  1. I've had mine for about a year and cant imagine going back. I've had my irons lengthened by an inch and they still fit fine. Every time I hear someone else's bag of clubs chattering away I cringe. If one of my woods shake loose during a rough ride and clank a bit - it drives me nuts. I'm definitely used to the silent ride. Love the two outside clips as well - keeps Scotty Tei3 safe. No need for head covers
  2. I have the 3DX's and you wont be disappointed. They are very durable as far as looks go - and are butter when properly struck - best of all I picked mine up for next to nothing off ebay. Concerning the shaft - I would say its a no-brainer. Go with steel for the following reasons: In general graphite gives a bit more distance but less control - since Nickent has stronger lofts to begin with - I would personally go with steel. Its kind of like having your cake and eating it too. You would have stronger lofts for distance and better control with the steel shafts. Personally, like with any set of irons, if you spend the time with them and grow and learn with them - you wont be disappointed.
  3. Anyone here use any of the Nickent irons ?? Can you give a mini-review and possbily give comparisons to some of the more 'mainstream' irons out there ?? Thanks
  4. Well - the driver has been out of the bag for 3/4 of the season and life has been much easier for it. For me - the driver just wasnt consistent enough. I spent more time making up yardage than gaining yardage. I have been hitting the Cobra sz off the tee and have been very pleased with the results - distance off the tee is not my main problem in golf so I am ok not driving 260 yards. I also own the 5 wood sz. My question is this - how does the sz woods compare in general to the 'newer' woods. I know that the sz's were rated very high in the much publicized hotlists a couple years ago. Is there a significant upgrade out there for me ??? Off the tee I'm about 200 with the 5 wood and about 220 with the 3 - and pretty darn consistent with them - but you know how the upgrade disease is always lurking.
  5. Well people - I have been struggling for weeks with my iron play. PW - LW has been money but 9-6 irons got increasingly worse in the form of a pull / hook - more of a straight pull. The clubs felt heavy and everything seemed like a clunk - pull with no trajectory. I even took a lesson and the pro was more interested in me keeping my lead foot completely still and keeping the butt end of my club at my zipper than addressing the pull that I spoke to him about. Everything from the feet together drill to the half swing drill - nothing. Alignment - all of the pull things - grip - closing the clubhead - swing plane - driving myself nuts - nothing. Tonight - I went to try to solve the problem again and I think I found the answer. Apparently, I have been getting lazy and not hinging or acheiving a wrist cock on my backswing. My wrists have been stiff - but not cocking. I took a half swing with an immediate wrist cock and BINGO - butter. Thank GOD !!!!!! Can some of you who are more of a swing doctor explain this so I better understand the reasonings ??? Thanks in advance
  6. Greetings All I am happy to say that this season I have turned the corner after taking up the game again after a 7 year absence. By turning the corner - I mean that first corner - shooting under 50 pretty regularly. One problem that is pretty consistent, however, is a pull of my 6,7, and 8 irons that comes up too often. Weird thing is that I never pull my 9-LW which has me perplexed and along with being far from a swing doctor, reluctant to mess with my grip etc. I use a "both thumbs pointing straight down the shaft" with an overlap grip which feels very good to me and very straightforward and simple to me. To round things out - I never pull my driver - as a matter of fact - a slight push more often than not which clouds things even more. I'm pretty tall and wonder if I reach too much on my irons which may cause the pull - or maybe should move the ball back in my stance ? Any suggestions
  7. I am interested in a new set of Vokeys - and really like the black nickel finish but it seems that option is no longer available. 1. Was the black nickel finish ever available on the spin milled version ?? 2. Has Titleist stopped producing the black nickel finish all together ?? 3. How much difference is there between the spin milled version of the Vokey versus non-spin milled Thanks for your help
  8. Anyone have any personal reviews of this putter. Every time I go to the golf shop I eye this thing up - the #5 is pretty cool. It has a bit of a Cameron look to it which I like - and the blade putter seems to work well for me - currently have a 3300 Odyssey. Anyone ?
  9. Hi I was just wondering how many of you out there use a chipper as part of your arsenal. I tried out a friends this weekend and was very suprised at how effective and easy it was to use near the green. As someone who definitely doesnt throw darts to the green from 150 yards, I am seriously thinking about picking up one of these as opposed to my skiddish 60 degree wedge play. Anyone else out there have one - which brand - successes ???? Thanks
  10. Hello all: Long time lurker - first time poster - love the equipment forums and have learned a lot. As I have just got back into the game after about a 4 year hiatus, I have spent this summer compiling my set of clubs again. So far Nickent 3dx (red) $149 buy it now - ebay (steal) Cobra sz 3 and 5 Odyssey 3300 The Adams Watson wedges had caught my eye at GolfGalaxy where I may be close to having my own coffee mug by the way - LOL. I liked the look and price but am not the guy who buys anything thats 3/$99 because its a good deal - I want quality too. After about a month of research and waffling on spending good money on wedges, I sheepishly questioned my helper at the store about the Waston wedges. He said that for the price - unless I'm Tiger - I would be very pleased with them. Now I'm no expert but these things play pretty damn good. I'm most likely not going to backspin them 4 feet - but probably couldnt with a $120 Cleveland anyway. I changed out the grips and felt confidence with these things immediately. I like the gunmetal finish which I hope doesnt break down and rust too quickly - but if they do - for that price, I will just buy another set. Just wondering if any others have felt the same way about these ???
