  1. What about the Swingyde? I just got one a couple days ago. Seems to work pretty good for me. It's helping my kids get a better feel for a better swing. Not affiliated with them btw.
  2. I haven't watched golf on TV for quite a few years but I did watch The Masters last week. What's up with those fans who scream "Get In The Hole" ? Most people cheer when a putt drops, or say 'awww' when it just misses, but then there are those people who are screaming at the ball while it is in motion. Anyone else think this behavior is a little odd and annoying?
  3. I just got back into golf after a long time away so I was in a similar situation as you. I researched a lot online, including GolfDigest.com, GolfGalaxy.com, this forum, etc. I came up with a list of clubs that were in my price range and began to narrow down the choices. I have a Golf Galaxy in town so I spent a lot of time over the course of a few weeks hitting with different clubs in their simulator room. I thought I knew for sure which clubs I wanted before I even swung one, but after trying all the different clubs and comparing them, I ended up with Nike MachSpeed irons (4-S) and fairway woods, Cleveland HiBore Monster driver, and a Adams 3DX 3 Hybrid. I got the Machspeeds on sale for $200 back to spend on other Nike products. Do a Google search for Golf Digest's 2009 Hot List and see what rated high last year. These can be had for a pretty good price since they are last years models. I see that Taylor Made has a sale on the Burner clubs at Golf Galaxy. The irons were $599 and are on sale for $399. If my clubs weren't still so new and shiny I would go try them out myself. You can also check out RockBottomGolf.com for some pretty good prices. You really should go somewhere and hit several different brands of clubs before you decide. Even if their prices are too high, at least you know how the club hits and then you can just order in online cheaper.
  4. Jon K, I see you're from Milwaukee so I assume you went to the Golf Galaxy on 76th & Layton? I purchased a set of clubs a few weeks back from there and signed up for the advantage club. Checking online it shows I earned a little over 1000 points. At 900 points they automatically cashed out and sent me a $30 gift certificate, which I received today. When I get up to 300 points I assume they will cash that out and send me a $10 certificate. It took over 2 weeks before I got the certificate. Did someone not properly enter your info when you signed up? You should have earned over $160 worth of gift certificates! Good luck. Let us know what happens

    My First Round

I played at Muskego Lakes CC.
  6. You get 20 courses for $80 ($4 per course). Ten courses is $60. The more you buy the less each course costs. I just played my first round with a uPro and it worked quite well. I just wish it could keep score for me as well.
  7. So I want to the driving range and hit 100 balls the night before I played 18 holes of golf. For the last 15 or 20 shots at the range I was working on hitting my drives harder - much harder then I normally hit. That night I had some pain in my rib cage, maybe 2 inches below my right nipple. I took ibuprofen that night and the next morning before playing the 18 holes. From the 10th hole onward, my rib pain got steadily worse and wrapped around my right side into my back. Two days later and it's feeling 30% better but I'll probably have to rest it for a week before I can play again. So is this muscle strain? Or is there some cartilage in there that got damaged? Why the right side? I'm right handed so I thought the left side would be more likely to get hurt. I golfed in my 20's and never worried about stretching or warming up or over swinging...but I'm 40 now and learning the hard way
  8. First round of the year and first round in a decade. Shot a 107 and have a few things to work on: 1) I three-putted a couple times. My aim was good but my distance was a little too hard at times. Bounced over the cup twice. 2) Hit several fat shots from the fairway. I know I'm dropping my right shoulder and trying to lift the ball. 3) Hooked my 3W from the tee twice. Never did that before. 4) I lost 2 in the water. Pushed a tee shot on 1 and hit another fat from a fairway. My drives were, for the most part, straight down the fairway. I feel pretty good about this. Not as long as I'd like, but I'll take straight over distance any day. I think the fat shots are the most frustrating and probably the hardest to correct. The greens weren't in great shape because it's so early in the season, and hooking my 3W off the tee shouldn't be too bad to fix. Should be a good season !
  9. Are you able to record your swing? That will show what you are doing different. When I hit em fat it's because I slide my hip toward the target and my right should drops.
  10. anyone else able to get veetle to work? I just crashes my web browsers - Firefox, IE, and Chrome.
  11. I think I found it. It's called 'Rope It Golf'. Their website says they started back in 1990 so I think I actually have one of their earlier versions. I've been working with my boys (7 and 13) to get them into golf and this thing is great in my small backyard. Now I just need to get a mat so that I don't destroy my lawn with divots. I just ordered one of their new ones, so if anyone is interested I can give a short review of it after I try it.
  12. I did get new equipment after going to the driving range and hitting my brother-in-law's new clubs. Finally retired my 1982 clubs. Thanks!
  13. I have this practice setup which consists of a golf ball attached to a string/chord that is maybe 5 feet long and then this is attached to a bungee type stretchable chord that is another 4 or 5 feet long and then this is stuck in the ground with a foot long stake. This works great for practice with your driver in the back yard but mine is looking worn after all these years. I can't find this anymore. Farm & Fleet had a cheap ball on a cheap string but no bungee chord. Does anyone still sell this? Where?
  14. I just wanted to tell you guys about what happened to me today. Background: Haven't golfed in over a decade. Been practicing for 1 week now (range, park, etc). Had problems with shanking and slicing. Went back and analyzed my setup and swing after reading a bunch of stuff here and all over the internet. I found I had my left hand turned too far left , which is a weak grip, right? I also noticed that I never really did a proper wrist cock in the backswing which resulted in very little 'snap' at the moment of impact. Today I went to the park with my wedge, which has been giving me horrible shank problems lately. I focused on proper weight balance on my feet, a proper grip with both V's point towards my right shoulder, starting my back swing by turning my chest, and also a wrist cock and snap through impact. - I didn't swing as hard. - My head speed seemed much faster at impact because of the wrist snap. - My wedge went maybe 10 yards farther. - The ball actually flew in the direction I was aiming. - My swing came slightly from the inside. - My divot looked normal. - I gained a lot of confidence back. I've been trying to swing way too hard to compensate for not properly cocking my wrists and snapping them over at impact. This caused my arms to reach out farther from centrifugal force and shank the ball. I see the pros taking a sort of half practice swing where they cock their wrists 90 degrees on the back swing and the follow through with their wrist back to 90 degrees. I did this a few times before hitting the ball and it helped me 'feel' what my wrists should be doing. Today I read that this wrist snap, or unhinge, or whatever you call it, can increase club head speed at impact by as much a 7 times. Can't wait to see how much this improves my weak driving distance
  15. -Should I practice my swing with a towel under my armpits?
