  1. Day 19 - More chipping practice indoors today, this time with 9i and 54* wedge.
  2. Day 18 - Raining so I practiced chipping indoors. Started with Orange Whip wedge, followed by 9-iron and 49* wedge.
  3. Day 17 - Putting practice on my PuttOUT mat and trainer. Worked on speed of short putts (1' to 6') by stroking the putt at such a speed that it returns at least 12" but no more than 18". First in order followed by random.
  4. Day 16 - Nice day today, so I did some block practice hitting chip and run shots with my 9-iron in the yard. Not much run, but I could work on the strike and see where the ball landed.
  5. Day 15 - Indoor putting practice today; worked on 6' putts getting end-over-end roll with no wobble in the alignment line.
  6. Day 14 - Nice day today so I practiced chipping in the yard.
  7. Day 13 - Played the back 9 at North Kingstown today. Didn't really keep score, but did par the 18th hole!
  8. Day 12 - Did the PuttOUT challenge today. Planning to play tomorrow.
  9. Day 11 - Did both Day 1 and Day 2 "30-day Practice Plan" drills today.
  10. Day 10 - Did about 5 minutes of putting practice today.
  11. Day 9 - Basically a repeat of Day 8 (and the first few days of the 30 Day Practice Plan): Setup and move through backswing in front of a mirror face on and DTL, checking positions. Did "Shoulder Tilts" during my stretching routine earlier this morning.
  12. Day 8 - Indoor work today with my 8-iron. Setup and slow motion swings, checking positions in a mirror.
  13. For 2023 I decided to go with an 11 wood (in my case a Mavrik Max), rather than the 6H (also a Mavrik Max) I played for most of 2022 because I hit it more consistently distance-wise and much higher so it stops quicker on the green. I suspect that the lateral dispersion might be higher with the 11W than the hybrid, which I will test on Trackman in the coming weeks.
  14. Wow tough crowd 😀. @boogielicious is correct however that the talking heads had an influence on my opinion (the meandmygolf guys really salivated). I do note however, that being 64th in "Approach the Green" puts him ahead of roughly 2/3s of the other players on the PGA Tour for 2022 which isn't too shabby. The original question, however, was whether the cut off finish Fleetwood frequently uses with irons has a downside and to reading the previous entries in this thread it doesn't appear so. Am I missing anything?
  15. What a swing! I like the 3/4 approach with irons for me for control reasons. Although I'm a pretty short hitter, I'd be happy to lose a few yards in exchange for more control with my irons and wedges.
  16. Day 7 - Range-work at North Kingstown Golf Course today. Warmed up with wedge shots (it was 38* when I started and about 41* by the time I was finished) followed by Adam Young's "Sole Spray drill" for ground contact with my 7-iron. Then worked through my fairway woods, hit some drivers (with foot spray on the face) and finished with more 7-irons. Finished up on the practice green with some putting practice and a 3-hole chip and putt, chipping from different lies around the green (shot a 6, with a chip in).
  17. Resurrecting a year old thread. I recently started paying attention to Tommy Fleetwood and came across this YouTube video on meandmygolf about his ball striking with irons. He is considered one of the better iron players in the game today and from this video, I understand why. Both the "Fleetwood finish" and frequently choking down a bit on irons and woods strikes me as a good way to build control into ball striking. In order to get more control in my iron play I plan to incorporate both for 2023 (already sort of do this with full-ish wedge shots) as improving GIR is a one of my main goals for the upcoming season.
  18. Day 6 - 9-to-3 swings in the yard with AlmostGolf balls today; 8 or 9 balls focusing on good ground strike (used a tee to mark ball position) with an in-to-out swing path. Then did 2-3 10-to-2 swings, same objectives. Mostly acceptable strikes.
  19. Day 5 - Worked on putting setup (with mirror) and various drills for face control today.
  20. Day 4 - Busy day today so only did some slow motion swings with my 9W; also practiced some chips.
  21. Day 3 - Practiced slow motion swings with my 7 iron in front of a mirror. Practiced setup with the putter and getting the ball to roll end-over-end using the line on the ball.
  22. Day 2 - Nice day out today so I practiced 20 yard pitch shots with my 54* wedge in the yard for about 10 minutes (after swapping the screens for the glass in our porch).
  23. Day 1 - I decided that the end of the year was as good a time as any to start up again. Will be working on the basics (grip, stance, etc), slow swings and putting inside. Hoping to get to Trackman next week, then 2-3 times before the season starts up again in March. Today did about 10 minutes of grip, stance and back swing positions, followed by about 10 minutes of 3' putts through a gate.
  24. I'll know more after I hit Trackman (hopefully next week) particularly about the 11W, however in a 3/1/22 Trackman session, dispersion (total yardage, rather than carry) for my 7-iron was a tilted oval about 30 yards wide and 20 yards deep versus that for my 9W which a less tilted oval of about 40 yards wide and 20 yards deep. First of all, as a high capper, inconsistent swings are what I do really well () but it strikes me that most of the dispersion difference between the two relates to the average distance of the 9W being 25 yards longer than that of the 7i. Because I ended the 2022 season striking the ball better than I started it, I'll be interested to see what Trackman shows this time. Not for me. I started playing golf again when I retired in 2019 after a hiatus of about 10-years. Between not playing and aging, I probably lost 10+ mph in driver club head speed and as much as 40 yards in distance. In many ways it has felt like starting over.
  25. Lofts are as follows: 7i - 29.5* 7H - 30* 6H - 27* 11W - 25* Typically the 11W is considered a 5i replacement, 9W a 4i replacement, etc., which matches my experience. I have also found that the 11W is great out of the rough.
