  1. Ok, so it looks like the Ping G series and the Cobra S2 are the favorites. I have been really busy lately and still haven't been able to go test anything out yet, but that will change in a week or so. For whatever reason (purely mental I know) I really have a lot of trouble hitting the square drivers with any consistency. I have also used a 'traditional' looking driver with the 'pear shape' and everything else just feels incredibly odd at set up. For an earlier poster, my handicap is technically still 1.4, but is probably closer to a 6 or 7 right now. I have only played 4 rounds this year (78, 74, 79, 78) and I haven't updated my index yet this year. Driver is the club I always have the most trouble with and I know the range is the only true way to correct it, but it would nice to play something that is going to be less penalizing on a miss hit.
  2. Yea I was fitted for my current set now a couple of years ago, but that was when I was literally practicing and playing at least 6 days a week. And I'm like your typical golfer, I want something new lol.
  3. Spitz........ Are they AP2s any more forgiving than the 695MBs? I might be looking for new irons in the 2 iron - 6 iron range for a little added forgiveness. About college golf. If you are serious about playing college golf somewhere you should find a professional club fitter and have them do a complete swing analysis. He will be able to point you in the right direction and give you a few different options about woods, irons, shafts, shaft strength, angle, lie, bounce on your wedges. I feel this is where great strides can be made in the games of every golfer at any skill level. It will cost you a little bit of money to get it done right and I suggest you find a local club that offers this instead of a store that might try to just sell you something expensive. And you say you don't like ProV1s... what you are saying makes since about them typically spinning more, but the way a ball spins (either a quick check from a low skipping bounce or incredible back spin that is fun to watch from a typically high bounce) is more dependent on shot selection and how well you strike the ball... especially right around the greens. I play the Srixon AD333 because it is cheaper and spins almost as well as the ProV. Although it isn't quite as durable as I would like, it still cuts fairly easy.
  4. Actually in Murfreesboro right now, but I am graduating in May so I'm not sure how much longer I will be here. I played the Mizuno MP32s and occasionally MP14s before I made the switch to Titleist sticks. I'm just looking for something more forgiving around my 2, 3, 4, and 5 irons. I am getting tired of having to hit near-perfect shots with these and if a lot of the pros are switching to mixed/combo sets, then I probably should also. I've thought about sticking some AP1s in my bag for the longer irons, but I haven't actually hit them yet. I had surgery Friday so I have been out of the mix for a few days now, but I'll be testing some new irons soon.
  5. KP's choice also has a lot to do with swing speed correct? The difference in workability between a typical "players" iron and the typical "game improvement" iron is much different. That being said, I know there are plenty of sets now that are combos, mixing the muscle and cavity backs. Also, mixing different sets of clubs is never a bad idea, it just doesn't look as nice; but we all know there are no pictures on the scorecard.
  6. I currently play the Titleist 907D2, but I don't find it very forgiving and this is where I give away most of my strokes on the course. I am of the belief that it is the swing, not the club, that often needs to be fixed. However, I want something just a little more forgiving and I don't feel like I am getting that with my current driver. I have yet to actually swing any other drivers and I have had this one for about 2 years. I wanted to come here first and ask for some opinions. Anyone bought anything recently that they can't live without and have played ~15 or 20 rounds with? I know how that "honeymoon" period can be in those first few weeks. Thanks
  7. Try repeating some sort of mantra over and over or sing a song in your head. Basically tempo, like Kilbyman said, is the key to replicating "ranger rick" on the course. "Distracting" myself is what I tell myself I am doing while all I am really doing is not trying to think too much. I try to stay loose and free and not put too much internal pressure on myself when I'm on the course, as most of us do on the range (staying relaxed that is). But we all struggle with it, even the pros. Just try to find something that works for you. It's all mental. If you can hit it on the range you can hit it on the course. Just get that little part between your ears to realize that and play on the same team. Belief/Confidence is also key. You know you can hit the shots, just don't allow yourself to forget that when you're out there.
  8. Unless you are planning on playing in any PGA sanctioned events, I would not want the clubs that conform to the new PGA groove rules. Those rules were made for the pros because they have a distinct advantage by being able to control spin more. I have roughly a 1 handicap and I don't plan on buying clubs that adhere to the new rules because they don't apply to me and I'll take all the help I can get. Other than that, the AP irons look absolutely sweet, 1 and 2.
  9. How do the MX300s feel? I am currently playing Titleist 695MB and have been for a couple of years. I am looking for something a little more forgiving, but I'm nervous about making the switch.
  10. Glove for everything except putting. I have never been able to get the right feel gripping my putter with a glove on. Until a couple years ago I would take it off for shots inside ~40 yards, but I slowly began to forget to remove it and now it is always a part of me away from the green.
