  1. I'm just learning to get a feel for my back swing, and i'm trying to unddrstand whats comfortable. As of right now its the feel of the club rising with my left arm and dropping in one motion. I was doing it before where i lifted it slowly and stopped at the peak, but i feel this will in the end have a negative impact on my swing. So i'm going for a full motion.
  2. Thanks for the great advice, i'm going to use this the next time i'm out on the course.
  3. Thanks, I appreciate it. What do you mean by wrists quiet during backswing? I haven't made an effort to change my weight from my back foot to my front front during the backswing. That might be what is making my back swing feel very awkward. My weight right now is evenly distributed on both feet during the back swing, to be more precise, about 80% on teh balls of my feet, 20% on my heels. I put my full concentration on hitting the ball, therefore my head never goes up till my swing is complete and just naturally goes up. Really i couldn't tell you at what specific point it goes up in the follow thru.
  4. Those fundamentals, grip, stance, alignment, what else is there? I am working on finding out which grip works best, my stance i'm trying to keep doing the same thing every time, and alignment is something i also keep repeating the same thing over and over. I agree with having the non-swing area's ingrained in my head. When at the range i repeat the same thigns for every swing, takes a lot longer to finish the bucket of balls lol. My buddies are usually done a good 15 minutes ahead of me.
  5. I guess i'll learn in time, i'm pretty stubborn when it comes to certain things. And this is something i believe is attainable, I don't even have 1 season, let alone a couple months under my belt, so i have a while to go. Either way i'm loving the game, just wish it wasn't so expensive.
  6. Well, the reason i'm going down this path is becuase there are a million ways to swing. There is no wrong or right way, there might be a method that is used more over another though. While reading up on how to swing, I came accross a thousand different specific tips, relating to this elbow, and that hip. I feel this will all complicate something that in essense is very simple. Why not start with feel? Mind you i'm talking about the swing, and not the setup to where i want to hit, which i have a specific method for. But once that setup is where i want it to be, I just want to be able to swing. From your reactions it looks like i'm chasing a pipedream.
  7. I'm developing my game on a completely feel basis, using gravity and momentum as apose to strength. I'm having a lot of success on the downswing, but i've having a hard time understanding how the feel of a good backswing should be. I'll work my body into understanding which backswing is most comfortable. This is my first season about 4 weeks in, and i'm just wondering if anybody else has gone down this path and what type of results you achieved.
  8. Woters thanks ! That is a fantastic picture, shows me exactly what the sweet spot is, and shows me I was aiming at the wrong spot :( What do the numbers going outward signify? It makes sense to think the sweet spot would change if the clubface is opened for a lob shot right?
  9. When I was at the range yesterday using my pw, it just dawned on me that the golf club face is shaped very awkwardly. An obtuse triangle is what first came to mind, but then looking closer at it, it looks like a right angle triangle. Atleast the grooves are along the lines of a right angle triangle, with the edge cut off. I think the above paragraph has confused me more :P My question is, why does it have such an awkward shape, and where is the sweet spot, and what are the purposes of hitting the non-sweet spots? If it helps to describe, can you stick to lets say the pw or 9i. Also when you open the club face for a lob shot, where has the sweet spot changed to? Any help is appriciated :D
  10. I'm just a beginner but when lining up the ball, i like to aim at the point in which my swing will be at its lowest. When using an iron that would be a little bit in front of the ball, a driver, almost where the tee is. A key part is lining up your shot at an angle, similiar to how the club will hit it at impact. That will give you an idea of where to aim your shot, the hard part I find is trusting your swing and just letting it go to that specific spot.
  11. Just new to this game, and I'm just looking for what you look for when reading a green. When looking at the path, from whatever angle, what are you looking for, the slopes, the shadows, where the water is going down? Or what would you wished somebody told you about greens when you first started !!!
  12. If for a moment, we assume the ball is normal and does nothing to improve/descrease spin. Now I have an approach shot with a perfect lie, if i wanted the ball to stop. Just simply speaking you'd need just enough back spin to stop the ball after contact, since all greens are different there cant be an exact answer to the amount of spin needed. With that in mind what are the mechanics for hitting a loft shot with enough spin to make the ball stop when it hits the ground. The second part of the question is how do you control the spin? What part of the ball are you aiming to hit and how open would you have a 56 degree lofted club? Sorry, for the couple questions, but I'm kinda confused since the first post has been said to not have posted teh correct into.
  13. The hole itself will not move, so after you make up your mind on how you want to the golf ball to travel (this alone takes a lot of thought). That path is set, next step is getting the golf ball down that predetermined path. The only thing left now is for you to hit the ball exactly where you want to, and looking at the ball really helps me do that. I come from a pool playing background, and I'm using similiar logic to play my putts.
  14. I'm just new to the game, but I also use a 10 finger grip. So far so good, but i was thinking of experimenting with other grips to see if they help me feel the swing more. Another similiar thing is that i'm left handed swinging right, so my dominant hand is my left hand. I've only been playig for a couple weeks, but my shots are straight and i'm hessitant to switch but want to becuase the 10 finger seems like bad form. In the end i want the grip to help me feel my swing from top to bottom, and right now the 10 finger is doing that. Going to hit the range in the next couple days to try the other grips.
  15. I work towards enjoying life between the work.
