  1. Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice with my spin. I'm able to put backspin on the ball on command, but I'd like to know the specifics of causing less and more spin, check ups, and spinning it in certain directions. Any direct advice or links would be very helpful.
  2. I'm sensing a 9-hole choke from the leaders... I sure as hell wouldn't want to be playing with a charging Tiger Woods in the rear-view window.
  3. I'd say don't narrow your options to those two. But my personal preference is the ProV1.
  4. I play the VR full forged irons right now. I like them a whole lot, but if I had to do all over again I think I would go for the split-cavity irons. The trajectory is very high, but they're a solid set of irons.
  5. I actually enjoy the show at times, but watching Hank Haney fail at teaching amateurs over and over again is getting old.
  6. Your set up looks a little bit awkward and uncomfortable. As you can see, Adam Scott's looks more relaxed and balanced as opposed to rigid. Besides that, the swing looks really nice.
  7. I have just recently began putting consistent backspin on my golf shots and now I'm looking for some help on how to control it. Side-spin, stoppers, pulling the string, and etc. Any links or personal advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  8. Top Flight Gamer was pretty good spin wise, but they are 15 bucks for a reason and I can't say I loved them around the greens. My personal favorite ball is the Nike One Tour. Great spin, and I found no other issues with them around the course.
  9. I had one "lesson" like that too... My new swing coach is breath of fresh air. I figure if I can self teach myself to a single digit handicap, a coach should bring be down where I want to be.
  10. I'm sixteen years old and have completely self taught myself the game of golf up until now. Over the last weekend, I finally broke down and got my first coaching sessions with a club pro. I just wish I did it sooner! I was a decent player beforehand, but I really think this guy is going to bring me over the top. Ball-striking has never seemed so effortless. Any of you self-taught? Experiences with great coaches? Etc?
  11. Having a caddy would also give us someone to blame. :D
  12. Caddy... I don't want to pay for carts anymore and carrying my bag sucks.
  13. Penalty stroke for Sean Miller: Using a lame Internet cliche. ;D
  14. I'm with you, dude. My swing coach and I just tinker to what works the best, but never drop names like "one plane, two plane, Stack and Tilt" or whatever. It's just piecing together the swing that provides the best results.
  15. I'd say I notably change something every 2-3 weeks... Hopefully that'll change now that I'm getting lessons for the first time ever!
  16. I wish I had a friend who would be willing to caddy for me. Heh heh... I'm thinking about a career in golf management so caddying might be in my future. Mainly, I just want someone to carry and clean, and also I like to voice my possibilities. Somehow it makes me make choices better.
  17. I was just thinking how great it would be to have a caddy. Not even like a tour caddy who walks every inch of the course, but just a person to carry the bag, hand you clubs, and give you advice on your shots. I just wish I could have the experience a couple times.
  18. In general terms, the hyrid would replace the long irons. There's more to it based on loft, shaft length and stiffness, etc. I agree with you about the fairway woods, the only time I really use them is off the tee on dog legs... My question would be which clubs you would miss more. :P
  19. Okay, so you have no fairway woods... Do you have trouble hitting your long irons at all? If so, at which club do the problems start? You could always add a wedge or two and then take the iron(s) you replaced with a hybrid out.
  20. I've been thinking about moving to recycled balls... All the ball fittings I've gotten always put it at the Nike One Tour, but I've never had the nerve to spend so much money on it... I don't see what the harm is, it's not like we're all Tour Pros here.
  21. If you're looking to replace a fairway wood like a 5-wood, then a 2-hybrid is a good choice. If you're looking to replace long irons, a 3, 4, or 5-hybrid is where you want to go. Do you even need to remove anything to add wedges? How many clubs total are you carrying right now?
  22. I've pin pointed scrambling as my problem right now, which was once one of my strongest suits, so I think that's why I haven't been concerned about it. It's definitely not my putting, I usually three putt once or twice every 36 holes or so with my fair share of one putts. I specifically remember my first time out this season I wasn't striking the ball spectacularly, but I was able to scramble from off greens and ended up with a 38, which was a marvel that early in the season. Now that my ball striking has really come around mid-season, I haven't been able to shoot much better than that.
  23. In golf, there is no defense. So, win by playing your round of golf, and hope that's good enough. But, I find letting out a big sigh on the putting surface can rattle a little bit. Just enough to make them conscious of EVERYTHING. ;)
  24. This is great advice. Thanks for the time
  25. Anyway, I set up a coaching sessions with the pro at the country club my team plays at this weekend, so I figure he'll be able to hone some of the skills I'm lacking. I think the real problems lies in consistency. Wish me luck!
