  1. Actually I was thinking the opposite. I have no idea if it is true or not but I was thinking that if someone was tall or had long arms its easier for them to hit farther than average. Bubba Watson, John Daily, etc... and some other tall guys I know personally drive really far but I realize 'guys I know' is not very scientific :) I'll have to find some tall guys who don't have long drives! I didn't mean to suggest that average or shorter people don't hit far. A lot of the pros at the top of the drive stats aren't that tall. Jamie Sadlowski is 5'11 165lbs and can *carry* it 400yds.
  2. I love the Nike PD Soft and convinced a few people to try and see how great it is despite the cheap price. I'm gonna stop tho because I don't want the price to go up or have a hard time identifying my ball. PS you can buy 3 dozen for the price of 2 at dick's online or in store until august 7th http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...ductId=3973981
  3. Check out the golf pride vid on hand size http://www.golfpride.com/Tips/RegrippingTips.aspx It says grab the club with two fingers of your top hand and see if the grip is 'correct' based on your finger/hand length. If the grip is too small you might grip it tighter than you should but you probably won't notice a big difference and I think its kind of personal preference. It also can slightly change the weight distribution and maybe you prefer a thinner/lighter grip so the clubhead feels heavier. Or maybe you won't notice. You can make a grip slightly thicker by using two wraps of tape instead of one then the weight is just how much a piece of tape weighs, and/or use a thicker grip which could add a several grams. If you do it yourself you can experiment and see what you like for basically the cost of the grip after you have initial supplies. Its very easy to re-grip yourself. Just watch a youtube video or two. A secret is a tool from golfsmith that is like a curved chisel with a ball on the end to scrape the old tape off because that part is normally the time consuming part. http://www.golfsmith.com/products/82...p_Tape_Remover I can do a club in about 3minutes in my backyard and i dont use a vice. Here is how I do it: (edit: I just noticed there is a video on that golf pride site that shows most of what I typed here lol) - Use a pair of sharp scisors and jam one end into the old grip and run it up cutting the old grip then split and yank the old grip off. This works fine even for graphite clubs where you need to be careful not to cut if you were using a box knife. You can also use a hook blade but scissors work fine. - Put the club butt end down on concrete patio or a rock in your yard and use that chisel tool to scrape off the old tape. Scrape down toward the rock while you turn the club with your other hand. You could also scrape with scissors or a piece of metal but it will take longer. - Cut a piece of double sided tape to the length of the new grip, place it on the club with a finger length hanging off the butt end and wrap half around the shaft. Peel off the top of the tape starting on that half wrapped side while wraping the other side fully around the club. Twist the top end that is hanging over and push in the end of the club so nothing can get down the shaft through the grip hole. - Take your mineral spirits and pour a little into the new grip while holding the tiny hole on the butt end with one finger. Pour just enough so you can feel it shake around inside while covering the big hole with your other hand. Shake it around in there then pour it out all over the tape on the club through the tiny hole. - Put the club head on grass like you would be swinging it and slip the grip on the way you want it. With golf pride tour velvet I put the logo on the bottom so it doesn't distract me while playing. Watch out cause the juice will squirt out the hole onto your shirt. - Turn the club upside down and tap the butt end of the grip on a rock or patio to make sure its all the way on. - Wipe it with a rag then examine and twist/align the logo or markings if needed then let it dry overnight.
  4. Are they tall guys or have long monkey arms? With a big arc its easier to get swing speed up. Like in those long drive competitions guys use +10" shafts but I think they put a limit on that now. Balls make a difference as well. Go try hitting a ball with no dimples it will go maybe 70% as far, or one of those non-conforming demo day trial balls that trick you into buying some new clubs. Notice how titleist doesn't advertise how much farther their pro v goes than other balls? Because many choose accuracy/feel over distance. Here are some interesting results from a robot hitting various balls at 90mph: http://www.golf.com/golf/features/flash/ballguide3.html I like the quote "The One Platinum is designed for Tiger or someone similar to him," hah!
  5. If its not 'all' shots then that will bring the average down. Also there is difference between trying to swing fast as possible for a statistic and trying to land in the center of the fairway for a low score. I believe they pick the latter but how would we ever know.
  6. Not saying they weren't lying... but the driving stats are a couple tee shots per round. That includes drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons whatever club they used on those holes. So the average is not 100 attempts at hitting their driver as far as they can. I believe most of those guys could drive 300 with their 'driver' anytime they want.
  7. Yes and I have a good idea how far I hit the ball. It's the sign with 300 painted on it. Howerver, I am 6'5" with a 87" armspan in my 30's. I hit my 9i 150. I hit my putter everywhere but into the hole! My driver is from 2006 and I'm not shopping for a new one. There is a big difference between me on the range and a pro in a tournament. If it was just about distance you'd see me on TV if I didn't choke from stress http://www.pgatour.com/r/stats/
  8. I am not copying his swing. I don't think thats even possible but is an example of the technique. What I'm actually copying is the moeller drumming technique using my whole body as a whip to get speed and power with less effort. Worked for me, sorry if its bad advice for others. My drives hit the ground around 300yds now instead of 270 and its very hard not to hit this nike sq straight. To bad this doesn't work for my chipping and putting!
  9. Sorry I didn't mean that my hips don't move forward at all. I meant I lead my swing by rotating them... not 'only rotating'. I do spin my hips with my upper body following on purpose. I used to slide my hips more years ago but now I'm all about rotation like Jamie Sadlowski
  10. Watch Charles Barkley he's using The Secret
  11. I lead with my hips not pushing them around right or left but twisting them. I turn them right to start off into my backswing then at the top turn them the other way to kick off the downswing. Try twisting your hips like this with your arms relaxed just hanging down and you will see your shoulders/arms/hands cant help but follow your hips lead. Like swinging an elephant's trunk or a whip... I pity the ball that gets in the way.
  12. Wait until it doesnt hurt anymore might be 2 weeks. Then wait another week after that. Then stop immediately for a few days if/whenever it hurts again. Very frustrating I know.
  13. I like my oil can because of the color :) I can reach for my brown club (wedge) and/or my gold club (putter) without thinking. Thats right, I'm lazy. Hey there's an idea... rainbow colored irons!
  14. If your bad drives are *always* to the right a slightly less stiff shaft might help (or faster swing) but 20yrds isn't much to me and a less stiff shaft will reduce your distance. The sound of my sumo is like when you hit an aluminum baseball bat. It definately sounds powerful and turns heads at the range.
  15. Check craigslist you can get some amazing deals. About $50 will get you a bag and some clubs (which is cheaper than the price of a bag you would need to buy anyway) and you will be ready to play with your friends or go to the range this weekend. Whats $50 anyways thats greens fees or 12 supremo balls. Then make sure to have a putter you really like and a wedge because you will hit those two clubs on every hole. You friends might have a bunch of clubs lying around too. I literally have a trunk full of clubs but I like to play these old ones in my signature that I spent maybe $200 total on.
