the yardages?

My firend submerged his GL for 15 minutes with no ill effects. I did not email him back to find out why he would need this feature but ok. I guess I can envision a situation where it falls in the water near a drop but it seems like being waterproof is overkill. BTW, GL does allow you to measure shot distance. From what I can tell, this is where you will need to hit a button/change screens. The bottom line on GL is I am also sold on this device. It is uglier (and looks larger) than the SG. I also wish GL would allow you to map your own course and add hazards to their maps. Also I would find intelligreen very helpful.

I do not want to get into a debate over this since I do not own either device, I was posting a friend's response to an email I sent to him. Take it FWIW including the possibility that I am biased in some way. With that said, I will respond to a few things from your note since I asked similar follow-up questions and a few of your questions have more obvious answers... 1) Your SG is water resistant and the GL is waterproof. There is a difference there but clearly one can argue whether being "water resistant" is more or less valuble than "waterproof" to the average guy. 2) I asked the same question and his response was that the GL does it automatically and on the SG you have to push a button or two to get the same info or to get back to the info regarding the green. The GL requires virtually no touching during the round. 3) Again, GL is $30 for the whole country and this is valuable to my friend and to many people. My buddy plays golf in both NY, NJ, and CT during the summer and he travels to NV and SC to play as well and sometimes South America/Carribean. For some people, having multiple states is a must. Each person will value the $20 difference differently and will decide whether they will play in only one state. For my friends and I who play at least a hanful of rounds a year, I do not know one person who plays all their rounds in one state in a given year. Between vacations, vists to friends/family, playing on another guy's course in a neighboring state, and business, everyone plays in at least 1 other state in a year. I suspect if you own a GPS for golf you want it to work on every course you play regarless of location. 4) I asked the same question and he used his SG (version 1 I think), his GL, and a friend's SG3, and the course markers in his test. For the most part, the SG 1, GL, and markers were fairly consistent with the GL and the markers aligning on yardage the most. The SG3 was just wrong. In fact, before he got the GL, I played a round with him (SG 1) and the guy with the SG3 and we were all shocked that the SG1 and SG3 were not aligned for yardage more often. I've known the guy for years but I told him I did not really understand how the SG could be off since Skygolf walks its yardage and GL uses maps. He didn't get it either but he just relayed what he saw. The bottom line here is the guy with the SG3 should probably return his device and ask for a new one because it didn't give the same yardage as anything else (but it may have been within tolerances which is +/- a few yards). I am still not sold on GPS yet but I will continue reading all the posts about the devices but given a trusted friend's experience I think the GL is a good choice. If I can only get him to buy and test the GolfBuddy and iGolf I would be all set to make a decision. I was surprised at his love to the GL because I thought SG would have the leg up since they've been around for longer than most.

I posted this on another golf site but thought I would post it here as well..... I love gadgets but I can be cheap and avoided GPS due to the subscription model employed by SkyCaddie. I suck at golf and do not play very many rounds and certainly do not play at many different courses so I was holding off on buying a GPS. Anyway...I have a buddy who has an older Skycaddie and recently purchased a GolfLogix. Since I am considering buying a device because of the coolness of it and it is useful even if I stink at the sport, I asked my buddy two questions 1) How is the GolfLogix? and 2) How does it compare to Skycaddie?. Here is his response...exact copy: Love Golf Logix....it's much better than Skycaddie. 1. GL is waterproof, SC is not 2. GL gives distances to targets automatically, SC does not 3. GL is $30 per year, SC is $50 4. GL gives more reliable yardage than SC 5. GL has 1 year warranty, SC has 90 days 6. GL will add a course within a week when requested (although they pretty much have every one right now) 7. GL is made by Garmin, the GPS Pros 8. Only golf GPS company which updates all courses for changes every year (or so they say) As you can see, I did much research on the subject before buying. The only other one I would consider is the Golf Buddy, which hold every USA course within the unit and has no annual fee. ...... I was shocked by this review coming from a guy who plays 2x a week and travels a few times a year to play. Anyway..I thought I would contribute this review to the forum. BTW, I thought he was wrong on Number 2...I thought Skycaddie does the yardage to targets automatically. I am still not sold on the GPS idea (I am the $1000 bag no game kind of guy) but Intelligreen on Skycaddie is pretty cool and I do not think GolfLogix has that.

Where are you in NJ? I suggest you either demo the clubs and/or get on a launch monitor. My swing is pretty inconsistent so a launch monitor doesn't help me much since I can't see the ball flight and make adjustments. I found a place that allows me to demo clubs (essentially borrow them for a day or two) and over the last year I demoed 5 drivers or so and found one that I liked best and rewarded them with a purchase.

New TaylorMade "Burner" Driver...WOW!!!
NJDuffer replied to mrbillinoc's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My swing is generally awful but I too love my Burner. In fact, I hit more fairways in my last round with it than I ever have. Pretty amazing actually. I'm trying to figure out if I was having a good day, for me, or was it the club. On some holes I was further down the fairway than I've ever been. For full disclosure, it is my first 460cc head and my previous driver was a TM R540. I can't wait to see how this thing perfoms after my lessons and hopefully implementation of a better swing. -
Right front - ball when not golfing it, divot repair tool w/ attached marker, two zero friction tees. Left Front - Palm Treo w/ intelligolf at the ready (scorecard and stat tracking), "provisional" ball Left Rear - nothing. Right Rear - glove when not wearing it.

As one who sucks at golf I can say that most of "us" bad golfers are very conscious of our pace of play and try to keep it lively. The rangers and starters at my local course say that the slowest players are generally the "better" players. I'm not sure if that is due to walking off yardage or looking at putts 15 times from 15 angles.

iacas- Please contact someone at Bethpage State Park. It is a friend's home course and I almost never play with him during the summer because of the traffic and the 5-6+ hour rounds. There are times where he prefers to drive to my local course (1-2 hours away) and play there than drive the 15-20 minutes to play Bethpage. With that said, the Black is worth it not only because of the course itself but the tee time spacing is different and they also leave an empty time or two per hour.

Stats Keeping - IntelliGolf Eagle Ver. 8.0
NJDuffer replied to Rafcin's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Intelligolf is great, I've used it for a few years now on my Treo (Palm OS). As a high-handicapper it is great to see where I'm putting my drives to help ID tendencies, keep track of my putts, scoring over time, and shots lost due to penalties. Do I really need the software? Not really, but it is a great tool for analytical types. Like any tool, you have to use it to experience the benefits. Edit: Obviously, a great feature is the ability to download almost any course in the country and have a digital scorecard. The $$$$ games tracking is also nice but my buddies and I still keep that manually as well. -
Wow...have you ever thought that your approach is wrong. A few comments: 1) As a 10 handicap are you really so good that you should be giving lessons. 2) Some people just do not want unsolicited advice. 3) You think the hostility comes from the fact that you are better than 99% of the guys. One thing to think about is that the guys you offer advice to have no idea how you play, you just strolled up to them with a tip. IMO, you seem pretty self-centered. Most people who want help will seek it out and range tips are pretty meaningless unless someone works on the change. People react to you the way they do because they did not want help from anyone regardless of age.
