  1. Our association plays money rounds on the weekends. Usually a $3 Nassau with $3 junk (birdies, greenies, sandies). Today there was an odd number of guys, so I volunteered to not play for money. "Screw that, Jimmy plays," the reigning Club Champ said. So they powers-that-be re-aligned the game and the Club Champ took me as partner. The game: $5 Nassau with $5 junk. No handicap. I birdied two of the first three holes. Club Champ birdied the fourth. And we were on our way. In the end, we wound up with 3-under on the front and 1-under on the back with 7 junk as a team. We won all four bets and brought home $80 each. I shot a 77 with three 3-putts and a double bogey after a shanked 5-iron. Club Champ: 73. And he missed two putts inside three feet. Not a bad morning.
  2. Three wedges: PW 48* SW 53* LW 58* (For what it's worth, my 9-iron is bent a couple of degrees more than typical - 43*, instead of the typical 41*. And a typical PW is 45*. So my 9-iron is almost a wedge. Maybe I carry 3-and-a-half wedges . )
  3. I run therapy (physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy) programs in subacute nursing facilities. A far cry from golf, but my boss plays and that makes it easier for me to take a day off or cut out early to play.
  4. I just got my irons bent 1* flat. I always knew my swing was a little flat for standard lies. It seems I was right. On the first four holes, I seemed to be hitting my irons a bit more solidly. A 3-iron layup on the par 5 2nd hole never strayed from it's intended line. A punch 8-iron on 3 creeped up to the front of the hole. My 7-iron on the par 3 4th covered the flag the whole way, but was one club too much. And then on the long par 4 5th hole I had a 195 yard approach into a "1-club" wind. I striped a five-iron. It never waivered from the flag. One bounce, it hit the pin. Three feet for birdie. Best shot of the week. I made the putt.
  5. Maybe it's a matter of terms. Many people think the shoulder is the shoulder joint and when asked to turn or rotate the shoulder they try to manipulate the joint (moving the arms across the chest). Make sure you start with a good definition of the shoulder. If she's having trouble feeling the right shoulder turn away, try having her feel the left shoulder. Sometimes I find it helpful feeling my left shoulder pointing at (or behind) the ball.
